I think they brought the Stynes in to show how invincible the Mark has made Dean, this centuries old indestructible family was wiped out so easily by one man and he barely had a scratch on him. It shows how dangerous he is and confirms what Sam has been saying this whole time, he needs the cure. My favorite episode of this season 😮‍💨

While I agree with I also agree with JerBear that it might've been better if the Stynes were in more episodes. And Dean did know he was dangerous and needed to be cured but he was worried curing him would make things worse, but yes that Mark need to go

Cas was supposed to fight back but Misha thought hurting Dean wouldn't be what Castiel would do in the moment, and they chose that Cas would try to stop him by not fighting back and it really played into the Castiel/Colette parallel with the Dean/Cain parallel.

There’s a lot of thoughts I have on this episode and while I hate supernatural for killing Charlie, this is still one of my favourite episodes of all time. Cas not fighting back at all when Dean starts fighting him kills me every time I watch it. Also what makes my shipper brain kind of insane is that Cas/Dean are a perfect parallel to Cain/Colette here. Cain mentioned in an earlier episode that all Colette wanted for him was to stop and during the fight all Cas is asking for is for Dean to stop. I don’t even care if the parallel is intentional or not but it makes me go insane every time I watch this episode

I think, since little buddy (Cyrus “Cy” Frankenstein or “Styne”) didn’t want anything to do with his family, let’s not loop him in with the rest of his family and list him separately on the memorial list at the end of the season. Poor guy wasn’t evil like the rest of them and he didn’t want to be linked to them.

Crowley may have been an easy target for all of Sam's anger amd guilt, but Sam had a point. Dean is marked BECAUSE of Crowley. He tricked him into it and all of the problems since then can be traced back to him.

Dean beating up Cas is heartbreaking but what's most surprising is he didn't kill the Sheriff for breaking Baby. He's more likely to do that with or without the Mark

Silly Crowley thinks we don't know why he didn't kill Sam: as long as Dean has the mark, he can't. Dean would take him out in less than a heartbeat if Crowley killed Sam.

That and Crowley likes him too. Yes he was pissed off with good reason and made sure to let Sam know just how pissed off he was but because he liked both him and Dean he let him live. If it were anyone else they would have been dead in a heartbeat.

I really liked this episode. When Dean killed the 2 guys at the end, I was like oh snap! Lol. I feel like Cass could have fought back a little. I get confused towards the way he gets beat up sometimes lol 😅

I always wondered why Cas & Sam didn't help Dean kill the Stien family. The Stiens were a threat and already went after the brothers, so they clearly need to be taken care of regardless if their technically human. And killing them before Dean might keep Dean from going over the edge.

14:05 I just hate how Sam pits all of the blame on Crowley. Who’s the one that brought Abbadon to our time? A Winchester. Who are the ones that dug her up and put her back together during the trials? Winchesters. I’ve seen some people say that Abbadon was more Crowley’s problem when discussing the Mark but to be fair she was also Sam and Dean’s responsibility. Yes Crowley did know about the mark and what it can do but he also knew it was their best shot of keeping Abbadon from creating Hell on Earth. I don’t hate Sam or Dean, not at all. However they can be very irresponsible when it comes to freeing or awakening a powerful supernatural being, the being killing or torturing a lot of people, and then Sam and Dean either kill the monster, make peace with it, or imprison it again. Sorry for the rant, I’ve thought of this for a long time and needed to get it out

I agree, I also brought this up in my own comment. I don't hate or blame the brothers for it though it is an annoying troupe, them accidently awakening a greater evil in order to stop their current threat. That's how it was in season Sam needed demon blood to kill Lilith, now yes that would unleash the devil but they didn't know that and if they didn't kill Lilith she'd just keep killing people and eventually the brothers. Same in season 6 the only way to beat Raphael was for Cas to consume the souls of purgatory. If he hadn't Raphael would've killed the brothers and undo their good by restarting the apocalypse, unfortunately this lead to the Leviathans. You see what I mean. While Crowely is in no way a good person he doesn't deserve all of the blame for the Mark

One thing that I’d also like to add is how the show paints these actions (demon blood, purgatory souls, the mark) as “stupid,” “impulsive” or just “bad” but at the time what other options was there? It wasn’t clear at the time in season 4 if normal angels could kill Lilith and since they couldn’t match Princes of Hell in season 12 I’m betting Lilith could take them down easily. In season 6 Death may have been able to kill Raphael but Cas had zero leverage and so more power was the choice. In season 9 Crowley knew that the only thing that could kill a Knight of Hell was the first blade with the mark and Abbadon needed to be taken down. Maybe an archangel could have killed her but with Gabe presumably dead, Raphael dead and Michael and Lucifer in the cage this was the only option. Did all three have unforeseen consequences? Sure but every action has consequences, just depends if they work for you or against you.

Dean with The Mark of Cain is stronger then any angel demon or God that you have seen up the season 10 in the show. Demon Dean could even beat Lucifer and Michael at the same time. If you're wondering why the mark so strong you will find out later.

Cain vs Michael and Lucifer can go either way. Mike and Lucy know they can never truly kill him, so they would have to resort to their angel powers to somehow disable him permanently, like locking him in Lucifers cage etc. On the other hand, if Cain can get in close enough to use the first blade, both the angels are dead.

Sam vs Crowley is pointless but insightful. Sam's anger towards Crowley is misplaced he's more mad at himself. Part of it is the guilt over Charlie's death but more so because he knows Dean feel 10 times as worse and 10 times as guilt ridden as him. Plus their the guilt that all of this was to cure Dean but up till this point though Dean was suffering he was able to manage the Mark but Sam knows that Charlie's death will be the catalyst for Dean to go over the edge. As for blaming Crowley for the Mark, that is also pointless, they needed the Mark to beat Abaddon there was no other way and if the Gadreel thing hadn't happened Sam might've taken the Mark because Abaddon rising to power is unwittingly the brothers' fault and they both feel obligated to fixing it regardless of the cost. Also Crowley is the only reason Sam was able to get his brother back after he became a demon. Really Sam just wants to kill something to make himself feel better which I get but making Crowley even more of an enemy might not be the best move.

Crowley killed Sarah, that's enough of a reason for Sam to be angry at him. Crowley helped Sam get demon Dean back because it served his interests, he was afraid that he couldn't control Dean anymore. That's a good point about needing the Mark so they could beat Abaddon, but at the same time, it means Dean turning into something that would be just as bad as her, eventually.
