When you consider that later in the film he lifts an entire island - while weakened by Kryptonite - you realized that the major problem he had with this plane was how to stop it without crushing the whole thing like an eggshell and doing so in a way that did not kill the people inside. BTW, I love the bit with the woman inside the plane seeing Superman on the wing. At that point, she was the only person on the plane who knew they were probably going to survive.
@toddkes58903 ай бұрын
One stunt Superman could do is press lightly at tens of thousands of locations all across the plane, using his superspeed. This would provide a low point stress but also a large total pressure.

The best bit for me is that when the wings breaks off and he tumbles back and ducks under it, before flying off after the rest of the plane, he looks at the wing just to make sure that it's not falling anywhere dangerous. Because while Zack Snyder's Superman was a hot headed cynic who caused as much destruction as he stopped, this Superman actually thinks about what he's doing and prioritises saving lives.
@Author-Chad_Kunego29 күн бұрын
Part of Supes power is a form of tactile telekinesis. It's how he's able to lift all the stuff he can without breaking it. Like the boat scene. If he was actually only using that one anchor point to lift the entire boat, it should have sheared off due to both the weight of the boat and the weight of the water inside the boat. There shouldn't have been any type of damaged caused by Supes lifting that plane. Not even sure the wing should have fallen off either, based on the protective field Supes gives off at all times. Heck, even in this scene, if he didn't have that field, when it went to set that jet down, it should have sheared out of his hands before he managed to set it down completely.

I hope thats sarcasm, because thats ridiculously impossible. The passengers only experianced G forces slowing down at the end even though it had slowed by several hundred kmph in a few thousand feet, that woupd have been several g's all the way down, all focused through a flimsey nosecone which only collapsed at the end abit, such forces needed to slow it that much so quickly would have shortened the entire aircraft several meters at least, and everyone inside would have been squashed by that assuming the g forces hadnt already killed them. And i didnt even mention how that carbon fibre held up to the shuttles main engines, when in reality they would have burned that entire tail section off instantlt, killing them from decompression, or the fact it goes into a flat spin which would have torn the aircraft apart or the fact the shuttles main engines managed to fire without a big ass fuel tank to feed them, and i could list several other things which were impossible...
@OldMan8544 ай бұрын
@@christianbuczko1481 not sarcasm. He was gradually slowing the plane within the structural limits minimizing the g-forces until the very end where more force was needed. And the ripples are exactly what happens when compressing a tube which is basically what an airplane is. ITS A MOVIE. @@christianbuczko1481 Superman did gradually slow the plane, but you're right that the nose cone isn't designed for that. It would've crushed far more thoroughly than shown. Even Superman lowering the plane by the nose would've broken it in half.

What is true, is that no form of travel has a lower casualty rate for passengers than flying does. However, that's because while trains have an even lower casualty rate among passengers, trains also have casualties that are not passengers, like stalling a car on a railroad crossing.

Hey supes, buddy, the spaceship had no problems per se, and was quite capable of managing its own flight once you lifted it off a touch. That airplane IS your only objective. ;)

Superman's super strength is probably not just the result of his Kryptonian muscles, but also his specie's ability to manipulate gravity.

It's in a flat spin. Correct it by pushing on the tail, not the wing. The radome on the nose of a jet is fiberglass or thin aluminum, structured only to take a bird strike, not carry the reactive force of stopping that much inertia. He should have flown under the wing center section and just guided the plane to a sea landing.
@Commando1104 ай бұрын
I’m not defending this scene as your are correct but the only logical conclusion I can consider from Superman’s point of view is that he saw the shuttle do significant damage to the tail and probably thought that it would destroy the plane if he tried it from the tail section. Honestly the writers just did a crap job on this.
@FP1944 ай бұрын
The tail had just taken the full thrust from the engines and was on fire and most likely weakened from the heat The wings are made to take far more stress than the tail Watch the bending test on an airliners wings and you will see how much they can take

Dude…. It’s a movie.

i'll just blame it on superman never being much of an aviation expert nor a structure engineer. He just grabs for what appears to be spinning untill it snaps, then he tries grabbing something else. An aerospace engineer superman would recover the airplane entirely intact, minus some slight scorching on the tail

Tail was already compromised so I kind of let that slide.

I'm all for suspension of disbelief but good gravy. Putting a bunch of civilians on an orbital rocket launch test flight?

Not civilians, Reporters...they're expendable

Or having 2 systems totally fail while rocket sequences can't be stopped? That's one in a trillion.

@@baloog8 The scene where they failed to override is reminiscent of Challenger disaster. The crew knew, by 72-second mark the engine would throttle up to its maximum of 109%, and the computer had detected low fuel pressure (oxygen fuel leak). However, they knew there's no option to saves the situation, they couldn't detach the Orbiter because the Contingency Abort procedure hadn't been introduced yet. Consequently, at the 72-second mark, the engine failed, and the Orbiter disintegrated.
@baloog84 ай бұрын
@@putty-e2872 I understand, but in this scene, the majority force that caused failure was the liquid rocket and not the unstoppable solid boosters although in reality I doubt any connection points can survive the g forces anyway.

There was a lot wrong with this scene but there was a lot that was fantastic too, Really sums up how even the movie as a whole was. Personally, I like to think those fighter pilots went full on fangirl into coms when the saw Superman closing in.

If Superman was at sea level to catch up to the plane at 40K feet traveling ~660mph when it broke the sound barrier he’d had to travel at ~1,020mph to catch it in about 1min 😳

Just realized Superman was show boating. Maximum fall speed is typically 180 mph. Let's be rediculous here and say the plane was falling at 600mph (nearly the speed of sound). In 1978 Superman Flew around the earth to go back in time, about 660 million miles per hour. In other words Superman didn't have to at 6:55 try to get to the front of the plane with just enough time to eventually catch it and slow it before hitting the ground. He basically dragged his feet, eventually got to the front and made sure it all stopped a few feet from the ground in the middle of a full stadium. Why not get under it's belly like he did the shuttle, change it's trajectory and literally carry it to an airport?
