Look at the heads, it's a Windsor engine now. Can't call it a Boss 302 anymore. If they had built up the original engine, or possibly created their own canted valve 302 I would be super impressed with this car. Don't think it's too easy to supercharge a Boss engine, have to change the piston's for a start. Much cheaper/easier to buy a crate engine which is why I am not impressed with this car. You are right about the paint though, it does look nice.

The Boss 302 was Ford's qualifier to get them into the TransAm series against the Camaro, Challenger, and the AMC Javelin. The HP numbers that were advertised didn't bear much resemblance to reality and were never given much credence. The factories were notorious for claiming XX amount of HP at 3,000 RPM in spite of the peak residing up around 5,500 or 6,000 RPM. It was supposed to placate the insurance companies of the day. We don't know what condition this car was in prior to the project starting. It may have been thoroughly trashed before it got the new crate motor and all the other work that was done to it. I would agree with the other commenters if the car was in fair to good condition initially, but we don't have that data...

Actually, the gold and black scheme was used by none other than racing legend Smokey Yunick on a 1969 Boss 302 in 1969 when the car was brand new from FoMoCo, a car that unfortunately was never campaigned. As the owner of a 1970 Boss 302 since 1974, I feel badly for the car that it retains little of its original pedigree. I agree with several of the posters -- a similar fastback/sportsroof would have been a better starting point.....
