It took me like 100 attempts before I managed to beat the game's true ending. About 50 percent of those deaths were in the mines

@@i00Face respects)) and what strange about this game, is that it's not actually that hard if you know how to deal with every creature, situations, traps. I think it's just that you can't allow yourself to be too cocky and be careful but fast. I kinda lose it after 5 good tries, so I dunno.

I've been playing this game since it came out and I still find out things I didn't know about. The lanterns thing was really embarrassing, because in my mind, they were windows; You know, 100s of meters below the surface.

I love it. Personally, I've sunk 300+ hours into it. It won't hold your hand which I love because there are very few games these days that are difficult and fun at the same time. I think too many games suffer from design balance by trying to scale to different levels, but Spelunky is great because it's just one hard difficulty that makes your goal simple. Beating Yama was my proudest achievement in gaming, definitely more so than beating DS1. It is a game that will test your patience, but man when it clicks you will have a hard time playing other rougelikes after

One rouge-like that I feel doesn't get enough attention is a little game called Galak-Z. It's a twin stick space shooter with an 80's anime ascetic (like, heavily inspired by the original Robotech/Macross). Sadly, I've yet to actually ever beat it, but I can't help myself but gravitate back to it every now and again.

I love the genre rogue like/lights and few I play and can recommend is, dead cells, hades, children of morta, one step from eden, one way heroics, enter the gungeon. If you like card based, neoverse ( has waifus) or a bit more challenging slay the spire, and finally some still in development or could use some polish, but not too bad are tower hunter:erza’s trail, risk of rain 2 and neverinth. Great genre and nicely done on your run indeimaus I still need to go back and play spelunky again.

Not a rogue-like, but have you ever heard of Furi? It's a "boss battler," not sure on the actual genre name, like Shadow of the Colossus. You don't even have to traverse the world like in Shadow, so that was always a plus for me.
