Super Special Weobley Castle (It's Not Quite A Castle) 😀

A 14th-century fortified manor house on the Gower Peninsula, Wales built between 1304 and 1327 by the de la Bere family.
As with so many castles in this part of the world, Owain Glyndŵr had a bash at destroying it in the early 15th century and although he and his forces did some damage, most of it was left standing. It's thought by some that John de la Bere who died in 1403 was a casualty of Glyndŵr's incursion.

Ah, 'tis the age old mispronunciation by the English tongue. We can only apologise. We filmed this a while ago before we knew better. We are improving though, so we are told. Glad you enjoyed the video otherwise.

I've seen somewhere before that Weobley Castle is classed as a Tower house (which I thought strange) and one of only two in the West Glamorgan area with the other being Oxwich Castle. I must say well done on many Welsh pronunciations. Some improvement needed, but on the whole very good. Your videos are also good as they bring attention to lesser known castles and you make them in a really good professional way. It's a shame more people don't look at this channel. I discovered it via Reddit's castles page and I think this channel not getting much notice on there sadly shows how many on it sadly don't have any real interest in the history of castles, just they rather how a castle looks in a photo... It's a damn shame. Nonetheless I'm very pleased to have found the channel and I appreciate your videos. I'd like to recommend you visit Neath castle in my hometown, but sadly there's not much of it that can be accessed regrettably. Neath Abbey ruins & the small parts of the Roman fort nearby should help make up for that though haha.

Hmmm. Having had a bit of a google I can see why they would consider this to be a Welsh Tower House, as they are described as not particularly large and having up to three storeys above an undercroft. This seems to apply to Weobley. It's a little bit of a stretch. I expect it started smaller and then they added to it. Thanks for the lovely comments. They really do make a difference. We will be starting to get out and about filming more once the coronavirus is well and truly under control but until then we are releasing films we shot last year. Neath Abbey was a place we visited but because it was covered in scaffolding at the time we decided to wait and film it later. Neath Castle is one we must explore. Thanks for the tip. 😀

@@MostlyCastles yes it's a shame about the scaffolding one the Abbey. Hopefully work on the ruins will finish in the next year or so so that you may have an opportunity to make a video on the amazing site. As most of Neath Castle is sadly not open to the public most of the time, it might be worth getting in touch with the council to see if they'll grant you access to more than just the area in front of the gatehouse, but nonetheless it's still worth a visit. I look forward to your future videos 👍

What's most annoying about the scaffolding is that we stopped in on our way to somewhere else to scout out where it was the week before we planned to film and there was no scaffolding. If only we had stopped to film there and then it would have been splendid, but no. Ah well. We will definitely give the council a call before we visit the castle. Thanks for the tip. It will make it so much more interesting if we can reach the parts that other filmmakers can't. 😀
