Taemin kept saying that he wished Infinity was the title track because that intro is awesome and it sounds so epic. I think a lot of people do like Infinity better but the One also sounds really good too. I think it was a hard decision on SM's part to choose Infinity or One because both are so grand. SM really likes to experiment with title tracks and so that's why they chose One over infinity probably.

Right,i actually really disliked Monster's chorus upon hearing it the first time it was EXTREMELY underwhelming. Its grown on my now actully and I've grown to really like it. The way they combined them really showcased the finer points of each sing definitely, especially considering how MUCH Infinity is. I definitely loved how it was mixed.

It's not really "too much" imo. What people didn't really realize is Infinity also kinda suffers a bit of "problem" in its composition. The verses & prechoruses are very choppy, the overall movement & energy in those parts are quite different with the chorus' smooth melodic lines. But people didn't really notice it or mind about it much bcus the song it still building up & progressing. Most people weren't actually expecting much in those parts & this is true for most of the songs out there. This is why Infinity as a whole is better than Monster. Now with Monster, people are expecting smthing that gives more energy & movement in the chorus, smthing that pump up the listeners to be shocked about. But instead, the chorus is anticlimactic. Giving the same movement as the verses yet totally lacked the buildup energy the prechorus has. This is why it sounds underwhelming. ONE completely get rid those parts & instead combined the parts that keep an overall same vibe. It takes away the choppy verse & prechorus of Infinity, also the underwhelming chorus of Monster & instead combine the smooth verse & buildup prechorus of Monster with energized chorus & bridge of Infinity. Resulting in a song that's much more solid & compact structure-wise, keeping the same energy & movement thru out the song seamlessly.

The concept relates to THE MATRIX series. The M in SuperM stands for Matrix and Master. Taemin being the Master... maybe like the Architect or most likely the Morpheus who helps others to wake up from the matrix virtual reality. In the teasers he is already shown at the top of the Pyramid and controlling the machines, the virtual reality in which they are all inmersed somehow. In the MV they are trying to find the source to destroy it (as mentioned in the lyrics: landing in the matrix trying to break it) Taeyong has the device with the map with the way showed in red line. They seem to unlock some metallic doors, Kai breaks through and smashes all the digital background as a metaphor of escaping the matrix. Taeyong stomps in the ground, then everything will explode and appear a building in ruins... The mirrors scene can also mean the different virtual realities, what is real and what is reflection...

Then the image of Lucas in the black long leather coat floating, resembles the Neo bullet-slow-motion-scene. When they all get into the source, they are wearing the black and green outfits, also with some green splashes in their bodies, those two colors are the colors of the codes of the matrix, the famous scene with the black screen and all the code numbers in green. Lucas may be Neo "The One", wearing that long leather jacket, floating like Neo in the bullet slow motion scene, and his lines "i'm the other one, chillin with them other ones"... He could also be the Other One... The Oracle said after Neo dies there will come the Other One who will continue the cycle.

There are loads of references in the lyrics, some very literal!!! Also the sets, the outfits and the scenes (like the famous Neo avoiding the bullets one). Also there are references to the number one and the concept of infinity. In Matrix they also assemble to.fight against the Matrix, with Morpheus as the head. The number one represents unity, also in some cultures represents God and the Universe. So the triangle and pyramid are also symbols for One. The pyramids/triangles also represents the four elememts of earth in alchemy. Taemin is holding the device that shows the symbol of infinity (also in 100MV intro). But then strokes continue, and look like "ae". "AE" in Old English means One. But also if you turn the symbol the e turns into a, so is it two "a"? A, the first letter, also represents ONE. Also the word Infinity, is in the Matrix soundtrack Main Theme: Trinity Infinity

For me i think they really live to that 'Avengers' concept, they even are partners with Marvels... SuperM can be like an Avenger concept to Exo's fighting the Red force of evil as seen Baekhyun and Kai from Exo planet using their powers in exo (kai's symbol pyramid is always seen) and the rest from different groups (which i am still not familiar becoz i just started digging into NCT) and Taemin being one of the 2nd gen kpop feels like a Captain Marvel feels. Also in the behind the scenes for One MV I think it’s Mark that says their concept for One is that they are aliens and Kai said something about how in exo he’s an alien from exo planet and gets to be one again or something like that. I love reading theories, but bad at figuring them out lol. I know NCT has some kind of dream/Alternate reality concept. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen VHRs/teaser videos on it that came out during the regular era and they really haven’t had anything before or after that, that I can remember that went along with that storyline unlike exo who’s videos all connect someway to their story or maybe they do and I just missed it since I’m not good at figuring out the hidden messages and meanings. I’d love to see someone go through everything in both of their groups and connect things and make a big theory for each separately and then connecting to SuperM, but that would take a lot of time and you’d have to be really good at that stuff

Taemin's bridge is unique to One. In Monster he sings the same lines but in a higher key. They lowered the key for One so it could flow smoothly with the Baekhyun+Ten bridge which is originally from Infinity. Genius

Taemin said the ending was a big spoiler for the next project and that it explains the plot of SuperM. On his phone we can read "AE" which is another way of writing "A.I."... Artificial Intelligence... Does it mean that some sort of artificial intelligence is being used in the creative process of SuperM ? Or as Tesler's Theorem says "AI is whatever hasn't been done yet" ? But then it could be too vague.. I don't know exactly what all this means, I think we could get more clues by reading about AI. But it's probably linked to EXO et NCT theories, especially the Matrix theory for NCT (i don't know much about EXO theories tbh). I'm waiting for the next comeback to get answers.

I also really wanted the Infinity intro to have made it to the hybrid. Whenever I listen to Infinity separately, the intro just sends me shivers and total adrenaline rush. On my first listen, I was really put off with the key change from the pre-chorus to the chorus because it sounded so weird, but then I found out that it was really weird and was a rather bold change in which I GREATLY appreciated. As for theories, I don't really have much to offer since their powers are kinda vague except for Baekhyun's and Kai's since they already had those powers for EXO. Judging from the teasers, Taemin seems to be the center of the plot, and Baekhyun also mentioned in their One MV reaction that there are a lot of clues in the MV about their projects. He pointed out the flash of the numbers 7, 8 and 9 in the MV, and the fans are speculating that it's about adding more members to the group.

I like One because it has such a strong sense of development. My only problem with Infinity is that with the Intro, we have pretty much reached the most 'epic' part of the song, and after that, it is 3 min + of sustained hype. One/Monster starts out with a much lower energy, and the prechorus 1 in One feels like a great build, where could it possibly lead? And then we get classic K-Pop key shift awesome barrage of Infinity chorus (by this point, I was sold). When prechorus 2 comes in, with the syncopated part, we again loose ground on what we thought the song was, so chorus 2 feels so special again. The bridge is great in every single version that it exists in, classic SM. Then we get the final chorus, and the Infinity post-chorus with higher energy, and I feel like this is where One reaches its peak. And this is why I think the Infinity-Intro was not included: It takes away from the amazing development of the song. I really like Infinity and Monster, but I do feel that the combination made for an indeed stronger song. Since I love songs that just keep evolving and getting stronger, reserving energy for one grand finale, One is one of my top 3 favorite songs of 2020 so far.

I was also confused about the first part of the first pre-chorus getting skipped. It only detracted from the song (and Ten's line distribution). Literally the only difference between the first pre-chorus and the second is that Ten sings the first one, then Taemin sings the second. The only explanation I can think of for this maybe to make the song a bit shorter, but it's only by a few seconds. SM sometimes shortens the pre-chorus like they did here, but I'm pretty sure that when they do, they usually do it for the second pre-chorus (The first SM song that comes to mind that does this is MAX's 'Chocolate', In which the second Pre-chorus is half as long as the first).

I knew it was a thing that SM did frequently, but I'm just confused as to why it was the first pre-chorus that was shorter, not the other way around like it usually is. Especially since they already had it recorded and put in Monster, but left it out of One (They had to have gone out of their way to edit it out for some reason).

I didn't realize before I listened to the album that Monster and Infinity were combined to make One, but I do remember when I was listening to One, I specifically noticed the modulation between the verse and the chorus and thought it was odd because it didn't really feel like it should fit, but it totally made the song and I loved it. The whole song is amazing, and Monster and Infinity are amazing, though between the two, I probably prefer Infinity.

I think One is superm best song. It's magnificent and even tho it's made of two songs mixed together I think it's more cohesive than jopping. I'm sad bc it didn't get all the hype it deserved bc people seem to prefer tiger inside as a title. I think 100 and tiger inside released before weren't necessary bc they kinda killed the epicness of one and the exlusivity of superm

I’m nerding over the chords now, and it seems like they borrowed ii - V from C-major in BOTH G-minor and D-minor? And they’re leaning on the VI (Bb-major) in the pre-chorus, which is the parallell major to G-minor, so I’m starting to see how they bind this song so well together (The C-major is also used in the pre-chorus!) .
