I actually really liked the New 52 Superman. Him having human flaws really grounded him to me and made him more appealing. Something that people always complained about Superman (him not being human enough). I wish he was given a chance to flesh out more.

No, It wasn't just that as the hate came in long before the whole issue of Superman being powered by Kryptonite. The New 52 Superman wasn't bad but the writing of the character didn't do him any favors.

The problem with new 52 superman for majority of fans wasn't that he was flawed or more human fallible, it's that pre-52 superman that we're getting back now is flaw made his mistakes went through several different stages of self-doubt. that's what makes him the most human new 52 superman was a bit of an Agro dickhead who only became humble after losing his powers. He constantly fought the military and the individual members of the justice league and in his own right kinda of became more Batman that's not right.

Yeah the New 52 Superman had flaws and if you want to relate to that, thats fine. But I think the pre-52 Superman was easier to relate to and was also someone to look up to because he had the motto to always do the right thing, even if no one is looking. I relate better to Superman because he represents the everyman or common folk. Going to their day to day job, same problems as everyone else, trying to get the girl you love to recognize you. All that good shit.

Thanks so much for starting in on DC. I have a feeling you wanted to wait for the crossover for material but with it being a new Squad member, it's great to see the rebirth coverage earlier than expected. This reboot is lively and interconnected and while Marvel is vibrant and dramatic, I'm finding myself pining for story and continuity. which DC is offering. As a new hardcore reader I am one of those interested in the death of 52 Superman, especially if it sheds light on the new Clark Kent, too.

I really love this. I'm glad they brought the old Supes back, I'm glad Jon is going to replace him in the next 20-ish years, like Damian eventually will with Bats. It shows DC is ready to change some of their characters, or at least will eventually. I like the Supes Jr. Costume too. I think what they're doing to merge the old with the new is fantastic.

It kind of allows the reader to still enjoy and love the superman we know but be able to resonate with a character bc we understand that (even though he's great) even Jon has to look up to superman as this kind of perfect can do it all guy when he can't himself.

My theory Mr. Oz is Ozymandias from Watchmen he's working with Doctor Manhattan (whose powers have been weakened on account of his giant blue wang being covered) to do to the DC universe what they did to the Watchmen universe. Multiple Crises, multiple reboots -- I'm sick of DC (and Marvel) starting over and giving us new characters that are _almost_ the same as the ones who came before. IF DC wants me to believe they're really the same characters, stick to the versions we knew for so long (I'm 67, so I've known most of them a looooong time), including the iconic costumes. What sense is a super-belt without super-trunks? (Side nitpick regarding Batman: either put back the yellow ellipse around the bat-symbol or change the color of the utility belt. A flash of yellow anywhere stands out, and Frank Miller explained the ellipse by making it a more bullet-resistant reinforced "target" drawing criminals aim away from his face and other, more vulnerable areas. And yeah, if Batman wears a belt he needs to wear trunks too.) Oh, and quit inventing new powers for Superman! That super-duper-amazing "flare" just felt wrong to me, like something belonging to Captain Atom (or Johnny Storm) but not to the Man Of Steel. Give Superman his well known core se of powerst, establish limits on them, and stick with that. If you absolutely have to give any character a brand-new (or increased) power, let them struggle a bit to master them, similar to how Clark did on *Smallville*.

I've had a complicated relationship with Superman lol I mostly collected the event issues, because I always found him to be to boring a character, to good, to perfect. How powers are awesome, villains great, but I felt the character lacked the depth of Batman and Marvel characters. So when the New 52 began I actually enjoyed this new take on him a lot, I liked him with Wonder Woman instead of Lois, it all seemed fresh and interesting and he was not perfect, he had a lot of faults and was more in line with Batman, really enjoyed their shared comic too. Thanks for this video as I heard he had a son and while this is the 'old' version of Superman it at least seems somewhat interesting so far. Might be time to give him another go
