I feel like society has created this expectation of women (and some men too!), that we are supposed to look flawless 24/7. We’re not allowed to have pimples, dark circles, wrinkles or texture. And if we do we should hide it with makeup. But then we also shouldn't wear too much makeup! And if we look like real human being with imperfections? Well then we’re just not good enough. That’s what the magazines and social media would have you believe anyway. We have instagram influencers and famous people posting fake ‘no makeup’ selfies, in flattering lighting, probably with makeup on anyway, and then the selfie is edited too. It’s not wonder we can develop a complex when we compare what we see in the mirror to what we see online.
If you feel like you only look beautiful with your makeup on then I have one thing to tell you. Your face is your face, whether you have makeup on or not. Therefore if you feel like you look good with it on, then you look good with it off too. Yes i’m going to look different if i have an entire face of glam makeup on - but its still my face. Makeup is not plastic surgery. If you feel good with your makeup on, then feel good without it too, because you’re beautiful.
I’m not ugly without makeup, and you're not ugly without makeup. But do you know what is ugly? Our society and the ridiculous unrealistic expectations it puts on us.

It’s because they literally are brave for that. When Rihanna did it, she opened herself up to some horrible, degrading comments. Knowing the internet is the way it is and being that public and having the thick skin to deal with that is hella brave in my opinion. Whether it should be brave or not - that’s another story. It shouldn’t be brave because you shouldn’t have to deal with people like that and we should all just be kind. But society is society so I think it’s still brave to a degree even if you’re stunning without makeup. One person insults me and it ruins my whole day. I can’t imagine having that amplified the way celebrities do.

It sucks we’ve crossed the line that women showing bare unfiltered faces or unshaved bodies get called ‘brave’ but honestly it does need some courage to do that. Also, in another comment, someone was talking how they were obsessed with make-up, but at some point just tried stopping and instead use skincare products, and after a while, they now are truly better looking, naturally. I just wanna say this: I’m a professional make up artist, I’ve worked on photo shoots and trust me, when they say “no makeup” on the cover of a magazine, it means that there’s makeup that average people can’t see (and also a lot of editing). YES. 100%. This is why I think it's actually really sneakily harmful when people talk about needing makeup or not. When we say things like, "You're so pretty, you don't need makeup." Yes! And not to mention a lot of people saying how much they love guys with like messy hair or just in sweatpants or whatever casual clothing. There’s nothing wrong with liking the way people look in casual clothes, but girls are usually expected to dress nice and wear makeup everyday to look “good” while guys can walk out of the house without brushing their hair and wearing whatever they found on the floor first that morning, and no one says a thing. No one expects guys to dress nicely. In fact, I saw some guys come in at work and I thought it was odd that they were dressed nicely. Guys don’t even have to try with their appearance to be acceptable to the public and some of them have the audacity to criticize girls for not putting in that 110% everyday.

I used to enjoy Photoshop a lot as a teenager. It was kind of a hobby for me to choose random pictures from the internet and turn them into “beautiful”. That was also when I learned that whenever you see a closeup of a face, they airbrush the entire skin and then put fake pores on it with a photoshop brush, so it looks natural but flawless.

A few years back I got into Korean skincare so that my skin would be in good condition and I'd feel more confident without makeup on. Rihanna and Alicia Keys show up makeup free regularly and they look gorgeous. Yesss sometimes our skin can go through rough times, but we can find skincare routines that can be game changing. Some have more cooperative skin and others struggle more due to many different factors such as hormones or allergies. You are right no one is absolutely perfect; We all have to work hard to look our most comfortable. But no one is necessarily ugly without makeup, thats just a social ideology. I interpret it the same way, the difference being: I don't care what they think. If someone makes that comment to you, chances are they're trying to be hurtful. If they're trying to hurt you, they're not really your friends, and if they're not even your friends, why do you care what they think? If they're just being mean, then you probably don't even look bad at all, they're just taking a jab at your insecurities. Aaaand, if they're simply oblivious to how hurtful they are, then just forgive them for it, they don't intend to hurt you. Besides, if you ever need to fake sickness for a day off, just show up to work without make up! points you, lol. I say all of this in good fun, btw, not trying to belittle your feelings; it's the reasoning I go through to not let things get to me, is all :)

I live in France and grew up in America. I've worn makeup since I've been a young teen, where I live far from a big city, most girls never wear makeup other than for special occasions, and sometimes I'M the insecure one for wearing makeup when others don't feel the need to!! I only wear make up once or twice a year (for wedding or other special occasions) so I'm and others are used to seeing me whiteout make up and I often feel beautiful enough. (sure I have pimples and dark circles under my eyes that I don't like but if there are not so recognizable or I just don't pay attention to them). @@joannecendana It was a great time for me to grow up then as I was a teen throughout the 70's and even the men were just who they were. No tight skinny jeans, just tee shirts and flannels....long hair but still they looked rugged or manly. Even celebrities like Kay Lenz back in the 70's was just naturally pretty. We didn't have all these contouring products, different eyeshadows (mostly blue is what we had) and I guess it showed girls back then more natural as very little makeup was worn.

I’m constantly told how youthful I look, I told how great my skin looks, I’m constantly thought of as younger than I am, a lot of people think I am in my mid-20s and that makes me feel great. I dont edit my youtube videos (there no filters for YT... yet!) you can use very obvious beauty airbrush filter on your editing software, but I do not. I wear makeup in some videos, none in others. Makeup washes off at the end of the day and I enjoy it! I was a professional makeup artist for over 7 years, it's an art for me and self expression. xx

I've never worn makeup.. Except trying it once as a teenager... Hated it.. Never again not even lipstick.. Not even to party's.. I've never even tried to dye my hair.. (I love being natural) if I need to look pretty, I just do my do my hair, use jewelry and wear pretty clothes.. I also have my own style.. Never followed fashion.. Love to be different. Even though I'm shy and have social anxiety..🙃

I’m a dash out the door kind of woman! I like a bit of brow powder when I can be bothered. Sleep and lots of water gives me a nice glow,in my twenties I’d wear shadow and mascara, now I only wear mascara once in a blue moon, I feel too much makeup washes out the skin and I can’t imagine what happens to delicate skin if all these layers of makeup are constantly stripped daily. I’m glad I didn’t start getting into makeup very young...

Its because sexism is ingrained into our society. Even if people don't outright say these words, these ideas of how we are somehow uglier without makeup and should be wearing it, stem from the idea that a woman's worth as a person is determined by how physically attractive she is percieved by those around her, and that we should for some reason strive to be considered attractive. Why? Why are we taught to base our self love off of the validation of others who look to unrealistic beauty standards to set their opinions?

Im in my 20s and never EVER wear make up, it's just doesn't make me feel good or comfortable. Where I live its more common for women to not use makeup than to do, but my friends wear mascara and liner every day and I dont know how the hell they do that.

I have also been told I look sick without eyeliner by other women, I was told I looked like a “cancer patient”. I’ve never had a guy tell me anything about my appearance without makeup. Not all men are terrible and only attracted to looks and not all women are trying to build other women up.

Even tho I have just seen this video today...ur message is 💯 true. The advice my mom has always given to me is: makeup should only be used to accent ur true beauty. So I am 50yo now and have only used foundation 3 times (it made me break out terribly)my entire life.. I have only used shadow and liner and mascara(no false lashes) and lip liner with tinted gloss. I don't have perfect skin but when people look at me...sometimes they ask if I am wearing foundation. I have never been crazy extreme about skin care either. I am not the prettiest girl but I do get compliments. I do feel good about myself with or without makeup. You just have to be comfortable in ur own skin...own it and not let anyone put you down. They are attacking others to build themselves up. I think you are beautiful with or without makeup. TY for ur video...sometimes we all just need a reminder. 🥰

Once a dude in a Discord channel was saying makeup is "false advertising" so I told him hey, you can wear it too. If you think it's so unfair then start learning how to use makeup so you can look flawless too. He would most likely be a proponent of being who you truly are instead of covering up. Men don't want to wear makeup to 'even the playing field.' Thank you for educating people through your videos! Thing is, people will find a way to be mean or have a negative comment/opinion even if someone is damn perfect, so, either way, their opinion doesn't matter & shouldn't be taken into account in such ways to feel bad about yourself. I feel like there was an air of her looking down on anyone who wouldn’t also do it, or you know ignoring the ways in which she was privileged to feel comfortable enough to do that I remember she suffered with acne in the past and is very happy to go makeup free now that it’s gone. which is great for her but the way in which she seemed to push the agenda while her skin is now lovely fresh and even toned, it’s not as ‘brave’ as it seemed like it was being portrayed

@@aoki556 I was just about to comment this. She struggled with acne and acne scarring for years, but went “makeup less” once her skin had cleared up. She is gorgeous regardless but, let’s be honest. She also does wear a bit of concealer at times, so she’s not completely makeup-less.
