This movie is short on story and long on fun(they don't even give a reason why a villain like Mongul would be on earth when he lives on some other side of the Universe) on it's kind of a dream scenario Batman and Superman team up to kick the living crap out of their entire rogues gallery the end. But it certainly lacks the cerebral focus of other DC films.

I still really enjoyed this movie, though I respect your points, and my only gripe was Superman's impeached quip. That should've been handled differently.
@deadponic1173 жыл бұрын
if theres one villian who deserves to or at least be permanently damaged by superman, its lex luthor, i see him as the personification of the napolean complex, and also as DC's Green Goblin but much more diverse.

I remember reading the comic as a young teen and being very impressed by all the inner dialogue you got to hear. It probably made me continue to be a comic fan for years afterwards because I got such a feel for both characters. I think a lot was lost in the animated film without that glimpse into their thinking.

Respectfully Captain I think you could have highlighted the dynamic/relationship between Batman and Superman,an aspect I for one enjoyed from the film and take away from it at the end of the day seeing how these 2 heroes different as they are and operate do respect eachother and work well as a team

A Superman/Hello Kitty crossover needs to happen. I think both of those characters could play off of each other well, and explore new territory in terms of both of their moral foundations.
@Geekvolution11 жыл бұрын
It's not nearly as emphasized as it should be, I don't think-- kinda by-the-numbers, Batman's got brains, Superman's got brawn, they're different but they're the same, but yes, they have some nice moments and I really should have addressed it. I trimmed down my introduction and there was some discussion about it there, so that's why it's missing. -CL

"...Exposing Major Force as Metallo's real murderer. A 2-dimensional loose canon just looking for any reason to kill someone." Okay, so now I am waiting for the Spawn retcon that reveals that neither Priest OR Chappel killed Spawn. In actuality, Jason Wynn hired Major Force to kill Al Simons.

Great review, but I think you lost sight of the plot when it came to Lex's motives. Yes, he planned to frame Superman. That's why he took Metallo, so Superman would fight him. No, Lex wasn't planning on blowing up the earth all along. His original plan was to blow it up. Lex was injecting kryptonite because it helped him concentrate. When the missiles failed, he tried to think of a new way to stop the meteor and injected more kyptonite until he went nuts and decided to let the earth get hit.

I believe the film's intended audience were the people who buy the comics and enjoyed the Dc animated universe series, Bruce Timm seemed to be more interested in developing more adult-oriented story telling, though I argue that his DCAU series are more mature in tone than many of the direct to Dvd films, only because they didn't try so hard to be mature, it just felt natural. Lastly, great review once again CL, hope to see more from this series of vids.

8:40 - 8:47 Oh, I'm sure a plot like that one would go over buttery smooth in a post-2020 world (and ESPECIALLY in a post 01/06/2021 world).

Personally, I think Hello Kitty was too extreme to put in this movie, Batman is more tame. I always thought this film and the comic was terrible. I remember there being a panel setting up a point and the very next panel contradicting and I just couldn't get into it. I like the new rewind format, its a good mix of images and help keep the viewers attention. Great Review

I agree with lots of what you said. You have Lex who has always hated superman and his selfish need for recolonization drove him to try to crush superman under his boot. With this story I feel they could of had it were even though his motivation were purely selfish to becoming president his actions still benefited everyone around him. Now the dynamic has changed now with Lex looking like the hero you know how superman question Lex's motivation trying desperately to prove Lex is a villain even though all lex has done up this point was help fix America's problem. Sure his motivation were selfish but does not change the fact that superman is letting his own personal feeling at Lex cloud his judgement. SO they could of played with that showing the shoe on the other foot type of story were superman would much rather see lex as a threat and not see the reality of the situation that lex is action are for the greater good despite this motivation being purely selfish, but no they decided to make lex turn into a villian with an insane plot that someone who is as smart as lex would not see any upside to.

An excellent review as always Cap! I was wondering if would ever consider updating your Top 50 Superhero Casting Decisions or your Top Ten Most Shafted Characters in Superhero Movies. Personally, I think Marc Strong as Sinestro deserves to be on the former list. Can we expect any reviews of the 2011 superhero films anytime soon, because I've noticed that all four of them that summer were about creating other worlds, where two of them created fantasy worlds and the other two were period films?

If you like the Brainiac arc, you're gonna like this one too, Cap. One con is that they didn't even try to capture the Gary Frank style of art. Instead the seem to be almost a Samurai Jack/Genndy Tartakovsky influence at times, but I suppose it works there.

Just because there's a few curse words doesn't mean you can't show it to your kid. Quit being a Puritan. Batman '89 had plenty of swearing and it didn't scar me at age 5.
@creamithmanning26328 жыл бұрын
The problem isn't scarring your kids. The problem is that kids are extremely impressionable and will end up doing something stupid like going to school and dropping bad words like they just dropped a new Gangsta Rap record and as a result, get in trouble. All because of a fucking movie.

Goku Black Ik this is a late response. But my idea is to just avoid the situation all together and just have the writers be creatively challenged to get it's points across without having it be there. Worked wonders for all of the other animated series
