Thanks for the sub! And yeah it wasn't a simple task, I'm already dreading the amount of legwork I'll need to put-in for Batman!

I recall when John Byrne redid Superman's origins he made that the Kents were isolated by a snowstorm for month and claimed that Clark had been born to Martha while alone with her husband at their farm.

This is true, one of those things that got a little fuzzy with the various continuity rewrites so I wasn't sure on whether to include it or not.

I believe Kal-L is also the name of superman for the original newspaper strip appearances
@crwhitwickАй бұрын
That's true! The newspaper strip, though a separate continuity, premiered in 1939 when Superman's Kryptonian name was still Kal-L prior to the change.

Definitely could use a retooling!

I don't know. I feel like it was meant as a "last gasp of 'Old School DC'" and always treated it that way. Lol

I noticed in Lois's first appearance she complains that she's assigned "sob sister" stories, sentimental stories that would appeal to women.

I looked it up and I believe I confused her with Brenda Starr, another 1940's female reporter.

@42:43 Lor Zod's origin story was written in part by Richard 'Dick' Donner! You know? The director of Superman the movie! That story is awesome ^_^ *Kisses his hardcover version*
@crwhitwickАй бұрын
Ooh interesting! Always loved Donner's Superman!

@37:10 and ruining the then happy go lucky Justice League that didn't contain any of the main 7 (Well okay Martian manhunter was confusingly masquerading as Blood Wynd at the time for some... reason). Also Guy Gardner is a boss! He takes on Doomsday half blind AFTER being punched in the face by him when Clark described Doomies punches like getting hit by a building!
@crwhitwickАй бұрын
Gosh power scaling is so weird! Gardner takes a shiner from Doomsday and keeps on ticking, meanwhile Batman lays him out with one punch!

@36:45 Yeah it was a bada bing alright. Lois clocked Clark for lying to her... a much more realistic response to finding out your boyfriend had been keeping THAT big a secret from you if he truly loved her...
@crwhitwickАй бұрын
Yeah there's definitely an argument to be made of when in the relationship somebody should tell their partner that they're actually a superhero/supervillain. I spoke with a few friends and the consensus was "when you realize you want to propose to them, reveal your identity at least a couple weeks before you do it." Which I think is a pretty good rule tbh.

I never understood how the blades would break like that. It's unlikely that Lois would have that much strength in her hands.
@crwhitwickАй бұрын
Y'know, that's a good point! If anything, the scissors should've broken either at the handle or the hinge. Super (pun not intended) weird that they broke in the middle of the blade.

@36:18 I humbly disagree. Clark having to use the kryptonite from that pocket universe on those villains defined his character afterward! At the time DC mandated no multiverse versions of Earth so to fix it, pocket universes that collapse after their story were allowed. The Matrix version of Supergirl also comes out of this story and she alone has major importance later! My point being though... Clark vowed to never kill again after that. Those three had committed genocide of the entire population of that pocket Earth they came from and were going to do the same to OUR Earth (Well New Earth anyway). Clark made the same decision that anyone in his position would have to! They were punished according to their crimes. Clark even banished himself away from Earth after saving it because he felt the weight of his decision which led to a VERY solid policy of never killing again. Even a Xenomorph! The killing machine with two mouths and acid blood! Clark punched it into unconsciousness! My point being tl;dr Post Crisis New Earth Supes' defining character moment before the story 'Superman vs the Elite' was THAT story! Super Important!
@crwhitwickАй бұрын
You make a very solid point. Superman having a no-kill rule wouldn't have as strong a precedent as Batman, for example. But giving him a strong sense of shame and regret at having done it previously definitely gives a stronger foundation as to why he would have that kind of moral code in the future. However, Superman is meant to be the ideal, the paragon that other heroes look up to, and I feel like him being judge/jury/executioner in this instance really colors that perception. I suppose I'm conflicted about it.
@Xaviernisan9 ай бұрын
@35:02 That's Post Crisis Clark's birthing chamber. That is a very important detail to skip over! Post Crisis Clark is essentially an American AND an Earthling because HE WAS BORN HERE! That version of Jor-El sent his and Lara's combined fetus to earth in a birthing matrix and Martha and Johnathan Kent find a new born Clark and raise him themselves. No shenanigan's aside from being an alien this time!

@22:54 Pink Kryptonite isn't canon. That writing team had Matrix / Fire Angel Supergirl Marry Silver Age Supes... The one that got erased by the Crisis... That didn't exist anymore in that continuity... Those last issues of that run of Supergirl were published because someone lost a bet... because Holy crap noone at editorial would have let that final bunch of issues slide even 3 years later. And we all thought the Silver Age stories were weird... The only other thing I can think of in DC continuity flux that was dropped and forgotten THAT hard was the Hawk God merger post Zero Hour. Who the hell disliked Carter Hall that much? How did he hurt you? And did you HAVE to take Hawkgirl with you on your hate erasure venture?
@crwhitwickАй бұрын
While the canonic validity of pink kryptonite is tenebrous, the story it comes from is TECHNICALLY in-continuity. While sure the reality of that continuity got erased, and presumably pink kryptonite along with it, it still existed to an extent. So I felt it worth mentioning, alongside the painted rocks.
