Dr. Derhake: I am ever so grateful that you made this video. I will be having the SCR w/ DA in a couple weeks. Viewing this has prepared me for post-op and made me aware of things I must avoid doing. Thank you!

Did the graft turn all into tendon or it stays like the skin graft?
@brewster881 Жыл бұрын
Having just gone through surgery, I would NOT recommend being woken up for any reason except an emergency. From my experience, getting any sleep was the most valuable part of my recovery. After 3 weeks I was able to remove my sling as per my surgeon. I had pillows to support my shoulder and slept on my back, with minimal movement. I used soft ice packs during the day for pain relief . The ICEMAN was very good for the first 2 weeks, but$$$. My surgeon advised me to walk to keep my blood/oxygen flowing and it made a huge difference, started at week 3 and I got progressively longer walks. Week 5..more stamina..better sleep...I'm 63 and feeling better every day.

use door mounted pulleys at home during the rehab get prp too baloon spacer is good as well helps keep downward pressure on the graft for 6 months post op

So you had the balloon & the tissue graft? I think my doc was only going to do the balloon . but I know that doesn't necessarily give long term fix
@smtob666 Жыл бұрын
@@mbhamp1 the balloon does not fix the tear, only the graft does. The spacer helps hold the humeral head down. My doc was so fixated on the graft, he neglected the partial tear in the subscap, and 9 days out, while in a sling, the subscap tore much worse. Now he's recommending a second surgery. Unbelievable.
@GoodByeSkyHarborLive Жыл бұрын
@@smtob666so he repaired the subscap how did it go? Did he say the graft stays forever or the supra tendon regrows over time with the scr.?

How well does a SCR improve pseudoparalysis

What are, if there are any, any load limits on this repair?
@dr.adamderhakeqmgorthopedi47303 жыл бұрын
Once patients complete the 6 month postop rehab program, there are no restrictions on the repair. However, sometimes patients are still limited by the amount of strength that they are able to achieve.

@@dr.adamderhakeqmgorthopedi4730 So it's possible to return to weight lifting or even power lifting?
@biosphere8488 Жыл бұрын
@@Very_Stupid I was just informed that I will need this SCR surgery. I lift weights too. Did you end up having to have this surgery, and if so how was your experience? When were you able to start lifting again?
@Very_Stupid Жыл бұрын
@@biosphere8488 No, I wasn't a suitable candidate for SCR, but the doctor performed a shoulder salvage procedure. I lost a lot of strength, but I can actually do pushups again, I just need to be more consistent. I was ordered to stay away from weights for a minimum of 6 months, but a year is more pragmatic. I also wear a shoulder brace everytime I do pushups or bench pressing, it really helps stabilize my shoulder as a whole. Best of luck to you on your surgery, let me know how it goes.

@@Very_Stupid That sucks man, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm even more depressed and discouraged now. I just got referred today to see a specialist for this SCR surgery in Charlotte, NC. So I don't even know yet if he will do it. But my Ortho doc said I might be a good candidate for it because of my activity level. Either way, the future sounds depressing when lifting weights is your main passion and suddenly taken away from you. I dread all the muscle atrophy that will surely follow. Take care brother
