I am not an artist and I don’t think I even have the ability. But, I have always been fascinated by this type of sketches that capture faces. It was a joy to watch the process. I also felt at times during the process that you can almost see how the person would look as they grow older. Thank you for a great video.

The drawing itself and the process are already inspirational. In addition, every stroke carries the artist’s observation and interpretation of the reality. He captured the tenderness and thoughtfulness radiating from her gaze. I ran into this tutorial this morning, and subscribed right away. How magical one pencil can create! Artists and aspiring ones all know how powerful the magic wand is relies on how powerful the wizard is. ❤

I found out this one trick that really helped me get far better with portrait drawings. (from reference ) So you use perfectly flat lines . Only horizontal and vertical. And you use the lines to match up features of the face. Something common is that the ends of the lips will always line up with the pupils. Or when a head tilted one top eyelid will usually line up with the lower lid opposite. Or The top of the ear will line up with the lower eyelid Things like that. Bassicly like a grid tool without an actual grid
@onepencildrawing11 ай бұрын
It's a pretty common method, using grid, however, I like to use free hand more to practice my hand to be able to draw without drawing any lines.
@20gala2311 ай бұрын
Your drawings are strikingly similar to the original. But I still haven't figured out how these arbitrary designs allow you to find the perfect proportions. Does it matter if the design is duplicated in the photo you are drawing from, or is it just for clarity? You are a very talented portraitist, bravo!
@onepencildrawing11 ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for the compliment 🥰 As for your question, you can look up the loomis method to understand the technique, the lines I draw on the original helps me get the proportions and measurements right, you can apply this on any picture you draw and by practicing you'll get it right.

OMG! That model is so beautiful I had to sketch her! FYI, I don't know if it's just me or not, but after I sketch anyone or anything, the world looks different. I see perspective in everything. Car wheels look like ellipses and shapes look more interesting, for example. Kind of like after being on a boat you feel different walking on flat pavement. Not sure how to explain it.

This is excellent freehand drawing. The likeness in the facial features is pretty spot-on. The only aspect throwing me off (a little) is the ear, which appears a bit high. In the photo, the corner of the girl's mouth lines up with the bottom of her earlobe; in the drawing, it's higher. Also, in the photo, the ear is set farther back on the side of the head than in the drawing. Other than that, it's excellent.

That`s great work! I have one of Lumus's books (haven't studied it yet) and in the preface it says: don't try to copy a facial feature or a facial expression of emotion at once, you have to think of the head as a shape in space. It was a discovery for me! I'm not an artist, but sometimes I get the urge to draw self-portraits or portraits of random people. The result is not always clear-cut: it looks similar, but it's not quite the same. In your work I saw how exactly the image is transferred from photograph to drawing, it's fascinating. However, in my opinion, the drawing is a girl in her 20s, whereas the photo is more like a teenage girl. Do you see this too? How do you convey age in a drawing?

If you stopped drawing for long periods of time (months, years), your drawing skills will start to REGRESS. Forget drawing like a. kid, you'll forget how to draw entirely. I can't draw anything on paper these days because the pencil doesn't feel right in my hands anymore, and everything I put down doesn't come out the right way. This wasn't an issue for me when I used to draw in my early teen years. Always practice, even if it's once a day. The stress of life can find ways to take away reasons to do mundane personal things like drawing casually, but if you don't find a way around it, you WILL loose everything you'd learned, in a space of as little as 6 months or 2 years. And if you are like me that was always told and had always imbibed by the fact that they had the "talent" for drawing, this skill regression will hit you the hardest if you let it happen.
This how I started thirty years ago soon ill post mine on here hopefully.
