Hello and thank you for asking. Yes you double everything in the recipe otherwise the ingredients will be too dry and won't form well. Have fun making these and be careful with the menthol crystals. 😊

This is exactly the recipe I use, except I usually omit the P80. The clay really pulled it together for me! I'm super limited on space so they get hand mixed, but I love the idea if using the hand mixer. I've recently heard of master-batching menthol crystals, and I think I'm going to try it. That's the part I usually dread, my hands tend to go numb if I'm making a big batch. I'm curious, who do you get crystals from? I'm in MA, so kinda close, and I'm looking for a good supplier. And I love using the crafters choice EOs. Great videos!

Hi, I came across your video by accident, but I ended up watching almost all your videos in one night! It's addictive 😂 I plan on trying the shower steamers as xmas gifts for my family this year.. but I have a few questions: 1) instead of kaolin clay, is there an alternative? Like corn starch or cream of tartar? Do you think I can substitute the kaolin for one of them (or even a combo of the 2)? I won't be making enough to justify buying a bag so that's why I'm asking. 2) I was interested in the coffee steamer but noticed you have no video of you making it, just you decorating it. Is there a video I missed? If so, can you share the link? 3) what are your thoughts on making a holiday themed shower steamer? Like pine forest or pine scent. What did you think? Thank you again 🙏 and looking forward to your thoughts & comments. Keep up the great work 👍😍

Thank you so much for watching and positive feedback. It's always welcomed because I really do want to teach others on how to make skin products either for their business or at home use. 1. I have not tried to substitute kaolin clay, but cream of tarter would make it hard because I use that in my bath bombs. I haven't tried corn starch, but if you do let me know. I'll try it and make a video next year on using substitutes for kaolin clay. 2. A combo of the two kaolin and/or corn starch/cream of tartar would be fine. 3. No you didn't miss the video. Sorry, I have plans on making the coffee shower steamer video too. It's hectic right now with the Christmas season and the new Retail shop opening this year. I do have that in my plans to make a video on that too. ☕ 4. Yes I love it for the pine scent/pine forest. I'm working on making one with a Christmas tree Cada mold (on working on the recipe) using Windsong fragrance oil and balsam fir needle. This would be an excellent holiday/Christmas season scent, so uplifting and outdoorsy. Love it! 😍

I live in PA and it tends to be humid. I made these today and some of my steamer, which are still in the molds, have started to fizz. What did I do wrong and how do I fix in the future?
@VermontLavender
@VermontLavender Жыл бұрын
There maybe two issues. But it sounds like the first one. 1. It sounds like there maybe too much of the wet ingredients. This will cause the fizz reaction because the citric acid and baking soda are starting the reaction process. Reduce the amount of liquids. 2. I live in VT and it's humid here too. You're humidity maybe too high if it's over 40%. If it's a rainy day - choose another dry sunny day to make them. Use a dehumidifier and that will help a lot. 🙂

Thanks for doing this video. Newbie to shower steamers, how does the citrc acid, water and baking soda not react to each other here? Thanks!

Thanks for asking. It's the order of the ingredients and how they are added. Always add the citric acid last. I don't add water in this recipe here, but I have other shower steamers I'm making using 3D molds. I'm experimenting in adding some water with the baking soda. I'll have a video on that later. The menthol crystals and the rubbing alcohol are in the Mason jar together. Then this jar is placed into a warm water bath to help dissolve the menthol crystals faster. You shake every once in awhile. Thank you for asking and hope this helps. Diane :)

Does the clay affect the plumbing?
@VermontLavender
@VermontLavender 9 ай бұрын
Kaolin clay is a gentle light clay. I have not had any problems as there is very little clay in the shower steamer. If you're concerned you could leave this out and add a little bit more baking soda. Or add cream of tartar as another cake like hardener. It really helps to harden the steamer and make it last longer. 😊

I tried the same recipe, it came out dry and cracked? What should I do?
@VermontLavender
@VermontLavender 7 ай бұрын
So it depends where you live because humidity makes a difference. I live in New England - Vermont USA. So, it's more humid here. I would try adding a little more rubbing alcohol to improve the moisture content. Plus make sure to do the squeeze test before molding. Watch the video again for reference and that'll help. The humidity air level should be between 40-50%. Thanks for watching and subscribing. 😊

I have just increased the humidity around them and they have bubbles and lots of white things over them! What do you think
@VermontLavender
@VermontLavender 7 ай бұрын
There might be too much moisture. They're just reacting to the humidity so they may continue to react, but just let them be. Let them dry overnight. They are fine to use, but maybe not to sell if that's your goal. Next time have less moisture in the air. Sometimes it's a trial and error as this is how it was for me too. It may take a few times to perfect it for your climate and region. Thanks! 😊

Wish you had a simple list of what's needed, what's optional, and what is "super strong", the menthol smell or the tablet? Is menthol oil natural or synthetic? Is there a way to use different oils that don't come mixed-in but in droplets. I had to rewind the video to the beginning a few times just to get what's what. It's a waste of time just to watch you sifting baking soda. Can it be speed up?? Just expressed my frustration.

Hello Elena, The "Menthol Crystals are colorless prismatic crystals derived from steam distilled peppermint oil" end quote - purchased from Wholesale Supplies Plus company. In my description of this video I have a pdf download that's a Free Recipe. It's a basic recipe I use for all my steamers with a few adjustments. The scent is what's strong. You can adjust the recipe if needed just make sure it all equals the same amount of liquids. I buy my items in bulk because I have a skin care business and I sell online and have a retail /manufacturing shop. Thank you for your questions. I hope this helps you in your journey in making shower steamers. Your feedback will help me make better videos next time. Thanks again, Diane :)
