Now I see why they're so successful: they get along! After singing in choirs and ensembles for 25+ years. I've learned that simply sounding good is not enough to keep a group together. You have to bond with your fellow band mates. Doing that allows you to feel safe when creating things, jamming and sharing ideas.

Fun fact: Mitch doesn't actually go higher on that note. He stays on the same pitch, just switches where it's placed in his head to be more resonant. Scott sings the high note there (and the run after it) instead, probably so that when Mitch DOES go for the high note at the climax, it has more impact.

To be honest, this is what me and my choir back in high school did when we went on tour to San Francisco every year during Spring Break. In the bus, we would just sing songs or make up our join jams here and there.
