If you look up a walkthrough of this game you’ll see just how ridiculous a completion run of it is. The whole game is planned out to the second with no room for error or delay. You end up watching maybe 30 seconds of the FMV and most of that time is the climax

This history of this game is fascinating. Originally the bad guys were supposed to be ninjas, but the creators were told they had to change it. Other things happened too. It became a game far from where the creators wanted it. They talk about it on the Netflix show "The Video Games that Made Us." I think that is the title,

I actually completed this game last summer, during lockdown. There's definitely a learning curve. It's pretty much as Alex described, it's super dumb, but oddly engaging, and I enjoyed it. A couple of tips that weren't mentioned in the video: the story is about half an hour long, but there are a couple of checkpoints, you guys actually almost hit the first one, it's shortly after the song. There's no RNG for the enemy placement and timing, so it's totally possible to memorize it (and necessary if you're going for 100%). It's gonna take several playthroughs to actually make any sense of the story, since you can't really follow the story and catch baddies at the same time.
@Revegelance3 жыл бұрын
Oh, and if this game is too easy for ya, check out the spiritual successor, Double Switch. Similar gameplay, but more complicated, and there is some randomness to the timing, which makes it way harder. Double Switch has you trapping mobsters who are sneaking around this Egyptian themed apartment building, looking for treasure. There are multiple traps in each room, which must be triggered separately, and you actually have to pre-arm them before triggering. It's way harder than Night Trap, but the story is better.
@CthulhuianBunny3 жыл бұрын
Does that mean it's possible to memorize when the code changes and to what?
@LordPichuPal3 жыл бұрын
@@CthulhuianBunny Yeah, you can. The code changes are all fixed, based on what I remember from the Game Grumps playthrough. Basically everything is timed and will always happen at the exact same time in each attempt, the hard part is just keeping track of everything and knowing when to switch to what room. There's certain moments within the story where one of the people will come to the camera and be like "I changed the security code to this color" and if you aren't watching them when they say that, you just have to take a shot in the dark what it is if you don't know it. So can either learn everything down to the second, or try and follow a guide while you play it (since you can pause it).
@Revegelance3 жыл бұрын
@@CthulhuianBunny The timing of the code changes is fixed, as is the location that the characters will talk about it. The color itself is random, though. On one playthrough, they might change it to Yellow, on another it might be Red. Knowing where and when to look is key.

Game Grumps did a legendary run of Night Trap. Dan had a walkthrough with time stamps for when/where to trap all the trashmen and hear code color changes, Arin was at the controller. Both were boppin to that killer theme tune bit. Would recommend a similar set up if in the future you guys are interested in playing more. The game is old school unforgiving, so even with a wingman with the walkthrough, probably would have to do multiple attempts. But if you want to enjoy the goofy teen sleepover and the villains' story, need multiple runs anyway. Can't catch all the story either if you try to 100% the trashmen.

It was really fun seeing & learning about this on High Score. Kinda funny that they weren't even allowed to have vampires on screen (it being a game and not a film where ratings are different, I believe), so went with evil ninjas with blood extraction needle guns, and just about passed. Still caused a moral panic anyway 😆 It's amazing how the original Dev ever got the funding for this (on the count of ut being very ambitious for the time & pretty goofy), and yet it's a classic.

I mean it's funny looking back and seeing this is the thing that started the ESRB. I mean it's a total scapegoat and they could have argued getting an age rating system for games easily given how everything else already had one without using this as an example. The way the game is set up you don't even get to see 90% of what barely happens.

If you all pick up the gog version of D ever, check the forums as the GOG version's has some weird interlacing on the fmvs, and a cool fan removed all of it so it's a clearer picture.
