I want to see to original cut to this film and many others do too. This film needed something like this. I love the fact that there is no speaking in this and it’s just all visual.

I understand why they removed this scene, but it also adds a layer of depth. Just like Krypton was corrupted with kryptonite, so Luther will establish a new corrupted Krypton. Whereas he was too weak to face the Kryptonite on his home world - or save his home world from it - at the end he saves earth by powerfully defying the kryptonite island.

This scene also explains what Bill Shatner was saying about space: vast, desolate and death-like. The isolation is palpable. And light doesn't bounce off anything unless there are gases nearby and a planet has an atmosphere. The lighting is appropriately almost flat. The light reflects off of our moon but it is still flat.

This scene is so dynamic. It is very soulful. No music...like in parts of 2001. And the whale sounds and water sounds give an impression that the ship is alive or at least responds to Kal-El with a type of A.I. that no one understands...not even the film writers (lol). This scene also debunks Lex Luthor waltzing into the Fortress of Solitude and commanding the crystals to form from the command platform. These crystals are tied to Kryptonian DNA and brain patterns...specifically Kal-El's...the Star Child. There is NO WAY that Jor-El would not have thought of this so as to protect Kryptonian technology from falling into the wrong hands. Superman Returns falls apart for me at that part, and never attempts to redeem itself, with a Superman that was too slow and stupid (or maybe he was just dumbfounded at what he say and heard) Anyway, this should have been the scene that they kept. It explains a lot with less! It only needed to be fleshed out a wee bit more and this would have made the movie come alive in ways that dialogue and music could not. And it quite describes Krypton as it once was...majestic, incredibly technologically advanced and fundamentally ALIEN. And the "sounds" of silence compound the feeling of loneliness and possibly...for the first time in his life...real despair...at the realization that he is truly alone (before he discovered Kandor or Supergirl---a joke to me at least).

Davida Williams Luthor walked into the fortress in the original first 2 Superman movies. I don't think he would've been able to operate the control console but he could definitely walk right in & maybe steal a crystal or 2.

What I would have done: He arrives to Krypton looking for survivors, only to discover from the Kryptonian data-banks he wasn't the only one to escape to earth. He comes back to earth to search for the mysterious other Kryptonian, only for the plot with Luthor to play out first. (And of cause we introduce Supergirl in the sequel). I think that's what Singer should have teased in this scene. As well as some sort of Villain tease too.

There was no substantial reason for Kal EL to somehow obtain a Kyrptonian-type ship -- seemingly out of nowhere -- to investigate the area where the planet Krypton was destroyed -- seemingly caused from the explosion of their red sun (if you saw the first Superman film). If the red sun had indeed exploded, there would be nothing left of Krypton except some molecules and gas. This would include the destruction of Kryptonite, an odd element that apparently existed inside the planet. Like everything else out of which the planet was comprised, Kryptonite should have been vaporized along with everything else. In reality there should be nothing left of Krypton, literally nothing. The fact that Kal El could take a ship and zoom around the debris is absurd. Okay, maybe he (Superman) had no way of knowing nothing was left -- although he could have surmised as much and was curious, but this seems dubious as best. A lot of time could have been used by skipping this rather lame excuse for his absence and concentrate on more intriguing matters.
@colliric3 жыл бұрын
He had repurposed the ship that initially took him to earth as an infant. Problem is this scene doesn't tease anything. I would have had him go back to look for other survivors and tease his return to Earth in search of Supergirl.
@randaljbatty3 жыл бұрын
@@colliric Kal would not know anything about Supergirl, as he was sent to Earth as an infant. Would any "survivors" of Krypton still be hanging around a bunch of debris? No, Superman returning to the vicinity of Krypton really makes no sense. It's a nonsensical way to have him missing for a period of years. They could have come up with a better reason for his absence.
@colliric3 жыл бұрын
@@randaljbatty That's my point. I would have had him go back there to access the Kryptonian data-banks in search of other survivors. Instead of scientists discovering Kryptonian debris, it should have been a strange Kryptonian radio signal instead(a warning to the Kryptonian outposts that the planet had been destroyed). Indicating the data banks survived the destruction. I would have him discover he wasn't the only Kyptonian that escaped to earth. Although fans would immediately know that it's Supergirl, I would not reveal that until the next film. After defeating Luthor, he departs at the end of this film to search for the other Kryptonian. That's my main issue with this scene, it doesn't tease anything at all. Like the first movie with General Zod, it should have been the sequel hook sequence. I would have loved for it to have teased Supergirl, and also retcon that crappy previous Supergirl film from the 80s.
@randaljbatty3 жыл бұрын
@@colliric We agree. Superman needed some greater motivation to travel back to the remainants of Krypton than mere curiosity. By making this visit, he forfeited -- what -- five years of life with his mother, with Lois. The motivation needed to be very compelling. They could have emphasized that he needed to go back for emotional reasons -- such as visiting the grave site of his lost loved ones. That might have worked ... I don't know. Something. Yes, the Supergirl film was crappy but I was rather smitten with Helen Slater and disregarded any semblance of a plot.
@davidawilliams2522 жыл бұрын
@@randaljbatty you are absolutely right. There is no justification for Kal-El to come back to a dead, 3/4 disintegrated planet. And its actually 6 years...if they would have used the technology of the first movie, Kal-el would have gotten there in 3. Then it would have taken him 3 years to come back to Earth.
