Doug, the additional base is an improvement. You are my best teacher of carving. I gave my spare time to rebuilding my forge plans to build myself carving tools, knives gouge, and chisels .Not as many as you have, but hopefully, what I need. I'm carving by mid winter. I know you believe it's practice not just about knives but they have little advantages. My carving got off to a good start thanks mostly to your videos

I'm not, nor ever will be a carver, but I enjoy watching the process and education on how to. I am into crochet, cross stitch etc. I admire your talent and personality. I've been a follower for some time & plan to continue. Do you carve little cabins, houses, or Christmas trees? I have seen you carve the "doors" before. Whatever you carve is worth watching. God bless you and yours, & the merriest of Christmas.

Doug I think that I have an idea for you to carve using a 2 x 2inch block. I was thinking of carving something that I thought of quite a while ago. I was wondering if you could carve a Santa who got stuck in the chimney as in the song ,doing it as a chimney top and Santa's feet sticking out. Tell me would you do it that way and if it would be feasible? I'm an old newbie to carving and very slow at it so things do take a long time. I also have arthritis in my hands so there are long periods when I cannot carve at all especially during the winter. I watch many videos of you and Gene Messer along with others, some of who do have extra long videos. I hope you would carve one to show me how you would do it and to show others too.

Hello Doug. Very nice video. I can’t wait to give it a try. The ASPEN wood you refer too. Would it go by a different name down here in Tennessee? I don’t think we have any Aspen wood here. What is another word species that might work as well? Thank you, Mark

Doug, is there a starter kit on Amazon or somewhere you can recommend? Never done any woodcarving before but If I get started early next year maybe I'll be able to make some nice Christmas decorations for '24. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and an even better New Year. Love from Norway.

Thank you Doug! Quick question, when you cut your own basswood blocks from a larger piece, do you make sure the grain is running in a specific direction? I recently bought a large price of basswood so that I could cut longer 1x1 pieces and then you do a 6" project. lol
