Even with the extended version that makes it clear Superman didn't kill Zod and crew, I still put 1 a tiny bit above 2. 2 just has too much Lester silliness and random added powers for my taste. They're both still great though.

Your observation of Lois wearing Pink all the time in this movie was brilliant. I have been watching this movie since my childhood and that detail blew right past me. This movie was a oart of the first movie storyline so the emphasis on her liking pink ( and Superman saying he liked it too) IS a great example of continuity. It's organic to Lois' character, and shows her desire for Superman's attention and affections. She went fishing for him professionally and personally and pink was the bait. Great catch.

Superman forgot to put the green crystal back in the console so when the Krypton A.I. disabled the whole place the green crystal went untouched making a super-powers' comeback possible, after all Jor-El and Lara are just machine's recordings.

He wrote early drafts of the two scripts. It was writer Tom Mankiewicz (picked by Richard Donner) who had the most influence over the two stories. Puzo's scripts were actually even more jokey and campy than what ended up on the screen. Tom tried to balance them out and added the more human and dramatic touches with Donner's input.

The reason it would be impossible to get his powers back is because the crystals would be destroyed when the control panel self-detonated. His parents didn't anticipate the master crystal not being in its place when that happened. To see in detail how he got his powers back, go to that same scene in the otherwise-awful Richard Donner Cut of _Superman II_ featuring Marlon Brando. If they'd included it in the theatrical cut, they'd have had to pay Brando millions more dollars.
@dan_hitchman007
@dan_hitchman007 14 күн бұрын
Brando was upset with the Salkinds for firing Donner. He was contracted for both films, but raised a stink when Donner was kicked off the project. Even Reeve and Kidder didn't want to return for Superman 2 reshoots with the new director, Richard Lester, but didn't have the industry clout of Brando and were obligated to return. You know it's a Lester scene when Kidder is wearing the bad wig and looks really thin.

Richard Donner filmed most of both movies back to back. He was supposed to complete filming and the producers had a falling out with him. So they replaced him with another guy. That’s why the Zod story arc fit into this. It was already intended from the beginning. That’s why the first 2 movies are so alike in style vs. the next 2. There’s a Donner cut of this movie. One thing lost on the original Superman is that even without his powers, he is from a planet with much higher gravity, and is just plain stronger than any human, even if he can't fly. The original intention of the first two movies was that, in the climax, Superman would have taken the nuclear missile, exploded it in space, freeing the Krypton villains, and creating a cliffhanger for the sequel. Then in this one, Superman would have done the time reversal that ended the first film to make Lois forget his identity. Indeed, in the reconstruction of the Donner cut, they repurpose that ending again. Basically, when Donner got fired midway through making the second film, the editors made the first one self-contained, and then Richard Lester brought in his own people to put his own stamp on the second.

Donner's would have been really great had he been able to fully produce all of the footage he was intent on filming and polish in post production.

Great reaction as always. If you want a better explanation as to how Superman got his powers back, then you should check out the "Donner's Cut" of Superman II. It goes into detail more about how Superman got his powers back. It also has an alternate ending, added scenes, and altered a few scenes here and there. You see when this film was made, it was originally shot back to back with the original Superman movie. Richard Donner was supposed to direct both films, but due to budget cuts, they fired him halfway through filming "Superman II." Hence, you ended up with a lot of footage that wasn't used in the final theatrical cut of this film, and the new director took the film in a different direction which is the movie you just reacted to. This led to a lot of people for years demanding Richard Donner have his cut of the flim released, and decades later WB finally had him finish his cut of the film. While most would argue it's not exactly what Donner wanted considering he had to use a lot of old footage from the original theatrical cut to finish his version, but it's fairly close to what he originally envisioned. You should check it out if you're interested. I won't spoil the Donner Cut for you, but I will put it to you this way. You remember how Jor-El said, "When the son becomes the father, and the father becomes the son?" Well, lets just say you'll get what that means more if you watch the Donner Cut. That's all I'm going to say. It's up to you if you want to watch both "Superman III" and "Superman IV: Quest For Peace." I personally think you should just skip those and head right to "Superman Returns" after you watch the Donner Cut of this film. However, it's up to you. If you do choose to watch both "Superman III" and "Superman IV: Quest for Peace", then I wouldn't expect much quality out of those two considering they really slash the budget on those films. I would go into more detail, but I don't want to spoil it for you if you decide to watch them anyways. Great reaction as always.

As amazing as Christopher Reeve is, let's not forget that Margot Kidder also plays two very different characters in these movies. In an interview at the time, one of the producers (or maybe the director?) said that she was the only actress who understood the secret of being Lois: she's a hard-nosed, fairly unlikeable, career-obsessed b*tch with pretty much everybody else (including Clark), but a swooning, besotted schoolgirl where Superman is concerned. This is pretty accurate to the comics of the 1930s and '40s, and Kidder switches between the two as seamlessly as Reeve switches between Superman and Clark. Nice little twist on the whole theme of dual identities.

Most fans are divided on which Superman 2 movie is better .... the Donner cut or the Theatrical version. For me I prefer the theatrical cut but only just. In the Donner cut theres different scenes with Lois finding out about Clark. Also more scenes of Superman and Lois, love scenes. But you will find a more clear reason as to why Superman got his powers back in the Donner cut. But the ending of the Donner cut kind of ruins it sadly. But defo check out the Donner cut when you can.

There are deleted scenes in the original theatrical cut in superman 2 that were taken out later so many folks today are not aware of them but they were shown in superman 2 was on the big screen in the 1980's that makes the movie better and this is not even the donner cut.Those scenes could be found online for example.

Excellent reaction I can answer the question for you because I have the DVD with deleted scenes. One of them shows at the bottom of the Fortress when he throws them down there they go to a portal back of the federal zone instantly and then you’re right they should’ve added the scenery. You could power back, but it was the main green crystal because all the crystal were in their holders when the chamber destroyed them all but what was he looking at the main crystal? That was the one that built everything Fortress had all the battle, coffee wall and knowledge in the crystal so she didn’t put it back in the holder if she had destroyed there be no hope but she didn’t so he was able to use the back of copy in the crystal to restore everything. He didn’t even fly. Remember until he’s always father in the fortress after he visited krypton for three years before he left for the first time that’s why they always power back in the cut. It’s much better. They show you how it’s powered that is not the green crystal this time so anyway, daughter cut story goes with your daughter was hired by the salt kinds. They owned the rights to Superman movies and which your daughter decided to make him one and two at the same time from back to back And they’d be done at the same time putting them out right away but for some reason, everything is going well 90% done but it’s all kinds we’re afraid of spending too much money cause nobody seen anything yet one was not yet so they want to release one first and then see how it didn’t box office and then finish too so they fired your daughter hired Lester, who is a common Direct for the most part not a bad director but just different but because the director is the rules he couldn’t just take over like that you have to have more of the phone so that takes some stuff out. Add some scenes with the cast didn’t like it for the most part they were behind Richard daughter they didn’t like how they Replaced Done at the last minute because they had to delay their other pictures that they had signed up for to finish Superman too, so Jean Hackman wouldn’t come back. Neither would Whill Brando so they had to use the body from our brain for Jean Hackman and use his voiceover for the superman too and then For four dollar brand they used superman’s mother instead instead for those scenes and then people found out about it because the actors were complaining about it. They didn’t like how you got fired at the last minute Jean didn’t like it. Nobody did so they complained and the fans found out about it. They wanted to see the movie so in 2006 when they’re gonna hold for the next Superman movie, the Superman returns starring Brendan Ralph he does known for playing the grim and the grim TV series. He’s a very good Superman. He tries his best to be as much like Christopher Reeves as possible, and because the way they filmed submissions. It was a sequel to the release of Superman is a direct sequel to that movie. It acted like three and four never happened with most Superman fans. Wish they could do it too because even though Christopher Reeve was a good actor in Superman three and four, the script were terrible three starred Richard Pryor with Christopher Reeve and four was just passion project of Christopher Reeves against nuclear weapons, even worse than three but a real superman friendship pricey anyway you might like it but anyway so to celebrate Superman returns they put out the Donner cut to celebrate Superman returns in theaters so it’s released on DVD and in theaters. It was a good movie too. It was the Don that was good too they gave him some money to finish the movie when they found out that Don was rehired. Jean Hackman said you can use my likeness again so he came back to the man too, and even my brain came back to finish shipment too to do the scene he wanted to do the first time the one they couldn’t do was they couldn’t finish the end ending. You not have money or time to put the ending that he wanted to do. He couldn’t use the Lester ending of theatrical version because Lester wouldn’t give permission to use it and he didn’t have enough time ending so he had to use the Superman one ending over again, which is cheesy but other than that’s a good film because I’d rather if I had my choice, I would to combine the two versions together you can fit them together into one good movie but they won’t cause the directors can’t stand each other and will take too much time and effort, I think editor could do it in a couple hours, but you know what I know I’m not a filmmaker, but they’re both good movies. They should both be seen by Superman fans so the way I see it is the order should be Superman Superman two Superman two Donald Superman returns Mayor of steel then Justice league if you’re gonna see Justice league by the way you see the Zack Snyder cut of the justice league trust me is much better. I know I’ve got a long hair brand new a big fan and the worst people day that is just the same movie but it’s not. They’re a big difference in both movies one in the dark the reveal of Superman is much better done much better and then the way the trick Superman tried to rescue her is done much better than in Niagara Falls. Trust me you have to see it. I’m not saying it’s not good I’m just saying I think it’s better. You should see both and decide for yourself. I mean there are things I like about their theatrical release. I like the part for college. Where are they going to the phantom zone in the bottom of the fortress? I like that part I like when he plays the game with the holograms so that’s why I would combine the two versions but there’s no hydrogen bombing in Paris. What happens is when Superman throws the missile you know space from Superman one that’s supposed to destroy the her mothers house in Jersey. That’s what freeze the from the phantom zone. It’s right at the end of stupid men want to leave the end of Superman one nuclear missile freeze them from the phantom zone that’s how part one ends and two begins in the Doner cut. I hope you’ve seen Superman and Willis the new show on CW. It’s very good. They have them married and have kids their powers. Lux Luther is very good and the ending is very good. It just ended after four seasons. It was very good and I hope you also seen boys and Clark the new adventures of Superman from the 90s with Dean King as Superman and Tara Hatcher as well as the things I ask about is Clark is not an idiot. He’s a nice guy. He’s not a bumbling fool. His twin parents are alive with the whole show. They help me out with everything in romance and love and eventually I’m married. Have a wonderful relationship, but Lex is of course obsessed with Lane in that show. It’s excellent. Hope you get a chance to see it. I don’t mean on your channel per se when you could if you want to, but you definitely see it yourself as a Superman fan if you haven’t seen it I know you said you wanted to see Batman and I’m down for that. I will Batman especially the Michael Keaton Batman. I’m I’m in minority. I don’t like the drug network Georgie I like Batman begins, but the other two were too dark for me. I’m from the days of the super friends that’s why I come from. I’m not opposed to it. I just prefer Michael Keaton version better that’s why I said the one good reason to watch the flash movie because they show Michael Keaton Batman in that version and that is worth seeing that movie alone just for that one part trust me, Michael Keaton still got it after all these years it’s like no time has passed and that goes right after Batman returns. It’s excellent. It’s the best part of that flash movie. I’m sad because I think most people won’t see it and that’s a good stuff. She take many returns. People don’t see any because because Kevin Spacey played with he played good luck too but because of the troubles, he’s having now people avoid that movie that didn’t exist, but it was a good movie so I went wrong but I know you’re a big fan. I wanna make sure you have everything there is to know about Superman DC I love DC and I love your presentation. Very fun. Thanks for the fun until next time.

Gabby I totally enjoyed your reaction! You are BEAUTIFUL, and your presentation is incredible! Just beautiful, and I love that you include Scripture in your channel (I am Scripture Man after all)! You're right that this movie feels like it's missing a few scenes. That's because the producers wanted to save money so they hired a new director halfway through filming. This means that many of the scenes shot for this movie aren't included here (including Zod and squad getting taken away by the police at the end). As for HOW Superman got his powers back, there was a huge, epic deleted scene involving his father (played by Marlon Brando). It's SUCH an important scene, and crucial to the plot. You can watch this in "The Donner Cut" version of this film. We all love the first 2 Superman films. For me, these are the only two good Superman films. Most fans hate the other 2 films. They were made by different teams and they are just nowhere near as good as the first two films. They feel really cheap and badly written, and they don't have the heart and sentimentality of the first two films. Although Christopher Reeve is always charming!

Alot of people complain about Clark erasing Lois's memory but to be honest i think he's done an unselfish thing and to keep her out of harms way which i feel todays superhero movies and television miss the point of. Superheros have secret identities for a reason. I know there's people in the comments telling you to skip 3 and 4 honestly don't listen i recommend checking those out especially "Superman IV" which i know this will be an unpopular opinion but one of my favourite of the Superman movies maybe it's because its the first Superman movie i watched as a kid but it's still enjoyable fun if you dont study the plot too hard.

The creators were Jewish. In the beginning, he borrowed more from the story of Moses. Later on, he got to be more of a Christ figure, so you're correct that he's similar to Christ but it came later on.
