The amount of posters of F40 (and the 959) adorning walls, would be more than the amount of Corollas Toyota manufactured.

Still my dream car after 3 decades. I saw them battle it out against the McLaren F1 when the BPR series visited my country in the mid 90ies and they held their own pretty well.

Ruairidh, when you're talking about the F40-LM, you're showing the 288 GTO-Evo
@DiRF2 жыл бұрын
As much as I love your vids, I think you got yourself a bit mixed-up when you first started discussing the F40 LM. The car you were showing footage of was the 288 GTO Evoluzione, which you only briefly mentioned earlier in the video. The 288 GTO Evoluzione, itself, is perhaps far more important to the creation of the F40 than you give it credit for. The F40 wasn't just a "successor" of the 288 GTO, it was a direct descendant of the 288 GTO Evoluzione, sharing much in common with it.

The Evo is an absolute monster. I saw the only (at the time) functioning car at Spa a decade or so ago on a track day, and it was glorious

Next to my house lived a guy with two Porsche 959 one Ferrari F40 a Aston Martin Zagato and a Mercedes 600 a Gullwing and a few other fun cars. The garage had a wall of mirrors and crystal chandeliers. This was around 1988 so some of these cars where almost brand new.

1100kg must be dry weight, manual states 1235kg and an owner weighed his at 1240kg. Apparently US spec cars were heavier still.

The first footage of the f40 LM isn’t the F40 LM😬 it looks like the 308 GT/m from the mid 80s

It's more generally the full blown prototype for the F40. Too bad the full specs wasn't translated to the regular F40 cause that would give 1990s and even 2000s supercars run for it's money. 650 HP, 0-60, and 230 mph top speed. All Est. Easy would of been difficult to dethrone although Ferrari F50 would of needed one hell of up game which hi 240 mph might be in order. Might make the McLaren F1 even less impressive.

I just found your channel. Watched a few videos already and I think you're doing a great job. I especially like you covering all sorts of transportation, focus on what were the original intentions for them and what made them important or revolutionary. Are you open to suggestions? If so, may I recommend a special 3 wheeler series of episodes? I've seen your Reliant video but there are quite a few others like the Mazda T150U or the Bogward Goliath.

So Ironic that cars built to be the ultimate driving machine are destined to sit in collections and private garages never to be driven, most of them still close to being on factory delivered mileage... What a waste... I don't want to see one sat in a museum I want to see it being thrashed round a track

Maybe it's because I was born in 81' (These cars came out during my formative years) but the F-40 is the last great looking flagship Ferrari.

The F50 hits too IMO, although the 40 is a better car in most respects. (edit: I, too, was born in '81)

You mean Behr intercoolers, for the turbos you mentioned. Why would a car with no air conditioning refrigerate anything when ambient air temp is colder that required to bring that manifold temp down.

Technically the 348 was the last Ferrari approved by Enzo, the F40 was the last to be presented while he was still alive. By the way I highly recommend the video of Laffite thrashing a F40 LM around Mas du Clos

Great video, I think the F40 did come with air conditioning, but with no radio? The F50 by all accounts sounds better and is more of a race car, but doesn't have the looks of the F40. Personally I'd be happy with its predecessor the 288gto, that car looked more road going and looked even better (to me).
