“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” I've always read it like a meta message to the reader. Because when you're reading the book and imagine all the things that you are reading, the story is literally happenning in your head! And it's nice to think that it all exist somehow, all aventures, all characters and places, are for a brief moment real, in a certain way. It's like reading is a real-life magic that can create worlds!

'Some say he died ... codswallop in my opinion. Don't think he had enough human left in him to die' Is such an underrated line by Hagrid. he literally predicted the horcruxes; Voldemort didn't have all of his soul left in him so he couldn't die. Even before we knew all the details from later books, that line stood out to me from the first time I read it. It's rather heartwarming, really. It was from that moment that Dumbledore knew that there was a way to save Harry's life and still ensure that Voldemort could be defeated. Up until then, he really did feel like he was "raising him like a pig for slaughter." I can just imagine him hearing Grindlewald's voice in his head all the way up to that point, "For the greater good."
@JitteryJackanape

It has to be Dumbledore's gleam of triumph in the eye. “For a fleeting instant, Harry thought he saw a gleam of something like triumph in Dumbledore's eyes. But next second, Harry was sure he had imagined it, for when Dumbledore had returned to his seat behind the desk, he looked as old and weary as Harry had ever seen him.” Now if we are talking quotes specifically it has to be " Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory" Cedric was not a good or bad person he was an innocent person murdered by voldemort. Its the turning point of the franchise. And Dumbledore is saying this knowing the ministry will essentially crucify his and harrys reputation for it. It does not matter. Do what is right, not easy.

I think Harry knowing that he won't die would not affect it, but as mentioned in the book, when Harry does the big reveal speech in the final duel he says that by meaning to die he also cast sacrificial protection on Hogwarts (as seen by the fact that after that no "good guy" dies, and Voldemorts Curses have no lasting effect). This most likely would not have happened if he knew he wouldn't die, so not telling Harry was actually not just for Harrys best, but instead for entire Hogwarts best.

⚠️ Off topic from video day 3 of asking for what ifs⚠️ What if Dudley went to Hogwarts? What if Aang died with the other air nomads and one of the other characters eventually became the avatar? I think the most interesting would be Sokka and Zuko. What if Prim became the Mockingjay? The only way I see this happening is if Katniss gets caught hunting and either gets killed or sent to the Capital and becomes an avox a year or two before Prims game.

This is amazing foreshadowing and I didn't understand its significance even after multiple readings/Jim Dale narrations. My favorite line personally, though I can't remember if it is in the book or just the movie, but it is "it does not do, to dwell on dreams and forget to live."

@SuperCarlinBrothers Can owls see through poly juice potion? If you had addressed a letter to mad eye Moody in book 4, would it go to Barty Crouch? Or the chest? If the chest, why doesn’t the ministry of magic use owls as poly juice detection?
@riluna3695
@riluna3695 14 күн бұрын
I had a similar realization a while back. While he's on the run, Sirius tells Harry just to send a letter by owl, and the owl will find him. Despite having just said that he's hiding somewhere so sneaky the Dementors will NEVER find him. So I was just imagining Fudge casually writing a letter to Sirius, sending it off on a random owl, and then tracking that owl as it finds him for them. Then when he gets there he realizes that Sirius managed to trick the owl by having it send the letter to a random black dog instead of to Sirius :P

Perhaps it wasn't intentional? I know it usually happens with younger children, but what if Voldemort was so furious at being denied the position, his magic got the better of him and he placed the curse by accident. He did have other things on his mind after all, like getting up to the 7th floor and hiding Ravenclaw's diadem in the room of requirement.

Hey, SuperCarlinBrothers! Have you ever thought about doing a video or a few on the books of Cressida Cowell? She wrote such books as How To Train Your Dragon and The Wizards Of Once, etc. and there are a remarkable amount of similarities between her stuff and Harry Potter even though it's still so different. It just seems right up yous's ally to me! PS.: The writings of Sir Terry Pratchett are literally THE BEST by the way. But since the feel is so different I didn't immediately think about it. But it's SO GOOD. I think yous'll love it just the same. GNU Terry Pratchett. Speak his name.

I remember reading this at like 15 and thinking OH MY GOD WHAT IF DUMBLEDORE IS SECRETLY EVIL/ON VOLDY'S SIDE!!!!! I'm like that's why everyone trusts snape "just cos dumbledore says" but doesn't actually have their own reason to trust snape. I was like OH NO WIZARD GRANDPA. I mean dumbledore certainly made a myriad of mistakes but I'm so glad I was wrong. I'm sitting there like WHAT DO YOU MEAN TRIUMPH?!?!?!? honestly the one that has always stayed with me is "when you have to make a choice between what is right, and what is easy..." and because it's important to me that people remember the level of sass harry has "wow, i wonder what it's like to have a difficult life"

😂Oh my god, thank you for sharing this! I know: Dumbledore has some moments where his dark-side can show a bit. Obviously this was not actually an example of it, but when you didn't know everything, it could feel a little bit uncertain at times, and even _after_ you knew everything, it was like, "Okay, so...he was a little bit cold and calculating at times, but it was clear that he did have a heart, and in the end he was a massive force for good." Definitely a complex and interesting person.

Loved your video as always. I have a small request (I know it will be buried in 1000s of comments), if you could use the book interpretation of Voldemort's death (13:59) I know that here at SCB you are true to books but this scene always pops up in videos and it is the farthest one can go from the book ending of Tom Riddle ,who died like a mortal with a body. Once again thanks for everything you do for the community with all your amazing content especially the podcast.

Agreed: gleam of triumph is excellent. I couldn't make sense of it when reading goblet of fire for the first time, and it paid of beautifully. The other one is Harry walking out of Dumbledore's office in the Order of the Phoenix I think, thinking about the prophecy, something along the lines of "some people would think there's no difference between walking into the arena of death resisting and protesting, and walking there with the head held high - but my parents knew it, Sirius knew it and so do I, thought Harry, that there's all the difference in the world*.

Most important line is this line from Trelawney's Prophecy: "And either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives..." This one line sends Voldemort on a murdering spree, and Dumbledor starts looking for and planing on how to prepare "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord". Because he (Dumbledore) understands he himself can not kill/defeat Voldemore. And poor Harry looses so much early in his life, his parents and having to live with the Dursley's while beeing tormented for 10 years, without knowing why. And the next seven years at Hogwarts Voldemort continues to try and kill Harry and his friends, and Dumbledore continues to protect and guide Harry so he can defeat and kill Voldemort. Because "And either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives". The most imortant line in all the books.
