We met up with Fran Hall from Superlite cars to discuss his latest project, the Superlite Aero, This 490hp LS3 powered LMP 1900lb race car designed as a gentleman race car but also a spec racer and track day car. This car was designed for reliability and ease of serviceability.

@@tingshawn Unfortunatey this Aero got T boned in practice yesterday..so it will not be competing tomorrow in the time trial event. Cool car in person..but I don't see myself buying one. My Ariel Atom2 will have to suffice.

Btw that curve on the side that looks like reverse aerodynamic causing drag. Im pretty sure thats an air scoop for the engine, just they haven’t cut the hole out yet to let the air through.

I like it, but the aerodynamics could be better. They have drag being created that is not making any downforce; you might as well take advantage of necessary drag and use part of those vectors for downforce.

What does that mean? All mathematical engineering is done sitting in a chair. I see a lot of stupid aerodynamics on cars like this b/c they are mindlessly copying what 'race cars' have. The issue, is that these 'race cars' like F1 and NASCAR have to follow very specific, and highly limiting rules. As far as I know, there is no truly unlimited race car class. One thing that is severely limited is aerodynamics. Well on a street car or a fun track car, there are no rules with regards to aerodynamics, yet these manufacturers continue to limit themselves needlessly.

DjRjSolarStar Only pointing out that in a 5 minute video we aren't given enough information about vehicle and all the ideas and constraints that go into building it. It's clearly not aero debauchery. But they probably did what they did with sincere intentionality. It's pretty cheap too. $70k is a steal for how fast it must be.

Yea, I agree that $70k is a good deal for what you're getting. I'm sure this is faster than any Hellcat, C7, Cobra kit car, Mustang, BMW, or Merc in the same price range. It just irritates me that with some slight body modifications it could have been better. After taking so many physics classes, which are the root of fluid computational dynamics, I've memorized angular efficiencies for various angles relative to their normal force. This car is full of shapes that aren't generating downforce but are generating drag. If I were part of the design team, I could have increased downforce at 150 mph by at least 25% with no detriment other than 'style' I suppose. This car does look pretty cool, and my version may not look as good, but is it worth prioritizing appearance over performance in a car like this? I get that on a Ferrari or a Mclaren, but a track car?

im thinking of the complex shapes you are thinking of would take away from the 70k price tag. more complex = more manufacturing complexity = more $ thats just my guess though as my cfd physics expertise goes about as far as the roller coaster i just designed on roller coaster tycoon. (not very far, people died) so yeah thats all i have to say about that.

Despite steel,1900lbs. Carbon chassis LMP900 cars weighed 1989 lbs/ 900kg. 69k,turnkey. Nuff said.
