"Is there a face back there?" So metaknight is wearing a mask, and he fights kirby In most iteration of the game when you fight metaknight, he drops a sword for you, and you're meant to fight him in 1 on 1 sword combat as opposed to normal kirby stuff. Whenever you defeat him in a game, you slice his mask apart and reveal completely identical blue looking kirby with yellow eyes. He's surprised for a beat then cloaks his face and whisks himself away. One of the alt colors kirby has in smash is usually a dark blue with yellow eyes

For some context, Kirby Super Star is a game that, instead of featuring one long adventure, features a bunch of smaller adventures, called sub games, one of which is “Revenge of Meta Knight.” In it, Meta Knight takes his flying battleship, the Halberd, and tries to take over Dream Land because its residents are too lazy. The song here in Smash is actually a medley of two of the main Halberd themes from the sub game. This sub game is also the only time in the franchise that explicitly has Meta Knight as the antagonist. While you do fight him in a lot of the games, it’s usually either a test or a spar in lore (or not actually Meta Knight for reasons). This subgame is also where Heavy Lobster comes from, whose theme comes from the game’s remake Super Star Ultra. It’s also worth noting that almost every Meta Knight song from Super Star onward references at least one song from the sub game, whether it’s the Halberd themes in the medley here or one of the other songs in it. Odds are, you’ll be hearing them at some point in the future though. Also Kirby Super Star is part of the SNES collection of games on Nintendo Switch Online, so if the urge ever strikes…
@yubalesquer84953 ай бұрын
If I might add. Meta Knight is like some sort of mentor to Kirby, so most of the times Kirby fights him very close on his way to the final boss, like a test to measure Kirby's strength and skill for the danger that lies ahead. Brawl is the first time they went on with the music, not being limited to 1 or 2 songs per stage, rather a bunch of selected best songs of each series covering both originals (taken straight from the games) or new arrangements. The Halberd itself debuted as a stage in Brawl so a song related to it was expected, but is not always the case. Brawl also had a Story Mode where the Halberd was part of the story, which echoes its appearance in Kirby Super Star (both games were directed by Masahiro Sakurai, what did I expect). Kirby Super Star in my opinion is the basis for modern Kirby games, introducing multiple copy abilities with various attacks, Kirby hats (different looks that Kirby takes for each copy ability), enemy-turn-friend/co-op, mini-games, and being one of the games from which a lot of music is remixed from. PS: I know it is unrelated to this video, but for the food question, Super Star is the game that has the Gourmet Race mini-game and it's exactly what you expect from that title (both a race to the finish line and eating food), also the catchy song.

Another example is "Battle Scene/Final Boss" from Golden Sun 2, which plays in the Norfair stage: it's a hard rock remix of the normal and final battle themes from the original game, and they're delightfully amalgamated. How much nostalgia? Too much lol. Many hangouts back in the day were spent around a TV playing Smash Brawl (and Project M). Also, fun fact: an arrangement of Meta Knight's Revenge by The 8-Bit Big Band won a Grammy in 2022 for "Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella". The song is available on KZbin titled "Meta Knight's Revenge - Fusion Big Band version ft. Button Masher GRAMMY WINNER 2022". Me finding out about that over a year later was part of the reason why I requested the song. So, music in Smash. Most of the music in Smash is remixes and arrangements of existing music but there are a few original tracks like the main themes of each game. The songs are usually tied to the invidual stages and, at least in Smash Ultimate, you can select or deselect songs you want to play on each stage in the menu (a bunch of Kirby songs for a Kirby-themed stage for instance). If you have multiple songs selected for a stage, it'll choose a random one from the selected songs each time you play on that stage. Smash Ultimate takes after its own name in that it's basically the "ultimate" Smash game, especially in terms of music. The game has so many tracks that it's like a library of video game music. The game even has its own music player built in and since it's on the Switch, you can bring it around with you on the go.

The part that plays near the end of Meta Knights Revenge is a motif called "Kirby's triumphant return". I haven't thought about the soundtrack of that game in forever. It was all the rage when I was in the fifth grade and I became the toast of the town for having a copy and the guidebook. My dad was active duty Navy which afforded us a lot of games... Within some amount of time I pretty much never played the game without music and texture packs on thanks to people making that very easily done and applicable with SD cards, I put tons of music I liked into it, from prog rock to other video game songs. I never cared much for the actual in game soundtrack because it was basically the same melody over and over for all menu themes and stuff, and when I was that young I actually wasn't into rock music and thought there was too much rock. It wasn't until I was in 8th grade and beyond that that became my focus and last time I played the game I think was literally into adulthood with music hacks and rock songs were all over the place in it. The games that finally got me into rock were Sonic (especially Sonic Adventure, pretty much my favorite soundtrack for a long time) and F Zero X, especially the guitar arrange for that soundtrack. And Meta Knight was my favorite character in this game. Muhahahahaha Brawl was pretty much my dropping off place with the series. After that I became a high schooler and my brain couldn't handle buying more massive party fighter games with billions of unlockables and secrets and more characters I may or may not know. Gameplay wise though I swear by Melee. GC was my first console, and pretty much the first console we had, got it for my 8th birthday, before that all we had was my sister's GBA which I didnt like. Well, the way Smash music works (at least from Brawl onwards) is that they put in several songs and remixes from each of the franchises in the game. So there are several Mario songs, Pokemon songs, Kirby songs and so on. And there is a special menu called 'My Music' where you can choose which of these songs is played how frequently on the corresponding stages. For example, Meta Knight's Revenge will only ever be played on a Kirby stage, but you can choose if you want to hear it all the time, half of the time or only sometimes (there are percentage sliders for that). It was only back in Smash 64 and Melee where the fighters had only one main song to represent their franchise, so you could say that back then, it was 'their' song in Smash. But ever since they introduced 'My Music' in Brawl, that wasn't the case anymore.

Also I like the idea of having footage for the songs. Yeah might be distracting but is always fun to actually see the epic stuff is happening while the song is ocurring! Nothing going on with Final Destination haha. It's infamous for "blinding" people with how bright it goes at one point. Hurling through space. In Brawl and Smash 4 you could pick songs for the stages but only the songs from the games the stage is from, and original Smash stages used Smash specific songs. It was this way in Ultimate too but then they patched it and let you pick any song for the original Smash stages. More Smash please! You gotta do the themes for all the games.

Interesting that Nobuo Uematsu was hired just to compose this one track for Smash Brawl and turned out to be one of the most beloved themes in the entire series. Super Smash Bros Ultimate has rearrangement of beloved FFVII tracks that you might want to check out as well such as: Opening~Bombing Mission, FFVII Main Theme, Aerith's Theme, and Cosmo Canyon. Cosmo Canyon rearrangement was made by none other than Yoko Shimomura herself. Talk about that synergy!

Fun fact about Smash Bros. Ultimate: counting all the DLC, it has 1068 songs in its soundtrack! It being a celebration of games like you mentioned is really true in all aspects of the game.

Ok so... Meta knight behind the mask basically looks like a blue Kirby with Yellow eyes, yet it is never confirmed if they are truly related in any way, or if it even is the same species. Btw, as someone pointed out, yes, there is Green Greens AGAIN, but also not really. There is another motif that you have encountered which is basically in part green greens, but it is considered its own thing. You have heard it a few time, especially in C-R-O-W-N-E-D and in here. At 13:09/20:11 that motif is called "Kirby's Triumphant Return" and it's from Kirby Super Star but it is recurring in the games., usually in final boss related tracks but not exclusively. I kinda wish you heard the original Kirby tracks here too, but the smash version are also very good

I doubt they're related but they're clearly the same species

Awesome! I also hope you get around to looking at the Melee, smash 4, and ultimate themes as well. Melee's opening cinematic is still so memorable for me :)

Huh, yeah I guess there really hasn't been much Smash. Nostalgia? Oh yes. The main theme for Brawl is still so iconic for me. I loved the Subspace Emissary mode too and played through it with my dad. The cutscenes were awesome. Ultimate is the latest Smash. According to wikipedia the composer for Kirby Super Star was Jun Ishikawa.

One thing about smash and the rest of the series is that the main theme is 100% re occuring thorugh the game and it menus. My favorite is Smash Ultimates Piano Solo. Just something about it hits different. @6:41

18:00 Those are the exact song details as Smash Ultimate lists them. For example, for Banjo-Kazooie tracks (original _and_ arrangements), instead of crediting Grant Kirkhope it says "(c) Rare Ltd." even though for the one arrangement Grant did, they did credit him for it. So: Arrangers got named, original composers did not, except for Toby Fox and the MEGALOVANIA Smash Ultimate arrangement, since he's indie. =P 19:00 And many songs and arrangements from previous Smash Bros. titles get either used 1:1 or slightly touched up for newer entries. And some people doing KZbin reups upload them as coming from Smash Ultimate, anyway.

As you saw in the description, Meta Knight's Revenge is a medley of themes from the mode "Revenge of Meta Knight" from the game Kirby Super Star. Namely, it's a medley of the two themes "Boarding the Halberd" and "Havoc Aboard the Halberd". Speaking of Sakurai, yes, Sakurai was the person who originally created Kirby. However, and somehow this isn't common knowledge, he left HAL Laboratory 20+ years ago and was only responsible for three mainline Kirby games (Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure, and Kirby Super Star) and some spin-offs such as Air Ride. Sakurai took Smash with him (Or rather, Nintendo forced Smash back on him) and Smash has been made by his company Sora Ltd. since Brawl onwards, but Kirby stayed with HAL Laboratory. If anyone has an at least equally valid claim to be 'the Kirby guy' it would be Shinya Kumazaki, who has been the director of Kirby games since 2008, with the mainlines Super Star Ultra, Return to Dream Land, Triple Deluxe, Planet Robobot, Star Allies, Forgotten Land, and Return to Dream Land Deluxe. All the spinoffs since, including Rainbow Curse (Except Battle Royale it seems), are directed by him. If you take a look, of the twelve Kirby songs you've listened to on this channel, EIGHT of them were from Kumazaki games and only two of them were from Sakurai games (Those being Green Greens and Checker Knights). This should speak for itself how influential Kumazaki is on the Kirby series compared to Sakurai, but despite that an unfortunate amount of people think Sakurai is still the one making Kirby games.

If you check out Smash Ultimate besides the main theme on that one, you really need to listen to the Beneath The Mask remix on there. I hope it's been requested some time. That's one of the coolest remixes that the smash composer has arranged.

So you're correct that the motif heard on Final Destination is the same that's heard in the opening tune. This is the motif of Brawl and it gets used all over the game within menus and Smash Bros themed stages (Battlefield and Final Destination) being mixed with many different instruments add musical styles. Here's a list of all the tracks that use the motif: Opening Menu 1 Sticker Album Trophy Gallery Stage Builder Coin Launcher Cruel Brawl Battlefield Battlefield Ver. 2 Final Destination Online Practice Stage Target Smash!! Master Hand Battle (same as Final Destination but with a different start) All Star Rest Area Adventure Map Boss Battle Song 1 Step: The Plain Step: The Cave Step: Subspace Step: Subspace Ver. 2 Step: Subspace Ver. 3 Save Point Tabuu / Boss Battle Song 2 Credits (note there's a small 20 second segment at the end that a lot of music uploads miss, you'll have better luck hearing it by watching a video of the credits itself) Also note that Smash Bros. reuses song names so when you go looking for these songs, you need to specify Brawl in the search. If you want links to the songs, I can add them.

Smash Bros Ultimate I believe has an original song called World of Light. Also, the lyrics for the main theme of Brawl are really good. Final note, I'm interested in your thoughts about the music for the video game "Nikke: Goddess of Victory", specifically 'Red Ash' and 'Overzone'

i like the originakl meta knights revenge over the remix, the new jazzy sound is nice, but the original suits the related situation better. as for the brawl main theme cinematic, it has a bunch of scenes from the brawl story mode spliced in with gameplay, it was the only smash game with a full on cinematic narrative that you could probably find on youtube if you look for it, the gameplay is still the same as always and yes every smash has its own main theme. i do know there is a remix album with a track mixing all the final destination themes up to smash brawl together

Yeah Smash Bros and Kirby were both made by Masahiro Sakurai, although the latter was eventually handed off to another director in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Meta Knight was one of Sakurais creations in the series tho, he was all the way back in the second game in the series. He's kind of an anti hero. Him and Kirby have gotten into fights a lot but most of the time Meta Knight is being controlled by some other force, there's only been a couple times the two of them have had a real grievance with eachother. In general Meta Knight seems to see Kirby as his pupil almost. He can be seen looking after Kirby during vulnerable moments. Meta Knight also craves power, like physical power, he wants to train to become the strongest warrior in the galaxy, and he uses his power to protect Popstar all the time, he's usually the first to notice when a big world event happens. It's also implied that he's the same thing as Kirby. Whenever you defeat him in the games his mask shatters and his face is identical to Kirbys, only with a more stern expression lol. Kirby is most likely the product of a force in the universe known as Void, coming into contact with powerful positive emotions, and reincarnating itself into that emotions image, so if Meta Knight is a product of Void too then maybe Void came across another knight somewhere in the universe who was acting courageously. We don't know for sure though, but given the implication between Kirby and Meta Knight it's possible. In Smash Bros Brawl Meta Knight was infamous, Brawl Meta Knight is debatably the most broken character in the series, but also one of the most fun to use. Insanely large and fast attacks on a character with a small body, amazing recovery, runs circles around most other characters, it's just ridiculous. Because of that, his theme in Brawl is also similarly infamous lol. He was tuned down in Smash 4 but was still pretty great, but in Ultimate he kinda sucks. Btw Mang0 is debatably the best Melee player ever. He's but one of many claims to that title but I mean he's got reason to. He came into the scene really young but now he's one of the oldest top players lol, correct me if I'm wrong but I heard him say recently that he's both the youngest and oldest person to win a major lol. His persona is pretty huge he's definently a shit talker but not super mean from what I've seen.

Man, now I kinda want him to hear Ashley's theme. Both the original, and the Brawl version. Or maybe Kraid's lair from Ultimite. But that should probably be pared with the versions of that theme from NES Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission.

I wish it was the main theme of the series, it's really legendary. I'm not particularly a fan of the other series' main themes (except Super Smash Bros Melee), probably because this one exists.

You like Meta Knight's jazz, right? You HAVE to listen to Meta Knight's theme from Kirby and the Forgotten Land, called Sword of the Surviving Guardian! It is easily one of the best Meta Knight themes to exist.

Meta Knight is one of the most important Kirby characters, starting out as a villain in the older games, but over time becoming more like a rival to Kirby. I’d recommend checking out his bossfight theme in the most recent game, “Sword of the Surviving Guardian”.
@marche8003 ай бұрын
I don't think you can accurately describe Meta Knight as a villain. He's always been more of a mentor type to kirby. He only ever pretends to be the villain. The only exception is Revenge of Meta Knight which is his only role as a villain.
