I honestly don’t think there is another company globally that can be compared to the quality of Retropower’s re-engineering skills. Singer comes to mind with their Porsche cars, but Retropower can seemingly re-engineer almost any vehicle using their unique skills. I’m also very proud that they are based here in the U.K. 🇬🇧

Seeing Natt with his coffee reminded me of my first day becoming foreman at the engineering firm I still work for. The boss said to me out of the blue, "you'll have to get used to drinking cold coffee" and I remember thinking that was a strange thing to say. By the end of the day I had had so many interruptions I knew exactly what he meant.

I watch these videos while sipping tea, dunking hobnobs and day dreaming about working on my own projects. As winter draws very near, which is my 'hibernate in the shed and stare at a car' time - I am beginning to re-accept I'll never reach this level of skill or ability 😆That said, I will still go out there, with some choice swearing and much clenching of teeth - wondering how come it looks so easy - yet I struggle to perform the simple proceedures? I'm getting better at it, I guess - still a long-arsed-way off from where I want to be though! I love hard work, I could watch it all day!

@54.57: These centre consoles were originally fitted to the Mk1 Cortina G.T. (63 onwards) along with all Mk1 Capri G.T. and all Corsair 2000E models. It was the coolest modification imaginable, and was pretty much compulsory that you then had to fit a wood rim steering wheel.

Nat, I must correct you about the transmission mount on X300 XJR6. The Auto version did indeed use a twin spring trans mount, but the manual with the Getrag box used the X100 XK8 type of rubber vee mount fixed to an aluminium crossmember. I know, I designed it.

Before you paint the cosworth think about swapping out the rear tow eye assembly from the donor car, the new shells used the Mk 2 sierra set up which sits lower down than the mk1 which then makes it obvious the car has been reshelled once the rear bumper is on.

When changing the wheelbase the factory Ackerman angles will be lost. Do you just not worry about that? 🧐
@Stu_21122 ай бұрын
I really can't imagine Nat 'just not worrying about that'. I can only think that this has been considered and calculated, knowing Nat's attention to detail with suspension kinematics and chassis dynamics.

TS 6:35 The reason they crack, is the differential between cast iron and aluminium. Consequently as the head expands, the manifolds cannot keep up The same is true of cool down,although ,it's not as detrimental ,as expansion is more stress,whereas compression due to the contraction may only fatigue the manifold studs, and maybe elongate the stud holes. what is interesting though, is that inumerable companies indulge in this practise. the 6 cylinder, however may be the exemplar as the longer head applies greater stress.
@bodanerius2 ай бұрын
Low unsprung weight has a number of advantages. Less rotating mass and less stress on the dampers. But with more power available and advances in damper technology. Those advantages are kind of moot. Cooling the brakes is a wiser priority.
@paulwhite74752 ай бұрын
What do you do to compensate for the Ackerman angle when you modify a wheelbase ?
@RetropowerNat2 ай бұрын
A very good question. It depends on the amount of wheelbase change and the initial Ackerman angle. Without going into a massive essay, there are a lot of schools of thought on Ackerman and no-one, even inside high level motorsport, can really agree on an “ideal”, so we tend to just ensure that the setup is still “reasonable”. Worst case, a small alteration of the steering arms/their mountings on the front uprights can solve any issue. In the case of wasaabi project, we will check all the geometry once the bodyshell is modified and the axle assemblies are fitted, and assess from there.
@itsalldoable2 ай бұрын
Nat, I thoroughly enjoy all your videos and learn something new most weeks. Question, at 23 minutes in, you talk about applying Epoxy primer to the E-Type in the fabrication shop. Do you get the body shop lads in to spray it with an air spray gun, or do you use a rattle can epoxy? If so, can you recommend one. I have a lot of bare steel in my shop that is currently being looked after with my dehumidifier. But I really want to get some epoxy primer onto the metal. Kind regards Paul

are you going to be upgrading the rear diff for the higher power output from the tuned engine?
@iansmith78712 ай бұрын
Enjoy your holidays fellas. On the DBS, it's entirely feasible that the rear arch construction wouldn't be what you'd expect for 'series production' as they were very handmade at a rate of probably less than 10 a week. Let me know if you want me to check mine and take a photo for you.

With the mesh in the dash trim where if you wrapped it in leather the mesh would then be too far recessed, why don’t you press the mesh so the edge that would be bonded would be recessed backwards then the top surface would be level with the face of the leather.
