Hey you are by far the best spyder driver I have seen. Great job breaking the stigma about these cars and having the balls to drive like that!
@totkamacedonia13373 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I really do not see what all the fuss is about, regarding the infamous "snap oversteer". I found the MR2 as easy to control as my current MX5 ND2. And it was MORE fun.
@zokusharuuku10912 жыл бұрын
You’re getting the sw20 and sw30 confused. The sw30 is known to have some of the best handling characteristics and is very controllable when you upgrade the suspension compared to most cars. The sw20 is known to be flipping a coin whether you’re going to spin into a ditch or not.

@zokusharuuku10912 жыл бұрын
It’s how the spyder drives when you have a square setup, tail end likes to slide out under acceleration and at the limit. It’s very controllable vs the slow speed understeer the car has. He could probably use some better tires imo but looks like he has fun with it.

Would you say the supercharger kit was worth the money looking back? Compared to just a standard 1zz?
@totkamacedonia1337 Жыл бұрын
Of course it was. 50HP more is not imperseptible. It was 3000$ back then and it was worth every penny. The car was on par with an ND2 Miata which I have today. The ONLY weak spot of the MR2 was the engine. Get rid of the cats first, then put in some wiseco pistons. Done.

@totkamacedonia13376 жыл бұрын
Tariq Schmidt this is a very low boost, so nothing needs to be done. However, I have put wiseco forged pistons, cuz I had to rebuild the engine anyway, due to the oil burning problems 1zz are famous for. Got them from monkeywrenchracing...

stock rods and all that stuff? and how much psi boost or bar? Thank you! trying to build a reliable boosted 1zz engine for my spyder race car.

This set up is reliable so far. I have 30k km on it. I have no idea of the boost pressure, but 230nm and 190hp at the crank is not that much I guess. The kit was purchased from PowerEnterprise (japan) ...Everything but the pistons is stock internally.

John G. Its a great car. Cant compare it to the mx5 yet though. The weak link is the engine. If want it not to burn oil, you have to rebuild it. And if it blows up, you have to rebuild another one - bore, forged pistons, etc...it can be expensive. All 1zz-fe burn oil. If you get one, REMOVE the cats first!!!

Job Cabanela The mods are only eibach pro kit springs and koni yellow adjustable shocks. I run H&R Spacers 10mm front, 15mm back. Toyo Proxes tyres and Quaife LSD ( no more “one tyre fire). The car is very neutral, going from understeer to oversteer , depending on driving style. My brother has a stock GT86, and The MR2 modded this way is slightly faster in a straight line, and more stable in corners, despite being mid engined.

@totkamacedonia13376 жыл бұрын
Typical Ruddy It is, cuz it is cheap to run and maintain. The only thing is, don’t push it too hard before you really know it, cuz once the back steps out, its hard to correct due to the weight of the engine at the back. Otherwise, its perfect (once you get rid of the cats which fail, and replace the stock pistons, which cause oil burning issues).
