I said I'd buy my first motorbike for Christmas. And it's a Ducati!! I rode down to Motoline to get Michelin Road 5 tyres installed and talk you through why I bought this Ducati. The perfect end to an epic journey with Michelin. What an amazing experience and I can't wait to get more confident on 2 wheels!

I remember I picked up my first bike in November. On the day there was terrential rain and absolutely flooded roads. TRUST ME, learning to ride in those conditions all throughout November to probably February, was the best thing I could have asked for! If you can ride well in the wet, you can ride 10x better when it's dry.

Here in the United States, when I was a kid, TV channel ABC had a show called ABC Wide World of Sports. Came on each Sunday if I remember correctly. On WWS, they had an annual event called The SuperBikers. This event would gather the top racers from each motorcycling racing segment: flattrackers, motocross and road racers. They developed a track that was a combination (in various segments) of each of their native racing environments. Then the bikes they equipped them with were basically dirtbikes with street racing tires. They let these guys loose to determine who was the best of the best. It was SO EXCITING to watch each year! The HyperMotard is the perfect embodiment of this genre, and based on your various introductions, I can see why you settled on the HyperMotard as your chosen steed. Enjoy!

The make of tyres are very important on your cars as you know but on a bike they are extremely important and something you will learn is to read the road surface ( ie dry, wet , oil spills etc) which becomes a far bigger factor when you only have two wheels instead of four. Take your time and lm sure you will love it - your bike is very trick 👍👍

I've got Road 5's on my VFR1200F and had them on my Tiger 1200 before as well, great tyre, the steep angle makes heavier bikes turn in a lot easier which is great. Not sure you need sharper handling on the Hypermotard though 👀

Nice bike (and bike format) - really not a beginner's bike (engine size - 1L is a serious engine, luckily the V-twin is more about torque than power) - make use of those driver aids until you're skilled up, and like he said you could stay on that bike for your whole riding career and be happy. Another tip with new tyres is a scotchbrite pad with soapy water and give the tread a good going over (rinse really really well). The mold release can be super slippery when you're leaned over. Front and back track stands (as a minimum) makes washing and maintaining the bike much easier. Chain oiler is another thing I'd never do without. Well lubed chain is a noticeably smoother ride.

Don't you have any kind of engine power limitation for rookies in the UK? Can't belive a noob like him can just get his license and start riding such a bike at full power. OMG, his feet can barely reach the ground! I've riding motorbikes all my life and I don't get why the rush to buy such a big, expensive, powerful bike (and he says he was about to get a superbike!!!). He still clearly has a lot to learn about bikes and a lot of mishaps to go through along his learning curve (mishaps which are much safer to suffer on a mid-power and easier to ride bike). Don't get me wrong, the Hypermotard is a fantastic and super-fun bike, but any little mistake or calculation error on a 140hp super-torquey twin-cylinder engine can be fatal. I guess this is business and of course a more modest bike would not get enough attention on KZbin to help him pay his instalment . Ride safe!

If you are worried about a bike intimidating you, I’d definitely invest in some fast road rider training. I’ve done several levels of it and quite honestly on the road 99% of tyres are fine. It is ability, confidence and most importantly properly reading the road and keeping your vision raised. Leave the bike in the standard settings for 6 months and do some proper training.

Awsm choice! The hypermotard is one of the best 2nd bikes on the market. Hilarious fun to ride, sporty, comfortable and those looks are to die for. You need a full exhaust on this bike tho, it sounds insane!

A bit late to say but be careful man, getting a hooligan bike like that in December and new tyres. U are lucky to have the budget for that to be your first bike but would hate for u to bin it on wet or icey roads and be put of riding or get hurt. Hope u are still having fun on it?
