A Beautiful day at Långtora in Sweden filming Swedish gliders Championship 2018. I wanted a slow tempo in this film. Music from Audionetwork.

Great video. Great sport. Started in 1967. Solo'd at 16 in 1968. Still gliding in 2023.

If I may ask, what was your reason for soaring? Who introduced you to it? What excited you about it? What was your goal for learning?

Another fabulous demonstration of Jesper’s grasp of cinematic techniques. The subject of soaring is a very challenging one to bring to screen; Jesper’s use of longer focal lengths, and superbly stable pans brings a serenity to the scenes, which personify the art of the sailplane. Bravo!

A beautifully edited video. It certainly made me regret not being able to take my gliding to its full potential. I recall flying sailplanes made of wood and fabric, not needing to refer to the airspeed indicator because all I needed to do was to listen to the pitch of the air rushing through the struts and other parts that created lots of drag .I recall my feeling of near panic when I was sent aloft in a Club Libelle for the first time and experienced silent flight and a fear that I would overfly the tow plane. A very slippery experience as we had no dual seat glass machine to practice in and it was like being put into a formula 1 race car for the first time as the controls were very twitchy indeed. All in all,I had quite a few years of gliding in many types of aircraft and enjoyed it immensely. When I see a video as good as this one, I am taken back in time and recall the good times I had flying gliders. Cheers from Downunder🙂

Hello Aussie mate. I'm 52 and just got my Hang 2 rating after 5 months of hang glider training under aerotow. It's been an incredible journey that I love. I really want to lose about 15 more pounds and learn to do this. Seems like the next logical step for me. I love powerless flight and the serenity it gives you. Sorry to hear you're no longer flying, but at least you are one of the rare ones that have. Congrats on a great experience from your beginnings of wood and fabric to the slippery high performance sailplanes. I envy you and hope I can share the same comment you just made some day. God bless you and yours. If you're from down under, what does that make me in America? Up sideways? LOL

What a beautiful film about gliding Jesper. I shared it on my Facebook page. When I was around fourteen years old I was lucky enough to fly over Sweden to look at the Vättern lake from a Bergfalke at Ödestugu, near Jönköping. I can still be found in the sky in my native country of the Netherlands.

Verkligen underbart! Du har definitivt fått dig en ny prenumerant - keep up the good work!

The aeronautical humidity dispersion effect coming off the airframe is always dramatically stunning to watch. As an Air Force veteran it never ceases to amaze me the grace of flight whether F-15's in my day or the glider which landed at my College in 1973.

Good. To stay interested, make sure you start cross-country with an instructor and, once you're ready, by yourself. That's where the real fun is to be had.

Wotta lotta gear. Millions of dollars worth. However, if you live in the UK and vist your local gliding club you can buy a trial flight for about half an hour, in a modern two seater, which includes training from a qualified instructorsnd often a limited membership deal, and have change from £100. Give it a go.

How much does a Swedish glider cost? In USA it's like 80,000 dollars.
