They’re makin they’re own streaming service because Netflix refused to sell to them. They’re trying to beat Netflix at its own game. And they will likely be successful. It really makes me wonder what is going to happen to the marvel Netflix originals. The stuff Netflix actually made happen that the big studios didn’t want.

The issue there is that with their own Streaming Service they could in theory undercut Netflix for the first year or two, taking the loss for the long run gain. Undercut Netflix reducing Netflix subscribers to their cheaper service. Once Netflix is weakened they go in for the killing blow and buy Netflix out at its now reduced rate. Scrap the service for IPs and Contracts and move those over to their own streaming service. With Hulu and Netflix effectively dead they could charge 20 bucks a month and people will have to pay it to get access to those IPs.

The fact that Disney owns so much of our pop culture really disturbs me. Monopolies are a serious threat to innovation and creativity. Any one entity having a choke hold on any public service leaves us with no choices, and no competition means the monopolizer sets all prices and terms, which never benefits the consumer. That much control in one company's hands is downright creepy.

Rowling because she wouldn’t just let them do whatever they wanted with her franchise. It definitely seems like its sliding that way and that does seem to be disney's M.O. is to create fairly cooky-cutter content (pixar being a notable exception, family friendliness aside). That's unfortunate, since you could definitely see a route where being such a huge company with guaranteed revenue streams could allow them to be more adventurous on the sides since they can afford some failures (though arguably that's part of the criticism of the last jedi).

I don't have a problem with disney per se, and really like a lot of things they produce. There is a lot of reporting about their fairly ruthless business practices however, both with competitors and their own employees, that makes me a little leery anytime they gain more power.

Legally they can't, they are already dealing with anti-trust laws for the 20th Century Fox acquisition, those laws prevented them from buying Fox entirely including Fox News which Rupert Murdoch would never sell even if Disney wanted it), the Fox Network (Trade rules prevent anyone from owning more than one Broadcast Network) or Fox Sports (do to them also owning ESPN). This also means that Disney can never by Warner Brothers legally for two big reasons: one- that would give Disney a monopoly in the comics industry do to Warner Brothers owning DC Comics, and two that would give Disney over 50% of control over all cinematic media which is not allowed under American Antitrust Laws.

I like you guys a lot, but you're only scraping the surface of this case. And as a matter of fact: Disney owning fox is a SAD DAY for entertainment. You're forgetting all the IP's Disney now owns that will NEVER be revisited by Disney because they simply are too dark or violent to be under the Disney-brand or tat Disney have no interest in developing. So if you like: - Die Hard, The Exorcist, Planet of the Apes, The Omen, Alien and/or Predator - I'm sorry ,but you won't get any more of those. Disney was so interested in the mega superhero franchises that they didn't even think about what to do with the smaller (but AMAZING) franchises they have purchased. Not only that, but Disney also owns Fox Searchlight and Fox 2000 now. 2 production studios that have developed some INCREDIBLE, Oscar-worthy movies. But because there are no people left to operate them due to the massive firings of Fox-employees that took place during the Disney/Fox deal - those studios will be shot down. That's between 50 and 100 incredible mid-to-low budget movies per year that will no longer be made. So I ask you: is watching Hulk take on Wolverine really worth it? Absolutely not
