Cut the boots! Cut the boots! Cut the boots!
@joshgonzalez2885Ай бұрын
Would be interesting to cut these in half just because I feel like usually when I see these styles of “cushy” boots dress wear, they’re usually terrible quality. Like some Cole Haan Nordstrom rack quality. I know these styles are super popular with business execs though

I had the same thing happened with running shoes once I went with a wide toe box. I hate going narrow. It sucks on trails.

Cut in half! I own 4 pairs of Sam Hubbards. Love how comfortable they are. I’d like to see how they are made inside.

I’ve had a pair of the Founder shoes for about 10 years. I bought them when I was working in on office environment, now with WFH I they are my Sunday shoes and for when I want to look a little more put together. They have really held up well and are some of the most comfortable shoes I own. Recently picked up a pair of the fashion sneakers and I’m sure those will be just as comfortable once they are more broken in.

Had 3 pair of Samuel Hubbard. Good quality, very comfortable. They never seemed to relax or wear in. Not sure how to describe it other than, you know how some leather footwear gets broken in and starts to look better with age? The lines in the leather form etc. Not talking about break in from a comfort perspective, but looks wise. My SH shoes all looked about the same a year later as they did the day they came out of the box. Not the worst thing you can say about a shoe really. In a nutshell, there shoes are a lot like the middle school kid who wore a tie everyday. Smart, nice guy but a little stand offish and afraid to get his hands dirty.

Footwear doesn't have to look terrible to be comfortable, the outsoles may be cushy and comfortable but there's no reason they couldn't look properly traditional and not ugly.

I’d recommended this brand to you for cutting in half years ago. Thank you for reviewing the Samuel Hubbards. Yes, I’d like to see what’s inside, even though I can no longer afford to own this brand of footwear.

I own two pairs of their dress shoes and one pair of "boat shoes". These are all super comfortable, and have good arch support. They needed no break-in period. Because of the soles, they aren't quite as "dressy" but they feel as good on the feet as, say, a running shoe. Also, they have a neat "trade-up" program in which you can donate an older pair of shoes (locally) and they give you $50 off a new pair. I think they are very well made for the price. Both of my dress shoes get plenty of wear and still look brand new. I haven't seen their line of boots. I own two pair of Nick's boots and there is zero chance they are made as well as a $700 pair of Nicks, but they are about 1/3 the price of a solid pair of Nicks. I would guess they are comfortable and of above-average quality, like the rest of their lineup. I'd love to see one of these cut open. We will certainly see where they cut corners to keep costs down (these aren't made with 7-8oz leathers!) but I will bet they compare pretty well to other boots in that price range.

I own a pair of their Hubbard Free Oxford. I got a super price on them. And, you are right, they are all about comfort. They feel real soft on the foot. I thought they might be a little more thicker, but they are real thin. I don't know If I would pay full price. But, if they are on sale, it's a decent value. I would like to see the Chukka's cut apart.

5:22 the bead on the end of a knife can help if the handle is too short, it gives your pinky finger something to grasp. It can also just make it easier to fish out of your pocket. Otherwise, I think they’re just cool lookin.

To me this brand seems to run narrow. This is the only brand I had to size up to a wide width. They're nice shoes but I don't find myself reaching for them very often. Something about the insole in one shoe makes a bit of a farting noise too.

Cut them. Bit of trivia: The brand is named after a 19th century US postmaster general and US Rep from CT.
@Keen_EdgeАй бұрын
5:21 Thats just a machined lanyard bead. Typically theyre used on a lanyard like it is there to make it easier to get the knife out of your pocket. That way you can ham-fistedly grab the bead instead of making a conscious effort to grab the knife itself. However, the pocket knife hobby continues to move further and further into the "pocket jewlery" line of EDC so calling it a charm really isnt that far off.

I don’t know about Samuel Hubbard’s shoes. I had the Hubbard Free oxfords and they were not what Samuel Hubbard advertised. They were supposed to be comfortable and have an orthopedic quality, but they were never comfortable. The footbed was synthetic and way too hard. The model was positioned as like their central product, their best value shoe, but it never held up. It never was a pleasure to go for walks in them. They did fit, they were light, the uppers and lining were high quality, I’ll give them that, but the wide size was too wide for my EE foot. I ended up giving mine away, and I’ll avoid purchasing Samual Hubbard going forward. Italy’s Astorflex produces shoes that are not too different than Samuel Hubbard in terms of casualness, and at similar prices, but Astorflex offers far better craftsmanship and fit. For boots along the lines of the Samuel Hubbard’s pair you showed us, I’d recommend spending another hundred or so and going with Parkhurst, Red Wing, Grant Stone or Allen Edmonds, not necessarily in that order. When on sale those brands may not be more than Samuel Hubbard. I wouldn’t waste my money again.
