What hit me watching Brawl again (besides the nostalgia and desire to be a young lad experiencing it again for the first time) is how the background is perfectly timed with the music as it builds or slows down. Amazing work by the developers to make a detail like that stand out all these years later

Never paid too much attention to the stage backgrounds since I was always focused on what was happening on the stage itself and busy fighting my opponents but wow, those effects are just mesmerizing. To think that the platforms at the time were even capable of handling such effects. Melee is unique since it seems like you go from space to being stuck in a digital realm until you travel through a black hole traveling in the speed of light until you find yourself back on Earth and the cycle repeats. In Brawl, it starts as total darkness until you see a shred of light only to realize it’s a galaxy followed by more galaxies as you’re traveling through space until you met upon a beautiful nebula surrounded by clouds. Then you travel through a worm hole following a bright star only to find out it’s the Sun shining over the ocean. I always figured the cycle on this stage was suppose to represent the creation of the Universe. For Wii U/ 3DS, it’s basically the balance between the Sun and the Earth and the opposing forces of fire and water. For Ultimate, same premise but it’s with Light and Darkness. The backgrounds and stage itself is why Final Destination is one of my favorite stages in Smash Bros.

I always liked the FD platform in Smash 4. You can tell that Bandai/Namco helped develop the game because their "Soul Calibur" is showing on that stage.

Melee’s song and platform are my favorite, to me the song fits the best in terms of the fantastical fight between all the characters to see who comes out on top and as well as fighting the gloves during the boss fight and I love the stage just because I think it looks sick. However brawl is so close to taking melees 1st place. Brawl easily has my favorite background and the music variety is so insane. The guitar, piano, and synthesizer are amazing but maybe melee just wins me over with nostalgia as I played much more GameCube than I did wii.

Ultimate’s design of the stage is still really cool. Only problem SSBU FD, is how freakin loud it is. Pretty much all of the brand new original stuff specifically made for ultimate is some of the best stuff in the entire series. New models, reworked animations, brand new animations, sound design, general aesthetic; the game had a lot of heart care and effort put in, it’s just not seen everywhere because of how freaking massive a game it is; they could only spend so much time on every detail.

My list of preference: 1 - Ultimate (Final boss): I like the timing of the music, how beautiful was and represent well the light and dark battle. 2 - Brawl: It doesn't have an original idea, it's kinda basic, but is gorgeous in all parts (that sunset... marvelous) and the music syncs perfectly. 3 - for 3DS: why this have more things happening than the WiiU version? And it is more cooler, still having some similarities like the duality of sun (3DS) and earth (WiiU) but with a different idea, I can feel more in this background than the Wii U version. 4 - Ultimate: I like when the dark realm appears and the music start playing in reverse, also the colors and art in general are so pretty. 5 - for WiiU: The concept is cool, but it's way too short, if it had more tension, or more things happening like the 3DS version, it could be way more in higher position 6 - 64: Yeah, I put that higher than Melee... It has more impact, it's more simple but it delivers the concept of that uknown, abstract place where this puppets start fighting with their "master", and the background get more and more intense with the hand almost defeated, it is cool. 7 - Melee: and finally here, it is a good background/stage design, but is kinda bland compared to the others, it doesn't have much conection, but the music is cool, it sells more about the abstract concept of the game universe and the intense battle there, and I liked the both Main Menu and Credits (Main Theme) from Smash 64 in this music.

Its a great theme. The N64 also had battlefield field. Both stages are in the 1 player mode. I'd also recommend searching the Metal Mario Stage theme too, its quite good.

The Brawl one is by far the best ever. No one Before and after brawl did an Amazing work on the soundtrack and with the background it fits so well. Ultimate is my least with Melee, bc the soundtrack it's just noise and doesn't fit in any sense (Melee cuz it's damn long and no fittin), but I'm upset how the real good one is just on Final Boss, and that one the soundtrack is way Better and fits better with the background.

Ultimate has the worst Final Destination. It doesn't feel climatic. 4 comes in close but the music is JUST intense enough and the visuals carry it above Ultimate. Brawl is number 1 and I gotta say Melee is just above 64
