Thanos couldn't just do the snap since that movie wasn't out before this particular animation, so the creators were unaware of that at the time. Each episode takes an entire year to do.

The first 3 guys Thanos zapped were Indiana Jones characters (1, 3 and 4 respectfully. And the guy who ripped out that heart was from #2) Second, the witch with green skin is the "Wicked Witch of the West" from the 1930s movie version of "Wizard of Oz"
