So I did this, couldn’t wait any longer for the follow up video. Only issue I had was with the stereo male to RCA plug. I ordered it brand new but I kept getting that popping noise Ralph was talking about in the video. After pouring over all my connections I just tried using an old RCA to RCA connection from the Line Out Converter to the amp and it worked perfectly. Hope that helps any other impatient people such as myself.
@marshallkkurtz3 жыл бұрын
I did this too (RCA from line level converter to RCA in on the amp.) What did you wire the transducer into, the green “Super Bass” port?
@s0u1assassin3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I wired the transducer to the little green plug. I really just went kind of blindly into the whole thing not having done anything like this before. It was intuitive enough I suppose.
@marshallkkurtz3 жыл бұрын
That’s what I did too. It makes a difference for sure, but it didn’t seem to be as much of a boost as I was expecting (unless I turn the bass volume up past the point where the blue light starts blinking). I asked Ralph about this on his Coffee Talk and it doesn’t sound like he’s planning to update this video, but he did say he’d post something about it on his Retro Ralph Facebook page.
@marshallkkurtz3 жыл бұрын
I also can’t figure out what he’s using the cable coming out of the front Aux jack for. It could be cool to put a headphone jack near the front of the machine, but I figure he would have mentioned that as part of the mod if that was his plan.
@s0u1assassin3 жыл бұрын
@@marshallkkurtz that’s the stereo to RCA plug that didn’t work for me. I’ve found myself doing something to this cabinet every week since I got it. First was this transducer mod. Then I switched the plexi for glass. Moved the solenoids to the top plate this past weekend and am putting in some Happ buttons this week once they arrive in the mail. I absolutely love this machine. Yes, the 720 screen is not ideal but when you’re actually playing it doesn’t matter. People keep comparing them to $3K home made monsters and those are two very different machines. For $550 I have no complaints with what I got.

I have these same exciters and transducers in my 27” cabinet that I built in the spring. They are so awesome so I would definitely recommend it for the Arcade 1 Up cabinets if people are comfortable doing the mod. For me, it was probably easier since I was working with a PC and simply hooked everything through Amps and the 7.1 outputs on my motherboard. The end result is just so immersive.

Good stuff Ralph. Nice to see someone actually explain how SSF and transducers/exciters work with virtual pinball. Solenoids and exciters/transducers compliment each other very well. @nocturnal101ravenous63 жыл бұрын
Ralph, You Don't need 7.1 to use exciters and bass shakers, what you need to do is actually properly make a 3 way Crossover that filters and sends proper signals to each of the relative and correlating frequency ranges of each of the Exciters/BassShakers. Think of it like a Bookshelf speaker with 3 drivers a tweeter, mid, and woofer. Same thing, by adding several amps to your build your kind of needlessly spending extra money you don't need to Crossover PCBs are pretty cheap compared to a 7.1 amp. I would say If you want to do it properly, head over to "parts express"(clearly Ralph did Dayton Audio is their house brand) and you can ask staff questions on the website to help you out in designing your project.

Great video. But I have a question about the 3.5mm plug. When you take the plug from the back of DMD it has 3 sections I guess that's what I want to call it, 3 black rings. Most of the ones you can get only have two. Would that make a big difference between the sound and having to use the line converter? The "3 ringed " plug has 3 pairs of wires and of course 2 ringed has 2.
