As someone who's playing guile in SF6 I 100% agree with Sajam at the start. I feel like I have to hit the punch for my boom before I even start moving the stick or else I get a regular boom because I do the 'proper' charging method of immediately going down back again.

It's because Ryu can't make anything happen without burning bars. Fireball lameout doesn't work in this game, and Ryu's conversion are mediocre without meter.

I think he's fun to play too. I know some people think he's boring or whatever. I get that, but I played him all weekend in the last beta. I've been thinking of climbing to Master with him, and watching these videos seals the deal. Although, I placed Platinum with him on day one lol. Not bad but not great either. Haven't touched him since partly out of shame.

On the talk of themes, I think I generally prefer the stage themes over the character themes in this which is slightly sad for me to say. Only one I really "love" is about the 2nd half of Manon's. Most others are either slightly liked, okay or a strong meh to me. Guile's theme could be swapped with the jungle stage theme and it'd probably fit right in imo lol.

@@TheSpokenBanana I'm not gonna lay out a tier list here, but I'd have Jamie,gief and JP's in slightly liked. I'd lump most in the okay category though. The only themes I'd say I truly hate are kim's (both of them) and Juri's. Most don't really stand out to me, but in most cases they are inoffensive. Like even though I mostly skipped 5, I still enjoyed a lot of the music. Even on the note of gief I prefer his 4 theme.

It just feels like Guile does not have the same damage potential that JP has, and he basically has to work his way in. It's just a super odd match up. I'm always trying to figure it out

Yeah, 100% agree. I don’t really ever get the sense that the JP has a huge advantage over me (Guile) in any particular position or situation, but it also feels like there’s no time or place in the match where I can maintain any significant control or even be particularly comfortable. I’ve been having trouble establishing very clear answers or dependable tactics or reliable counter-play to anything, so I always feel like I’m sort of just constantly fumbling around and hoping for the best… but then the odds that things actually work out in my favour seem fairly okay?? I’ve honestly been scratching my head trying to imagine what this matchup feels like from JP’s side.

guile has better normals than JP and that's how you win the matchup. There's little JP can do against a rushdown guile.

I've been playing fighting games for years and the only charge character that I've ever buckled down to learn is Terry and he's barely a charge character. Charging just isn't intuitive to me, so it's impressive to me that you can just sorta swap into a charge character with minimal growing pains.

Can anybody explain Guile's design to me as a zoner? He doesn't have keep-away vibes he looks like he is gonna stroll up and beat the shit out of you with how jacked his upper body is. Guile's whole mantra as a military man is about efficiency and not doing anything that isn't necessary. That translates in-game into him becoming a character that strips away all the excess and doubling down on the basic SF concept of "fireball, anti-air". That's why historically he's only had those two special moves

On the topic of the OST, I frankly feel like it's incredibly damning of Capcom's sound team that the themes we got are so bad and people would be happier with yet another remix of the classic themes that have been run into the ground over the course of quite literally 32 years. The fact that they can't come up with quality new themes for the characters is kinda upsetting to me. Capcom's sound team used to be legendary, and now the best tracks in modern Capcom games come from outsourced musicians (which there's nothing wrong with and frankly a lot of the industry has moved onto freelance music studios for various reasons blah blah blah etc etc this is besides the point). Like, I don't know why they put together CAPJAMS and then seemingly don't use them for the games? The SNK New World Music Performance Team isn't just the people they get to play live events sometimes, they're the primary composers and musicians for all SNK games. I just don't understand what happened here.

I think their music in other titles are constant bangers too, and SFV was chock full of sick music. This game trying a new style was cool, but I wish it was full of winners you know. It's definitely my biggest gripe overall.
