Yes, the death of Charlie was one of the most painful turning points in this entire series. Charlie was hands down the bravest person on the show, had the greatest amount of personal and ethical integrity. It was clear that the Styne family member was going to kill her whether she gave them her notes or not and she knew it. She fought bravely to the end. In every sense of the word, Charlie was the sister that Dean and Sam never had. Wait till the next episode when Dean goes after the Styne family. Remember that he's carrying the Mark of Cain with him. You can do the math on what happens next.

Charlie's death is one of the scenes I rememeber so clearly from my first time through watching the show, it was just so devastating. It also serves as a stark parallel to S9, in which Dean did whatever it took to save Sam, and Kevin ended up dead. This season it's Sam trying his hardest to save Dean, and Charlie is the one who ended up paying the price.

I've been excited and dreading your reaction to this episode. With all the spoilers I had when I watched this the first time a little while ago, I knew that would happen in this episode, it didn't make it any less painful though. I still really enjoy the episode (one of the few ones I have rewatched yet, maybe I just like to suffer). Rowena's "I barely know the man" was kinda hilarious though.

I just rewatched this episode today & It hurted me again. So I'm with you in this. Charlie didn't deserve to die. This episode had everything & it was going great until that bad decision, but not only for no more Charlie but also my heart breaks for all of them. Doing their best but they keep being hit with losses. I hated the writers for that & I'm still doing it. None of them deserved to lose Charlie & Charlie didn't deserve to be killed like that. Few years later & I'm still upset for this. Higs for you Shelley!🤗

I think they wanted a real consequence for the Winchesters constant messing with things they don't understand and not caring about the consequences. At least I've always been a bit annoyed that they always seem to escape those consequences.
@patrickmcguire78962 жыл бұрын
Dean did care about the consequences. It's why he told Sam not to look for a cure
@patrickmcguire78962 жыл бұрын
The issue is that the writers make it so the only way the Winchesters can kill a big bad is to do something that has major consequences, and they go through with it because the writers literally give them no other choice. For Sam to kill Lilith he needed demon blood, but that lead to Lucifer For Cas to kill Raphiel he needed the souls of purgatory, but that lead to the Leviathans For Dean to kill Abaddon he needed the Mark but that lead to this There was just no other way to kill them and they would've killed the Winchesters when given the chance. In this show in order to kill something powerful their is always a price to pay
@Soulsphere0012 жыл бұрын
@@patrickmcguire7896 I do agree that Dean does, in this case, care about the consequence. Especially now, since it hits very close to home. I suppose that's all true, but even the prices they pay tend to be fixed in some way. Sam getting out of Lucifer's cage, the leviathans being defeated without much consequence, etc, all tend to be dealt away at some point. Granted, some of theses are more easily fixed that others.

The writers had a terrible habit of killing the Winchesters allies near the end of the season or making them indisposed so the brothers would face the finale threat alone with no back up

Literally hate how things went down in this episode. I was absolutely in denial after seeing the end scene when I was binging the show cuz I love Charlie so much and I just couldn't wrap my head around the idea that they'd kill her off so I immediately proceeded to the next one hoping she'd be alright, like Sam and Dean would rush her to the hospital or call Cas to heal/bring her back to life since he's fresh from regaining his grace BUT... the freaking episode opened with them preparing a freaking pyre and I was like "hell naw I can't continue wasting my time on this sh*tshow without her bye spn you suck" (tho Castiel is my ultimate fave character). Well obviously I was being dramatic, I didn't give up on spn but I stopped watching it for almost two months lol. So many deaths in this show but hers was the one that impacted me the most. It also reminds me of Tara's death in BTVS. Extremely unnecessary. I was so mad! And you know the interesting part is they both died horribly and they have #that other one thing in common... 🌈 PS: Shelley has finished the whole season on patreon so my comment doesn't contain any spoilers ✌️

Secrets secrets secrets. This is the biggest price to pay for their secrets. But it's hard to say what you would do. If you were them. Dean wouldn't let Charlie help. Sam saw she was the expert. No one knew this would happen. But it's another good discussion. What would you do?

@Goomyx14922 жыл бұрын
First, I HATE Charlie's death so much. It's still the one death I don't forgive the show for. That said, a lot of people like to make claims of misogyny on the part of the writers for killing off the female side characters. I have a big problem with that take, which is that the writers seem to like killing all the side characters sooner or later. It's not only the women that are killed, it's pretty much anyone that takes screen time away from the brothers - which is the real problem imo. Cass I guess gets to be the exception. It's just interesting to me because Ash, John, Bobby, Kevin, and others have also died and people just pretend that didn't happen I guess.
@patrickmcguire78962 жыл бұрын
Agreed on both fronts, Charile's death wasn't a gender thing its just what the writers do to fit the horror theme of the show. But the writers also liked killing characters off to make the brothers feel more isolated so they would face the season's big threat with no back up. You notice how they nearly stopped introducing new recuring characters as the seasons went on and killed or dropped other characters that had potential? Season 7 we had the most new ones introduced, Garth, Kristy, Charlie and Kevin and now their gone, Jodi stuck around the longest probably because they could always come up with an excuse for her not to be at the final battle
@iamlinda1002 жыл бұрын
the thing is the male side characters tend to last longer on the show than the female characters, yes characters like John, Bobby and Kevin were killed off, but only after they've been on the show for quite some time. Whereas the writers on SPN were much quicker to kill off its many female characters, and I do find that quite misogynistic.
@thegingergyrl4552 жыл бұрын
No, I don’t like this. I always get very upset. Shelley is me the first time I saw this. Why indeed. Charlie will always be my favorite female character besides Baby.

Charlie Bradbury is number 3 in my list of favorite female characters on the show she definitely deserved better
@arielsteinsaltz19562 жыл бұрын
I've been dreading your reaction to this episode. Killing Charlie was an unforgivable decision on the part of the writers and furthers the extremely misogynistic undertones of the show--remember they opened the show fridging Mary and Jess in the same episode. At a con someone asked the writers why Charlie had to die and Jared and Jensen both turned away like "you're on your own answering that one" because they know. It was BS. As far as blaming Sam a lot of people do but I think that denies Charlie her own agency. Sam may have had a bad plan but Charlie made the decision to go along with it and the (very out of character ridiculous) decision to leave. It's just poor writing choices all around and one of the most egregious fridgings I've seen.
@Goomyx14922 жыл бұрын
Oh here we go with the "misogyny" claims. I would agree with you if they didn't kill every single side character sooner or later. Male, female, they all die eventually. I guess Cass being the exception? I think the bigger problem with the writers is that they can't seem to handle any other relationships happening other than the brothers. Ash and John both died before any big female side characters. I HATE that Charlie died, but it bugs the hell out of me when people seem incapable of acknowledging that all the male side characters died too...heck they even had the gall to kill Bobby so I mean, no side character is safe, no matter their gender.
@tumbleheart46642 жыл бұрын
They didn't kill any male side characters? You know, you're right, the show is completely misogynistic because it wasn't about two sisters. Fuck this show because the main characters a male and not female. It totally doesn't show any strong female characters.
@grydon64222 жыл бұрын
If no characters die, there is no threat or stakes, ehich in turn makes the show dull. Charlie’s death is a good thing because it shows characters can actually die, there is a threat. One of the things that is loved ablut game of thrones is the fact they werent afraid to kill off main cast, yet here people are bitching about a side character dying years later because they liked the character. And they are calling the writers decision ”BS” while letting that shit out of their mouth.
@SoupBoi962 жыл бұрын
god shut up. this whole "misogyny" bullshit argument is so damn stupid. if you didn't realize, both genders are constantly dying off in this show.
@arielsteinsaltz19562 жыл бұрын
@@Goomyx1492 But Bobby was basically a regular before they killed him off. Charlie appeared in 7 episodes. They develop the male characters a lot more before killing them off than they do the women. And even later in the show they introduce more semi-regular characters who are still all white men. It’s a pattern.
