@@sarahwales6276 don't take it LITERALLY, I'm describing her attitude when she was a new model, she & Kate Moss etc are "anti-supermodel" or they don't want to b branded as such which is ironic because she has all the goods to be perfect mannequin and loved by almost all haute couturiers

The fact that Shalom Harlow starts out this vide by VOGUE MAGAZINE discussing how she was anti-corporatocracy in the early 90’s made me almost spontaneously combust out of joy and made me love her even more, which I never thought possible!

Gosh, this was one of my favourite Life in Looks so far! Thank you, Vogue! I’ve always loved Shalom because of her ultra feminine camp-sassy-fierce catwalk and maneirismos, but I am truly awed to see that she is also so articulate in her words, astonishing. Didn’t know it was she on the McQueen iconic rotating platform painting thing.

I love Shalom as a model but there’s nothing revolutionary about having a brunette on the cover. Brunette Christy Turlington had 51 Vogue covers prior to ‘96. Linda Evangelista was brunette in her first 17 covers by Bill King, Eric Roman, Patrick Demarchelier, Irving Penn, and Steven Meisel - all before 1991. And Gia Carengi had been on the cover of Vogue five times since the late 70s. Beverly Johnson who is both brunette and a black woman graced the cover of Vogue in 1974! Naomi Campbell was on the cover 25 times by the end of 1995, and that’s without mentioning Iman, Gail O’ Neil, or Donyale Luna who appeared on the cover of Vogue in 1966. Just saying. I don’t think this interview does much to make Shalom very likeable. She’s clearly got some narratives about her role in the industry going on and she seems a little snobby here. Sorry.

Sorry but not sorry (I mean I feel same as you- I actually made similar comment). All these pettiness- firing stylist, being brunet on cover, model as a muse, supermodels etc.
@llumdivine Жыл бұрын
I totally agree. Somehow she thinks she revolutionized the industry by being brunette in a vogue's cover or by lifting her arms while walking or by wearing Jacobs in the 90s .... Like... come down girl... you were just one more who were below the top 5 Super models of the 90s.

@@nv2605 I’m really disappointed in her. I’m not even sure how Amber, who seems very grounded, can have a relationship with her if she’s like this all the time.

@@nv2605 Saying she got someone fired with a smirk says so much about her values. I don't doubt that the stylist was not up to par, and helping to improve the look of the film is an accomplishment, but it seemed less about her contribution and more about her power to get rid of someone she considered less than. Too bad.

7:18 "we were the antagonists as usual because we were beautiful". Yeah, that was not a reason. Her face just suits the cold, cunning, elegant character and she can also play it convincingly. I would say that protagonists are at least as often if not actually more often played by beautiful actresses and actors. Film producers want audience to be charmed by a leading character, to like them and to sympathise with them. And we subconsciously associate beauty with goodness. And despite our attempts there really seems to be a beauty bias- even in the courtroom, physically attractive defendants often get lighter sentences than others.
@Joci445 Жыл бұрын
yeah, kate hudson is the lead in the movie she's talking about. who is undoubtedly beautiful, but in a more approachable, relatable way. Especially when compared to someone like shalom harlow, who has a sort of untouchable beauty. hollywood rarely puts someone who genuinely sits outside conventional beauty standards in leading roles. its always beauty, just different types of it.

@@Joci445 Monica Potter was actually the "regular girl" lead in Head Over Heels. Kate Hudson was not in it. But your point stands, because Monica is also beautiful but was a more relatable type. It's like how they'd always cast the very pretty Janeane Garofolo or Ally Sheedy as the "outcast."
