What a surprise! Another shop stop! And now that’s theee shops you helped me learn about that I’ve never heard of before. I assumed you were already heading home. I also never heard of Krutz Guitars. What a nice guitar that is! I was expecting the guy to say it would be double the price at least. That’s really nice for $699. When you get home, maybe we can research this company a bit further so we can learn more about them. Does it have a pickup? Even without it, that’s a steal. That black guitar is not really carbon fiber material. Carbon fiber material is a type of composite, but it’s not necessarily true the other way around - not every composite is carbon fiber material. That guitar you saw is actually more plastic than CF. It’s plastic resin mixed with ground up powdered CF material made from scraps, so it is not made from fully bidirectional CF material. Just like wood, it’s easy to tell if you know what to look for - if it was true carbon fiber, you’d see the woven material inside and out without nothing smooth. These smooth looking guitars are made of ground up CF material mixed into plastic resin to make the plastic firmer (and you have to be careful because some companies try to hide it with a CF looking veneer on the top/back/sides). People need to learn more about what composite really means and the types of composite that is best for guitars. That said, when you consider that you can get a KLOS made of legit bidirectional CF material for around the same price or a bit more as that black guitar’s used price, the black guitar becomes overpriced. Incidentally, the black guitar is made of a similar material as that Lava guitar. Let that sink in for a moment. I don’t say it’s a bad guitar at all, but lots of people think that composite guitars are all built like tanks when in fact most are extremely delicate. These plastic guitars mixed with ground CF material are very susceptible to cracking and shattering with very little effort. The Agufish KZbin channel shows an example of how badly the top shattered in shipping (kzbin.info/www/bejne/goa0gGCBZcmNr7M - look about halfway through at the 10:25 mark) - and I’ve seen other examples too from a variety of brands using similar composite materials from Journey, Lava, Enya, Rainsong, etc. This sort of damage would never happen with a truly bidirectional CF guitar. So yes, these plastic resin guitars will resist humidity changes well if they are cared for properly (more on that below), but one wrong bump or drop, and the guitar will be garbage because they can’t be repaired. That first guitar sounds nice tonally, but when you start to consider that they can’t be repaired and they’re not as strong as the companies want you to think, it makes them too much of a risk to buy. If you’re looking to spend more than $800 to $1000, you can get a KLOS that’s made of legit 100% bonafide bidirectional CF material for around the same price as that first black guitar (depending on the model, as well as whether you buy used, b stock, or get the best deal via their kickstarters for new models). I would not recommend these plastic composite guitars if you have kids, pets, tend to drop things, or for traveling unless you’re okay with the possibility of cracking, shattering, or warping with little effort. Not trying to rant, but I am hoping this will inspire shops and buyers to learn the difference between the types of composite and how to educate the customer. I implore everyone to learn more about how these guitar are made. If you’re looking to buy a travel guitar or a tank, you need a bidirectional CF guitar so there won’t be a potentially irreparable accident. KLOS is the most attainable brand that I know of which offers true bidirectional CF guitars. They are still a lot of money for many people, but I’ve seen some models used for up to half of the retail price and in great condition. Unless it’s a budget price you’re paying, I wouldn’t recommend anything that looks smooth (which is the plastic resin mixed with powdered CF) or says unidirectional CF material (which can still break depending on how the instrument is damaged because it is molecularly weaker than bidirectional CF material weave). If you’re buying the plastic resin composite guitars, keep it at home where it can’t be dropped or knocked against something and away from heaters in the winter and direct sunlight. So many people have reported long term warping after leaving it in cars and near heaters/windows - it’s mostly plastic, folks, so use common sense with that in mind. It’ll eventually weaken with time if you expose it to excessive heat/sun and aren’t gentle with it. In some cases, you might be better off just buying a strong maple guitar or another wood that doesn’t shrink/move much - you may end up getting much better quality guitar that won’t likely break and can be repaired. 😊 Hope this quick primer helps someone out there. The same way we all learn about our tone woods and which ones are stronger and more resonant, as well as how to ID a laminated guitar, we all need to learn more about these alternative materials that are becoming more common, along with the pluses and minuses of them. Okay, enough about that! Thanks for showing us another shop with some neat guitars - we really should check out the Krutz brand!

So interesting thanks for sharing 😀The company Composite Acoustics is now owned by Peavy (this one is used guitar made in the USA might be pre peavy) the fit and playing feel was excellent. These are made of a variation of carbon fiber composites the top is a carbon fiber graphite weave. I liked the guitar and would have like to hear it plugged in. I have a feeling that’s where it would really shine. It felt like it was built like a tank 🤣 unlike the lava me (that one felt like a plastic toy) I thought the CA sounded better than the McPherson Sable I played at Palens a few days back. Always enjoy hearing from you! Hope you are doing well And thank you again for the very informative subject ❤️

I still don’t have a conclusive feel for the company. Need to play some others. Thanks❤️
@nickpearsonuk28 күн бұрын
Zager import guitars from Asia, rebadge and make adjustments including too wide a string spacing for the neck. What I really disapprove of is pretending these guitars are made in the USA. You can buy similar guitars at a much lower price and get them set up by a good tech or luthier. Eastman make a much superior guitar and are open about being made in China. I wonder if the seemingly thick soundboard on the Eastman is down to a reinforcement patch behind the sound-hole and rosette. Lowden do the same thing at a whole other price range giving the impression the soundboard is twice as thick as it should be. I’ve used the same approach on some of my classical builds where the rosette would risk breaking through the back of the top.
@guitarnotions28 күн бұрын
@@nickpearsonuk that’s interesting about the top thickness. I was alway under the impression less is better. Seeing the thickness always made me wonder if the wood was not quality and it was thick to add to the top strength rather than planned down to .100” or so to allow for vibration. Thanks for sharing 😀
@nickpearsonuk28 күн бұрын
The Red Label Yamaha sounded particularly good. Yamaha make great guitars at all price points with the high end Japanese built guitars competing with some of the very best from Europe and the USA. Now if they changed the pickguard shape or left them off for the buyer to decide…

🤣 to be honest I liked all the guitars I played! they were all setup nice. They all played well too. It really come down to preference rather than one being good or bad. Different players will have a style that will create variations in the tone. They may prefer something I would never consider. I won’t trash a companies guitar unless it is grossly manufactured. Some guitars are made with cheaper materials but the price is adjusted for that. If I were to play one of those $10,000 Taylor’s I played at Palen in Springfield there would be no comparison the Taylor would win hands down, or the $6000 Santa Cruz at acoustic Music in Salt Lake… but then you get what you pay for. I also have to mention the Furch Baritone at Acoustic Shoppe (on my list). today I played affordable guitars at Gottschalk, I loved the instruments and I especially loved the staff. They were exceptional!! The Lava Me guitar with the bright colors made me chuckle, but it did play (it was used at around 300 if I remember right) I did buy a guitar and will share it in my next video.
