10 years old in 70 ..doing the widest hand on ground turns in Maine. WINTERS AND SUMMERS on skateboards/ surfboards ( summertime) and always all of us saying. You see my bertleman . Do a bertleman Harry. Awesome bertleman Joey. Larry bertleman was a hero to. I'm sure many more than just us kids from frozen northeastern united states ( yes SUMMER was beautiful but water still frigid) long live our king .LARRY BERTLEMAN i bet he had no idea how many he influenced and certainly was never financially compensated.

I saw Larry surf in the world contest at Oceanside Pier in about 1972 or so, I was in junior high. It was a huge south swell on a school day. My mom had my 2 friends come over early, we put our boards in the car to hit the beach after school, but on the way TO school, she drove us instead to the beach. Never forget! Maybe Larry was the father of the shortboard era? GREAT CLIP!

Went to the South Shore in '78 and bought a Glen Minami Town & Country surfboard just like my Hawaiian heros. Paddled out at Kaisers only to have Dane Kealoha and Mark Liddel paddle over and tell me "killer board brah". I just sat there in amazement as they tore it apart! Named my son after Dane....
