The sticky gunk was supposed to give it a sort of soft-grip, almost velvety sort of feel. These things feel nice new, but inevitably degrade into sticky goo over time, inside the package or not. You can either combat the goo by rubbing talcum powder into it, or take it off by taking it apart and using a strong solvent like turpentine on the pieces covered in goo. Similar goo is also found on some early Thinkpad laptops, Apple Newtons, and some mice.

Actually, in France, the manufacturer Videojet sold a LOT of Conny's Pocket Dream Console (Even a Ninja Turtles console...). But their design was a little bit different, and some of them even got 200 games built into them. Conny even made, in 2009, a console with a touchscreen, called the MI2, known in Europe by the name "PDC Touch", and sold once again by Videojet.

The pinball game is a crappy version of Mario Pinball Land; I was recently playing that game so I recognize the font, the coin design and the font (which Mario Pinball Land got from Mario 64 itself). The Flippers look like they could be direct ripoffs too, but theres not a lot of detail to those to steal haha.

The sticky-ness issue is probably caused by plastic aging. It’s probably the same issue that affects the Gizmondo.
@CinemaSickness8 жыл бұрын
I believe the "sticky" problem is due to the age of the rubbery grip/shock absorbing substance. As a cinema (not game) collector I can speak for the "Juice Box Personal Media Player" that was made between 2004-2005 and unfortunately used a rubbery substance to encase the system. The first one I bought secondhand and I assumed the stickiness was due to dirty kid hands constantly playing with it, but it wasn't until I bought one still in its package that I realized it was getting sticky simply due to the age of the rubber. So chances are The Pocket Dream Console was not sticky to begin with, but over the years became that way.

There is a pretty good reason why Nintendo doesn't ever put any kind of video outputs on their handhelds. Obviously their first portable was the GameBoy. At the time the GameBoy was created it would have been prohibitive to add video out on the GB since it would have taken some special hardware and software to convert the GB's low resolution, dot matrix output to a TV and Nintendo wanted to develop it as cheaply as possible. Then the Super GameBoy came out a few years later and Nintendo realized that instead of adding this feature into their portables for probably no extra money, they could keep the feature absent and then put out a device to play them on a TV through a home console that the user would also need to buy. They did this same thing with the GBA on the GameCube. The dual screens of the DS and 3DS have complicated this, but I assume they would have done it again if it was possible. So basically, they can add video output to the portable for probably no extra money, or they can sell peripherals that also push their home consoles to play portables on TV. Its pretty much a no-brainer.

I do like all the options the DS games on the Wii U VC gives you for the screen placement. There's already a small gap in between the screens on the DS systems so I've got no problem using my Wii U gamepad for the touchscreen & my TV for the top screen since I can use the speakers on the screen where the action is going on & mute the speakers for the screen where nothing is going on.

Why would I want to get this thing in 2006 when the Game Boy Advance was already out for 5 years and still getting great games? If I wanted more games for this I'd be screwed, if I wanted more games for the GBA I'd just go out and buy them... (There's also the flash cart option btw)

in the early 2000's a lot of electronics equipment had a certain kind of rubberized coating that didn't age well, I have a set of speakers that had the same coating, and after a number of years the coating basically mixes so that rather than the inside sticking to the product surface and the outside being sealed, it's all sticky. I found that if careful and with a damp cloth, you can actually wash/scrub away the coating, which sucks since it ends up just being plain plastic underneath, but less sketchy than the grossness of the rubber coating.
