Actually immigration isn't my top Brexit issue:- - I want EU laws and regulations removed. - I want us to stop paying into the EU. - I want the EU negotiated international trade deals to be reviewed and I want Liz Truss's agreements to be made public. - I want to focus on developing nuclear, hydrogen and cleaner fossil fuels and self sustainable energy. - I want farmers to be incentivised to produce food again. - and I want there to be a study of who is fishing in our waters and then new regulations put in place. .... but that said I am alarmed by the numbers of people being caught crossing to the UK because it's clear that when it was easier to come the numbers were higher each year and were clearly undercounted. I've always added 10m to the number stated living in the UK and maybe I should've been adding 20m to population figures.

What I don’t get is how we don’t seem to know exactly who is here. Every legal immigrant gets in with a passport, checked at border control and logged on flight records and scanned by border computers. Visas have to be applied for and agreed. They are valid for x years so surely if someone doesn’t leave by a certain date this should be flagged by the system as not having gone through passport control at a point of exit?? I don’t get how we don’t have EXACT numbers, names, dates and exits. When I go on holiday I have to jump through so many electronic hoops it’s ridiculous - how is it millions of people get visas to not just visit but LIVE and WORK her and we just guess by polls in airport queues? WTF??

I applaud your sense of optimism but unfortunately I'm not sure it's entirely justified. Reality check, Britain's economy is flat lining and has been doing so for some time now, no doubt a deep recession awaits us. Inflation is running extremely high and the economy has become intolerant to higher interest rates that are needed counter inflation. 12 years of zero rates and a trillion spent on quantitative easing has taken it's toll. Despite this the Government continues to run large budget deficits well in excess of £100 billion each year compounding the country's enormous debt pile (£3 trillion), which is becoming ever more difficult to service. Germany on the other hand is a hugely wealthy country with a massive trade surplus with the rest of the World which just happens to be experiencing a recession at the current time. I think we have aways to go before we start blowing our trumpet too hard.
