The Death of Superman is a 2018 American animated superhero film produced by Warner Bros. Animation and DC Entertainment. It is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, and the second animated adaptation to chronicle the battle between Superman and Doomsday. It is the 33rd film in the DC Universe Animated Original Movies and the eleventh film of the DC Animated Movie Universe.
Superman has become a hero to the residents of Metropolis while infuriating the billionaire Lex Luthor, who considers the hero a threat to his city . In an attempt to kidnap the Mayor, Intergang - armed with Apokoliptan technology, including the Mother Box - are foiled by Superman; he and the Justice League send the recovered devices to S.T.A.R. Labs for analysis. In an interview with the Daily Planet’s ace reporter Lois Lane, Superman presents the rocket that brought him to Earth from Krypton and its birthing matrix, containing Kryptonian DNA technology to the world. Lois is in a relationship with fellow reporter Clark Kent who, unbeknownst to her, is Superman’s alter-ego. Despite meeting his parents Jonathan and Martha, Lois remains apprehensive of Clark's secrecy. His reluctance to reveal his past makes Lois reconsider their relationship.
At S.T.A.R labs, Dr. Silas Stone and Dr. John Henry Irons determine Intergang’s devices contain both Apokoliptan and Earther elements, leaving only one suspect with the means to synthesize these technologies: Lex Luthor. Superman confronts Luthor, confined to house arrest, who denies any involvement. Meanwhile, Superman admirer Captain Hank Henshaw leads a team of astronauts aboard the space shuttle Excalibur when a boom tube sends a meteorite hurtling towards the shuttle. As Henshaw waits for Superman's rescue, the shuttle is destroyed, leaving Henshaw's body unaccounted for. The meteorite crashes to the Atlantic Ocean floor, monitored by Luthor’s underground research facility. Luthor escapes his house arrest with a decoy and sends a deep sea exploration team to the crash site. They encounter Atlanteans, and both groups are destroyed by a monstrous humanoid that emerges from the wreckage.
The monster reaches the U.S. coastline and murders two campers and a grizzly bear before rampaging against the police. The Justice League arrive and are brutally defeated, but the Martian Manhunter’s telepathy reveals the creature to be a living weapon designed to annihilate entire civilizations. As the monster heads for Metropolis, Batman notes that their last hope is the Man of Steel. Meanwhile, Clark and Lois meet for lunch at a restaurant owned by Superman fan Bibbo Bibbowski, where Clark finally reveals himself as Superman to a shocked Lois. The two resolve their differences, and Clark receives the Justice League’s distress call. He arrives just in time to save Wonder Woman from the rampaging creature.
Lois, reporting live by helicopter with her cameraman Jimmy Olsen, dubs the monster "Doomsday" as his fight with Superman rages through Metropolis and reaches the Hall of Justice. A battlesuit-clad Luthor joins the fight against Doomsday, aiming to become Metropolis’ “true savior,” but he is incapacitated and saved by Superman. Realizing the toll the battle has taken on Superman, Lois attempts to sacrifice herself to Doomsday to force Clark into using lethal force. As the beast prepares to kill Lois, Superman hurls himself at Doomsday - he breaks the villain’s neck, but is fatally stabbed at that moment, and dies in Lois’ arms.
Jimmy broadcasts Superman's death across the globe as the world mourns. After a state funeral for the fallen Man of Steel, the Kents welcome Lois into their family. Jimmy brings Lois to Superman's mausoleum where they find his coffin open and witness a figure resembling Superman fly away. At S.T.A.R. Labs, an exonerated Luthor tries to gain custody of Doomsday's corpse for Project Cadmus before being denied and told that they are going to place Doomsday's corpse into a rocket and fire it at the sun. A moment later Superman's rocket self-starts and flies off.
Four mysterious figures are introduced during the ending credits: First, as numerous failed Superman clones are destroyed at Cadmus, the sole surviving prototype escapes. Second, Dr. Irons forges Superman’s symbol onto a suit of armor. Third, a Superman-like figure watches as Superman's rocket buries itself under the North Pole and terraforms the Fortress of Solitude. Lastly, high above the Earth, a cyborg resembling Superman arrives.

The 1990s series *_Lois & Clark:_*_ The New Adventures of Superman_ handled this right. The Dean Cain Clark Kent never once wrote a story about Superman. He let Lois get that scoop, He landed a job at _The Daily Planet_ the legitimate way, the _hard_ way, in a way that his powers were little help with (well, vision powers and such do help at getting to the bottom of a story). He legitimately broke an unrelated story, wrote it up, and submitted it to Perry White who was impressed and hired him. Another cool thing about that series (at least at first) that also applies to the newest TV version, the wonderfully animated (anime style) _My Adventures with Superman,_ is that in both cases, Clark Kent was wearing glasses _before_ he got the idea to take on a costumed identity as Superman. It was never revealed why in _Lois & Clark,_ but I hope that the forthcoming second season of _My Adventures with Superman_ touches on this, since its version of Clark was shown wearing glasses (otherwise dressed like the comic book Jonathan Kent, son of Superman, when he was the same age: about eleven or so) when his powers first manifested in the pilot. Why would Clark be wearing glasses _before_ deciding to use a costumed identity? Why before his powers even manifested? Only one reason I can think of: _he actually is nearsighted!_ (For a Kryptonian, anyway.)

@TheMarioBro07highkey that’s why I felt My Adventures with Superman was so refreshing. Everyone claims to get bored of “good normal dude” supes and want invader Superman (Nolan from Invincible) or egomaniac who knows he can do whatever he wants (Homelander). And I love both those shows. But it is annoying that people claim good ole kind chill Superman is one dimensional or boring.

I always thought that glasses trick was exagerated until I realised some of my collègues would say hello twice if I tie my hair and change shirt... Superman Birthright is a 10/10 modern origin story that perfectly summarizes how Clark's actually an amazing actor as well as a hero lol The glasses are super think to hide his eye colour, parts his hair differently, shifts his jawline to de-mphasize his cheekbones/chin, wears baggy clothes and slumps his posture badly to appear portly instead of ripped, talks in a higher pitch, and in general acts like the meakest and boringest person in the entire city. All of these combined portray two vastly different people.

@COMALiteJ
@COMALiteJ 2 ай бұрын
Dean Cain didn’t do that in *_Lois & Clark:_*_ The New Adventures of Superman_ in the 1990s. I think that that was one of the best reveals ever. I also like that only that version of Clark so far as I know managed to get the _Daily Planet_ job _without_ interviewing his superself. He let Lois get that scoop. He got the job investigating some minor crime, and without using his powers. He wanted to _earn_ the job using only his reporting talent, not his super powers nor identity. Another interesting thing common both to that series and _My Adventures with Superman_ is that Clark was wearing glasses _before_ he decided to become Superman. While, in a later season, the 1990s series contradicted the pilot episode by having Clark refer to the glasses as part of his disguise, I thought that they missed a golden opportunity, and hope that they do do it in the newer cartoon. Ask yourself: why would young Clark wear glasses _before_ deciding to wear a costume as Superman? In _My Adventures with Superman,_ we see him about 11-12 years old when his powers first start to manifest, and he’s already wearing glasses _then_ (he’s drawn at that age to resemble the comic book Superman’s son Jonathan Kent, who’s since been aged to adulthood by some time portal thing-even the clothes he was wearing were the same!). Only one reason and explanaton comes to mind: _he actually is nearsighted!_ For a Kryptonian, anyway. Before his powers manifested, he was nearsighted for a _human_ - maybe something like 20:100 vision without glasses. Once they manifested, well, I figure Kryptonian eyes, once powered by yellow sunlight, grow many more, and much smaller, photoreceptor cells in the retina, vastly increasing their resolution (like the difference between a modern HiDPI display and an older LCD monitor where you can easily see the individual pixels at normal viewing distance). This manifests as “telescopic” and “microscopic” vision, but it’s really just heightened resolution and resulting visual acuity. His eyes don’t actually have zoom lenses. But his myopia is still there, and still blurs his vision over what it could be. Coupled with the higher resolution, maybe he doesn’t need the glasses anymore to have “normal” 20:20 vision, and it may even better than normal: 100:20 or so. But _with_ the glasses it’d be more like 500:20, meaning he could read print from 500′ feet away that a 20:20 normal person would have to get no more than 20′ away to see. So, telescopic and microscopic vision (X-ray and heat vision are something else).

For all the “How could Lois be fooled by a pair of glasses?” people, it’s really not that hard if you think about it. Because Superman doesn’t wear a mask, it’s reasonable to assume that he’s not trying to keep his identity a secret, and because there’s always something going on somewhere in the universe, it’s reasonable to assume that Superman is on duty 24/7, and doesn’t have time to work a job or hang out with friends. Unless you suspect that Clark is Superman, he’s just a guy who resembles Superman.

Also in this movie in particular, it really hammers home that even though Clark is very secretive, Superman is actually very open with some parts of his personal life. “My name is Kal El. I’m from a planet called Krypton. My family sent me to earth as a refugee. I live in a place called the fortress of solitude.” Considering that, when you meet someone and they tell you about themselves, why would you then assume “I wonder if he also has a secret name, career and family that he’s not telling me about in addition to what he’s already told me.”

@@aaronmalay5497 I like Reeve's version of Superman/Clark but in the real world taking off glasses wouldn't fool anyone that sees you on a regular basis much less a prize winning reporter. Comic book characters like Superman are absurd on many levels if you dig into it. The reason why we tend to ignore all the silliness is because we become emotionally involved in the fantasyworld. It's almost like joining a cult for a bit. Given our brain accepts the idea some guy shoots lasers out of his eyes, and can fly the speed of light using no discernable form of propulsion, we, usually, ignore these sorts of far more minor details like glasses.

One area where the character design falls short is that Clark also styles his hair differently when he’s in “mild-mannered” mode. It’s not just the glasses by themselves holding up the whole disguise. Also you gotta remember that it’s not like he’s walking down the street or running errands in his Superman costume. His normal every workaday existence is as Clark. Nobody has reason to think that guy that talk to at the water cooler who kinda looks like Superman actually IS Superman.

There’s a reason for that. This Lois is a seasoned, veteran reporter and less of a hothead-with-betrayal-issues, and she’d been dating Clark for what seems to be months or years. She’s known Superman for at least that long, if not longer. In My Adventures with Superman, Lois is much younger, much more viscerally offended by anyone keeping secrets around her, and has known Clark for like three weeks. There just isn’t any built-up trust for her to fall back on.

Doppelgangers are a real thing. In high school, someone just came up to me and continued a conversation he had with his friend from the other day cuz we apparently looked exactly alike. Same thing could apply to Superman and Clark Kent but in reverse, people just think they look alike.

The glasses thing isn't too far-fetched. I've been at my job for years and am close to a lot of my co-workers. I recently had to start wearing glasses and on the first day that I came in wearing them I was walking through the building and quite a few people asked me if I needed help and did a double take when they would realize it was me but only in glasses.

I always wondered if a comic or one of these films would ever try to tell us that the glasses were enchanted or something. You know, like a time traveling Zatana or something stumbled across teenage Clark and realized she was always meant to cone along and cast a spell to protect Superman’s identity ir something like that. I never got into comics, but i figured someone would do something like that at some pooint?

In the comics, it's said his glasses are kryptonian technology and prevent an unintentional reveal of his identity.

Then, you don't understand what Lois is to Clark. In the show Smallville, Chloe says to Lois : " he's gonna need you to ground him" Lois is Clark's anchor. Whenever Lois dies, Clark loses completely his mind.
