I really wasn’t aware of the SMS growing up but I fell deeply in love with it last year. On my day off last summer I was scrolling through Facebook marketplace as I tend to do when I saw a SMS, 19 loose games, 3-D glasses, light phaser & 2 controllers for $125! I lept into action and picked everything up 30 min later. It was a 1 owner system that a guy had since childhood. Games included such gems as Wonder Boy III & R-Type! About a week later ANOTHER SMS popped up for the same price. This time with 12 CIB games including paperboy, shinobi & vigilante(only 3 were games I already had)2 controllers and a light phaser! I got it, kept the games I didn’t have, and sold the system, 3 dupes & light phaser to a buddy for $100. It’s such a cool little system that you rarely see in the wild. I’ve picked up a couple of games from eBay & game shops since then (grabbed Alf loose from eBay for $15). I now have over 30 games and really look forward to growing the collection!

Great video dude, here's a wall of text. My family had a Master System back when I was a kid in SoCal in the 90s. Thinking back they must have bought it on clearance at Sears or somewhere like that, since my grandma used to look out for that type of stuff. The console itself had Astro Warrior and Hang On built in and we had some games like Castle of Illusion, Ghost House, Afterburner, Outrun, and I think a few others. I don't know exactly where that console went and since then I have never ever seen another one with the same games built in, although I'm sure there are at least a few out there.

I've played Action Fighter most of the time on Amiga. Very fun game! Back in the days I spent hours and hours on this game, so much fun! Astro Warrior/Pit Pot in a combo cartridge was the first video game I owned and it was a fantastic shoot em up and it still is! R-type on SMS is incredible! Almost perfect! I leave in Europe (France) and I grew up with this console. I had no problem finding almost every tiles of the SMS for a very cheap price, most of the time dozens of games on garage sales for nothing (1 euro the CIB game) in the early 2k's.

R-Type for the Sega Master System is one of the most impressive ports on the console. Sega got developer Compile to port it. Although, the best way to play this game on this console, is to play it with the FM chip on a Japanese SMS or a Mark III with the FM add on. That or modding the US console.

Great selection of games, with three recent pickups I have 10 games to go for the World Set excluding the South American titles (you just never see them for sale unfortunately :(). You have lots more titles to look forward too, as there is surprisingly very little filler in the collection. If you like racing games there are three Outrun ones, and if you like Disney games, Castle of Illusion is fantastic. You need some Fantasy Zone in your collection, 2nd one is the best one :)

The Master System version is BY FAR the best version of the David Crane Ghostbusters game, and the (more famous in the US) NES version is BY FAR the worst! Even the 2600 & C64 versions are notably much better. It gets a bad rep based on the terrible NES game that people know but it's sadly a case of a terrible port sabotaging a decent game. The MS version is God-like by comparison, seriously!

I'm right at your age range and I grew up with NES, but when I started collecting again as an adult I quickly found a Master System and love it. I even bought an Everdrive since a lot of the games I wanted to play were from Japan and Europe, and also the ability to play Sega SG-1000 games. I even got a few Game Gear games to work on the Everdrive that people have provided patches and color pallete balancing to be able to play(Mega Man, Battletoads, Dynamite Headdy, and Ristar I think). But I still bought copies of games I love, and ran into a couple of unpassable deals (Phantasy Star partially sealed for 20 bucks whaaaaaaaat?) I somehow ended up with 2 copies of Ninja Gaiden since I wanted the manual so bad, so 1 is complete and the other is box and cartridge. Those European manuals are ugly lol. Still need to get rid of that extra copy, I really think it's a masterpiece game with beautiful play style, graphics and box art. But probably my favorite SMS related thing I own is a poster with such a horrible western-ized version of Master Higgins and Space Harrier, it's awesome. My mom works in the library amd found it in a book that got donated, doesn't have a crease or tear on the poster. Weird how stuff gets lost in time, but I'm guessing it came with some SMS game.

1. Mercs - definitely not a Brazilian copy, European my guess. 2. Ghostbusters - I personally like this version, since it is the first one that I played, but the Genesis version is probably the one your talking about! 3. R-Type - Awesome version!!! Check it out!

The Master System is Region free! So you can buy European games and play on your system with no problems. The European library is easily double the US library. Very awesome games and many a cheap. Wonder boy in monster land is cheap in PAL region. Keep an eye out for Wonder Boy in Monster World in PAL region. But its not a cheap game
