Correction: At the end of the video I mistakenly said the front tires are 12.4” wide which is 1” wider than listed on Michelin’s web site. In fact they are 11.4” wide, but just too wide for the SLC with the rims provided in the kit.
In this video we put the center section of the body called the spider and nose on the chassis. This way we can check the fit for the mocked up radiator shroud. Also leaving the spider on so we can mock up the rear intercoolers, and oil sump tank and make sure they fit within the body structure.

Awesome Joel! And this segment had a bonus live action sequence with someone walking into the frame of your camera for a moment! I’m working on a very different type of project right now (adding a significant expansion to my barn/workshop) and your updates provide great motivation and a break from time to time!

Barry Finger Thanks Barry, actually had a small segment of my son interviewing me right after we rolled the body outside, but that scene was dropped by the editor! I will make an on camera appearance at some point! Glad you enjoy the videos.

I've enjoyed watching the progress. On the tire clearance issue. Why not just screw in the tie rod ends on both upper and lower control arms equally. This would pull the entire spindle inside the car.

Alfonso Demagistris thanks, very happy with the fit of the body. I watch alot of component car build videos and the bodies rarely line up well and need quite a bit of work. Once I get the new front tires on, should be in good shape with regard to wheel alignment in the arches.

Love the car! Did your kit come with a build manual? I'm still figuring out which kit I would like to build price range and all that, however looking between factory 5 and RCR, I've heard that RCR cars don't have build manuals? Can you confirm that? Thanks for your time

Thanks Kyle, yes there a build manual. There are also numerous detailed build logs on GT40s.com and an excellent SLC video build series on KZbin by ZAKARI3000. One of the best build blogs is socalslc.com. Happy to answer any questions you have.

SS OFFSHORE Thanks! Couldn’t tell you exactly in terms of actual pounds how heavy the body is but two people can pick up that center section with no problem. My guess is the front and rear clam are less than 100 pounds each.

I am a mechanical engineer and have been looking at these for quite sometime (even read some of your post on a forum). How would you compare this "experience" vs lets say the new corvette

Argenis Perez I haven’t seen the new corvette in person, but for me it’s all about the build and creating something unique. I’ve owned vipers and Corvettes and expect this car to be much more of a visceral driving experience.

It’s a custom windshield DOT compliant and supplied with the kit.

is there any way you can adapt power windows on that thing?? or have you seen one with power windows?? i'm planning on buying one and would like to have some power windows

Hi Jose, it’s never been done. Some say it is not possible based on the shape of the door and windows. I haven’t put much thought into it, but perhaps if you buy the 2 part windows and have the bottom portion retractable either manual or powered it may work. Many builder do power doors. Not sure if that will pass NJ inspection so I am thinking manual doors with the struts to make them easy to open.

jose zaragosa every state is different and you really need to under what you can and can’t get registered. Especially when it comes to emissions and safety. What state do you live in?

jose zaragosa I would go on the factoryfiveforum and search for registration and see if anyone has registered a car in Washington state. Looks like they have a process for Custom Designed Vehicles. www.dmv.com/wa/washington/custom-vehicle-registration I would make sure I understand what you can and can’t do before you buy the kit and the engine.

If you could find those wheels with a different offset that would be perfect to suck those tires in.

owen ross Thanks for the feedback. There are some other challenges moving those wheels in. Specifically there are coolant pipes that run along the chassis and the wider front tires could interfere with them and limit an already large turning radius.

My fronts are narrower with the std offset and they rub or come very close to rubbing on the inside, I don't see how those tires could be made to fit without protruding.
