I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, and there was a local one-third mile track that would host the supers a few times a season. This was in the 70s, and the cars would turn that track in 11 seconds, on three wheels, because they had so much torque they would twist the frame so far that the left front was airborne. The sound of the engines was nearly painful. That was real racing!

I was down there once from Vancouver island Canada crewing for a friends Imca modified I had the headset on for communication to the driver when racing but I never knew I had to run from the pits to the grandstands where all the rear race spotters were standing. The stands were so packed I had to climb up the side of the grandstands after someone told me to go there . 35 degree sun and I was sweating bullets. It was still worth the heatstroke I got afterwards lol

@@naughtmoses...b Bullshit. In the begining of Supermodifieds at Oswego they were sprint cars, ex Indy cars ( front engine) they had rear engine supers , 4 wheel drive supers and home designed / built with every shape/ style imaginable. Jim Shampine created the 18 inch offset wedge car that became the standard. If they so called kicked him out it wasnt for being too fast it would be because of weight, tires and other rules saying no center driveshaft sprint cars that weigh 300 or more lbs less and different wheelbase. On a short sprint race the 1200 to 1400 lbs sprint cars that run softer tires would be quicker by a tenth or two seconds from the weight and tire advantage but a longer race or bigger track the super would prevail. They are made from the same componets just chassis is different geometry and fixed wing plus big nose wing not allowed on supermods.

Ugly? Surely that's a matter of opinion... These things are the most bad ass cars on any short track lucky enough to host them. Watching them pull the left front wheel off the ground going down the back stretch is a site to behold. And that sound...my God that sound when you see em live..there's nothing like it.

I loved when the Super Mods came to Cajon Speedway in El Cajon Ca back in the 90s. We ran IMCA Asphalt Modifieds there. I worked on my cousins crew. They’d do an open wheel night when the Supers were in town so we got to race those nights. I will never forget Davey Hamilton was the man. Held the all time track record at Cajon. (Its an empty lot now 🤬) I think it was a 13.5 or something insane on a 3/8 mile. Our mods ran in the low 16s. 3 seconds slower on that little track. 😲

Love these beasts So exciting power monsters . Used to be common up here in Ontario Canada . My Dad and brother had glorious times watching these years ago . Expensive division to run , delicate machines . People should be more aware of this type of spectacle . The economic $$ problems of racing is slowing depleted a great deal of competitor’s . So sad The audience should really try to soak all this in . Missing the “ Supers in Canada 🇨🇦
