Supercharged BRM V16 1.5L Engine start @ Shelsley Walsh Hillclimb

Hello Ladies & Gents,
We helped these chaps bump start this BRM V16 supercharged engine, at Shelsley Walsh in Worcestershire UK, which apparently is the oldest motosport track in the world, still in operation today.
This vid is a short. I filmed lots of other cars in action, and chatted to people there, and that footage will be covered in my next, long edit video, published here on Rusty Love youtube channel in a couple days, so if you'd like to watch it, consider subscribing to the channel, so you receive a notification to watch it once it's published.
This BRM runs on 80% Methanol, 10% Acetone and 10% race fuel. Which is probably why the sound coming out the exhausts is deafening and terrific!!

Years ago, about 1966/67, I saw Jackie Oliver demonstrating one of these at the Oulton Park Gold Cup meeting. Current 3 litre F1 cars were warming up in the paddock yet I could hear the BRM at the other end of the circuit. My favourite ever quote was when the car came back and their Chief Mechanic, Wilkie Wilkinson, spat on each of the 16 stub exhausts and declared 'Buggers only running on 14' . What a machine.

Went to the BRM Track Day at Blyton this week. It was good fun to see all the BRM's on the circuit and some static cars.

Hi there i was the guy in the video that told you the fuel mixture and the leaking is normal its just unwanted fuel out the bottom of the supercharger and is very normal

@@Classiccarbscouk yes mate that was me the big bearded fella. Yes i work for the company and one of the 2 engine builders involved in the build of the engine. Great video its always nice to see the reaction of people around this car

Is the supercharger crank driven? I can't find pics on the internet? Carbs separate from charger, how is the fuel getting into the supercharger? Curious, not an expert!

@@onedayiwillmakesomecontent the supercharger is droven via a shaft running 2 gears below the crank as the supercharger spins much faster than crank revs. The carb is a seperate unit bolted onto the front of supercharger with 2x su slides the 2 float bowls are mounted to the chassis. Fuel goea from the tank to a mechanical pump driven off the back of one of the cams feeding the float bowls then float bowls piped straight onto the carb then the suprecharger drags in and forces straight into plenum

I'll the acetone will break down the oil pretty quickly, seeping past the rings! Oil change every race? They say petrol's for washing parts, alcohol's for drinking & Nitro's for racing! Great content Manu!

We have to drain the fuel through after every weekend and flush it through with normal 105 fuel and start it up til it changes to a lower tone then turn it off and drain the fuel again and put it back in stores after a polish

Amazing piece of engineering when you consider it was designed in the late 40's . 600bhp on those tyres ,no roll cage or safety cell, brave men in F1 in those days .

@@baylessnow Actually BRM was the plaything of wealthy British Industrialists, like the Rubery Owen group, Tony Vandervell etc etc. Don't underestimate how well top-level drivers did back then, Moss definitely became wealthy through racing and the following celebrity. Even in 1950's Motorcycle racing, riders were earning upwards of 10,000 GBP per year, (documented by Ken Kavanagh, Geoff Duke ), equivalent of hundreds of thousands today

Someone said that current F1 engines sound like farting Hoovers. If you claimed that F1 engines sounded better back in the '50s, well, you try and tell the young people of today that ... they won't believe you.
