Findaway Voices does not allow narrators to do cold auditions. A narrator on the Findaway platform has to be invited to audition. And ACX does not compensate narrators...the payments on ACX come directly from the rights holder. ACX just provides a platform for narrators and authors to find each other.

I'll try harder. ACX directly told me that they don't do outside of the USA. I was born and raised in infamous Miami, FL, USA, and thankfully live away from all three places now. I've been stuck though in the Philippines, so I'm trying to save up. Hehe

It's very hard to get voiceover work. The competition is strong. I narrate my own videos and completed some voiceover courses but having created a profile on several reputable sites I got no offers after many months. I was competing for work against trained actors, so doing a few courses is no guarantee of work.

I give Voices a 2 for the free experience because it's hard to land a gig not being in the special circle of folks that paid a few hundred dollars for membership. It would be nice to actually have someone actually choose me, but each gig has about 50 people auditioning for the same spot. I had no luck in the past 6 months I've been on and actively auditioned. The auditions do make great sample pieces, though.

With all gig sites (upwork, narration sites and so on) there is competition. If you are new - it is hard to get noticed and have a deal. For narration Indians are no competition, but still many people.

Well, you need to be able to read well. Helps if you've read the material a few dozen times so you know how it sounds to you when you read it out. Next you want as much quiet as possible. If u can limit the sound of cars driving by and dogs barking it improves the quality of your sample. I hear a lot of people hide in their closet with a 20 dollar Mike to start. The clothes act as sound blankets. When you get further into the profession you can develop your own studio at home and market that as part of your voice acting experience and skill set

Ai can do all of this now. There will be no reason to pay humans. The newest ai voices sound like real humans and they can read and narrate an entire book for free.

AI mispronounces many words, has stilted inflection and intonation and is easily recognized as fake. Mainly it sounds like someone reading without understanding. Any non-native speaker with minimal experience in a language can read like that.

Ai caaan sound human but they fail to illicit excitement anger sadness betrayal. They fail to convey emotion. Even when listening to other readers online here there are some stories I simply won't listen to because the reader is dry. You could take the driest novel known to man and if it was read with emotion it could captivate anybody. But take the world's best written stuff and give it to a robot and see how viewers drop

What about the audio and production side of this? Do I need to set up a home recording studio? I've had a lot of experience as a musician in professional recording studios but I've never been an engineer. A decent microphone could easily cost $1000 . What kind of microphones are they using? What kind of software and editing tools? Pro tools? Logic? Over the years, I've been told a number of times that I could be a radio announcer (i've got a good 'master of ceremonies' type of voice.

As far as rating the different websites, this video is great. But you make it sound like anyone can become a narrator. First, there is a huge amount of competition, and most narrators have acting and/or narration experience already. Second, you must have your own professional equipment and a soundproofed room so there is no other noise on your recording, which you will do yourself (not in a studio they provide). I worked as on-air talent in radio for years, and was told 30 years ago that it's very hard to get work unless you're a professional actor. Yes, audio books provide more work than before, but still there are many barriers to entry with this type of work..

I’m sure you refuse to watch Game of Thrones with unbearable voices, telling a story to represent so many characters requires much more demanding voice. Conclusion: I bet there are stories that could be told perfectly with you voice; if you present your availability to the market.

That means eliminating jobs and using AI in the place of human workers. Many tech jobs are being eliminated. In 5 or so years, the landscape will look very different.

I suppose the concept of nuance escapes you then? AI doesn't understand nuance. Tone shifts. Emotion. Not to mention proper pronunciation of the words being used (you'd be amazed how many they get wrong). Sure AI can provide you a voice, but that's all it can provide. It's soulless. Bereft of vibe or context. I know it might be hard to accept, but AI isn't the be-all-end-all. It has sharp and severe limitations. This one among them.
