Sorry for not watching, but the tutorial page was enough ;) I got 6 Swisstone SH 100 Power Plugs for 5€ each and was prepared to solder, but fortunately tuya-convert works like a charm. Thanks, Jonathan.

Thanks for the video Jonathan. I managed to buy a couple of Brilliant plugs from Officeworks today and was able to flash Tasmota easily thanks to your guide.

Another great video Jonathan. Flashed an Arlec PB89ha power block flawlessly following these instructions. :)

I’ve used Tuya Convert once before and was shocked and how simple and easy it was compared to soldering headers, connecting with FTDI adapter and compiling then flashing using PlatformIO.

Excellent video, just be careful with using those particular Kogan plugs - I've had at least half a dozen fail/burn out. They are widely reported doing the same thing on the HA forums also. The newer version with the twin USB on the top are far better, but most likely running newer firmware now.

Thanks for the tip! I have 6 in daily use and I haven't had any fail yet. I'll keep an eye on them though.

You're a year late with this video. I've used Tuya Convert versions 1 and 2 with great success, but haven't been able to find a Tuya Convertable device in at least 6 months. I think Tuya Convert is on its death bed if not already dead.

Great video 👍 But where is the follow up video...can't find it and this video is 2 years old. Well I think this will send me to local tuya 😊

Great video Jon. I got a box of 4 of those Kogan Smart Switches with Energy monitoring and tuya-convert worked fine on those. I got another box at a later time, from Kogan same model, etc but tuya-convert didn't work on those. So had to resort to opening them up and applying the manual method (which you mention will be in future videos). I wonder how long existing devices will still be able to leverage the tuya-convert process?

It really sucks that Tuya is taking this approach. They used to be a favorite for DIY home automation, but it won't be long before they've totally burned that bridge.

A lot of new tuya devices are not tasmotizable because of secured firmware, did this in the past but not anymore.

Jonathan, it's pretty obvious that the manufacturers that go to an unmodifiable firmware don't get it; if they make it harder to change the firmware, a lot of us will not continue buying their products. Oh well.

I may be wrong but I think you will find that the number of people that want to modify a product out of the thousands (millions?) that simply buy and use would be very little. I don't think a manufacturer such as Arlec or one of the hundreds that sell Smart devices would be swayed by it. Sad but true.

With gridconnect (bunnings) devices being Tuya compatible out of the box, does this apply to their other sensors such as smart hub, BT temp/motion sensors etc. I assume it'd be similar. Gridconnect reports to tuya's cloud IOT with 2 mins setup work, however all changes are Logs in the device. i'd love to get them to report locally into homeassistant or similar. Alternatively an API push from tuya's cloud to home assistant reporting the changes.

Have check out the Sonoff SPM it can handle up to 20A each channels and connect to 128 channels? It also do power monitor. It is cheaper solution. I think Shelly is over price. What do you think of Sonoff SPM modules?

Hi, I have slowly been getting into home automation, more because I like to experiment (I have an electrical background) but am enjoying being able to do things remotely as well. I have several Sonoff devices that I have set up with eWeLink and then added to Google home. These all work very well and basically do what I want. I have watched several of your videos and they all seem to have a common theme in that you keep banging on about installing Tasmota software (firmware?). The thing is you never explain why, and you never explain that once a unit is converted how do you then control it. Does it still work via Google Home or do you require a dedicated app? Apologies if this is explained in one of your videos but as I say I have watched a number and have not come across it. I was hoping that this one would be the one but....

Wait whats the point of the tablet? Its seems like you still need to use the shell to control the converter?

I tried it, and had this error: "Your device's firmware is too new. Tuya patched the PSK vulnerability that we use to establish a connection." What do you suggest?

Hey Jon, Why does the Box Finder box not have a locating tag on it? Are you afraid that having the Box Finder system find its own parts is going to create some weird Time / Space Warp thingie?? ;-)
@SuperHouseTV
@SuperHouseTV 3 жыл бұрын
It can't do infinite loops. The serious answer though is that the BoxFinder project was something I was working on using low-power devices attached inside each box, so they could be made to flash on command. It wasn't practical so I switched to using Aruco tags and cameras.

You can also get devices with Tasmota pre-flashed. The selection is not huge, but some bulbs, like GU10, can be tricky to open and connect to.

ZigBee 3 devices are more than affordable nowadays and are even cheaper(e.g. Ikea, Lidl, Osram,... ) than flashable Wi-Fi plugs/whatever IoT. I don't see any reason to go for Wi-Fi based IoT instead of an open source ZigBee concentrator and controller software.
@JohnnieHougaardNielsen
@JohnnieHougaardNielsen 3 жыл бұрын
While ZigBee is indeed also good for local home automation, I'd still very much prefer the additional flexibility and capabilities of replacement firmware like Tasmota. I just like having full control over my hardware.
