Fun fact (not a spoiler): the reason why Sam can rattle off the exorcism spell like that is because Jared studied Latin in school (he was a bit of a nerd, much like Sam). So, he can just spit out the Latin like nobody's business. Jensen struggles with it, so they just wrote it so Sam is the one good at memorizing Latin spells. As for Jensen, he was the one who volunteered to eat in scenes (something he regretted later), because he foolishly thought "hey, free food!" He didn't take into account how many takes he would have to do... (oops!) and that's why we often see Dean scarfing down food (I think they like to torture the boys sometimes).

I love that there's an obvious difference in Sam from the last episode. He was willing to go with Ruby's plan with the spell and having to kill Nancy to do so. Before Mystery Spot, he *never* would've been okay with that, he would've condemned Ruby on the spot for even suggesting it! But then he went six months without his brother, doing whatever it took, becoming a shell of a person, and things have changed and he's willing to do whatever it takes.

Most people don't realize the damage that 'Mystery Spot' did to Sam. Watching Dean die in practically every possible way and then "psych! he's really, really dead!" shifted him mentally into a whole other plane where he realized what being without Dean felt like and the lengths that he would go to prevent it. Yeah, its easy to say that he knew it was not Bobby, but still can you imagine the mental state you have to be in to (brutally) kill someone who looked/spoke/behaved like your second favorite person in the whole wide world? This is also the point in the series where Sam starts to go quiet... and that is never a good thing. In fact a lot of reactors commented on his quietness in "Jus in bello"... All in all, not what the Trickster was hoping for I'd think! These two episodes are almost like a 2-parter from the view of Sam's mental state.

Sam memorized an exorcism rite. They first used it on Meg in season 1, but Sam read it from a book then. As you can see, having it memorized is very effective because he can send demons back to hell anywhere, anytime. This was also one of my favorite episodes for the the whole assault on the precinct . I love any situations where our heroes are outnumber and outgunned and they have to be smart and resourceful to make it through.

As someone watching Supernatural for the first time, this is one of my favourite episodes so far. This is the first time they've done an episode on this scale, one that feels "big". I like that Henriksen came back and got his moment to shine (even though, like Gordon, I could've used a few more episodes with him). I do NOT like Ruby. It seems like all she does is show up, criticise what everyone else does, then leaves.

Henricksen is arsh, but he is also charsimatic; I was so glad that he finally was on bord with the brothers, and really deflated when he and Nancy died. But a this point in the series, it is almost expected that when the Winchesters win on one side, a catastrophy happens on the other side.

great reaction to a great ep, and one of the best of the series for me.... from the capture by an old adversary, who finally got wise to the real "reality" and was poised to be a key ally with resources, to the desperate "castle defense", the humor that popped in at the best moments and didn't feel too much, to great victory that ended up being bittersweet as we get introduced to the new big bad.... Lilith, whose malice belies her "packaging"... and all turned out to be for naught...... loved it! and great to get my first taste of Amy Garcia, (Nancy, the brave virgin) who is on "Lucifer" nowadays.... great stuff

Isolated from anything that happens later...Ruby was absolutely in the right in this moment, exorcising the demons would simply send them back to Lilith and in the end all the people in the police station still died. The spell was the right move, in my opinion.

No, IMO, Dean is 100% right when he says, "It doesn't mean we throw away the rule book and stop acting like humans." Fighting and losing is one thing, committing atrocities just to win is a whole other thing. This was an absolute no win situation. I agree with Jess, I still think the boys made the right decision.

This episode is truly fascinating when you think about it It's a sort of "you can't save them all" situation, in which you have to sacrifice someone no matter what And what Ruby said is very true "turns out, your plan was the one with the body count". Key words "turns out". They couldn't possibly have known that this would have happened. It was outside of the scope of the situation they were in Which is where the whole war concept comes around. Because this here is the biggest problem they'd encountered, it is way bigger than either of them (s1) or their family (s2), and what they do has consequences for a significantly larger number of people. This is the first instance in which they get to see it at work Honestly, it's a bit of a stretch to say that if they had killed Nancy it would have changed anything in the first place. If I understand correctly, Bela sort of sold them out to both the police and the demons, it is bizarre to imagine that your common demons knew where the boys were but Lilith herself didn't. Vaporized or exorcised, these demons were just cannon fodder, and Lilith would have arrived at the station anyway I don't remember how they justified blaming Dean's plan for everyone's death in the episode, maybe there's more to it and it actually does make sense, in which case my bad ig But in any case, I will always blame Bela for the entire thing, and only her. She gave them up to the police to lock them in that station, and then she sold them out to demons so they would get besieged there. And then people pretend that those who don't like her hate to see a woman winning or some other nonsense like that. Like no, she's just garbage

Not a spoiler! Lilith actually has roots in religious mythology. She was created in the same way Adam was (from the earth), meant to be a companion to Adam. However, she refused to be subservient to Adam (specifically, she refused to "lay down" for him), so she was cast out of Eden. God then made Eve from Adam's rib instead. I think in Judaism, Lilith became a demonic creature. She's known for specific behavior that Supernatural loosely borrows from the story of Lillith.

I completely forgot Sam can do an exorcism so quickly with the incantation and they did a massive exorcism at the end. They still do exorcism, just I don't think on the same level as in this episode. I guess it was because of them learning at the end of this episode that you can't win while saving everyone, along with everything else they go through.

Depending on which one, she is a powerful demon that preys on pregnant women and children (she was blamed for miscarriages and childhood death), she brings chaos, she is a seductress, she makes babies be born sinister and deviant. Spoiler free: lilith wasn't just made up for the show, she has a genuine storyline in real life scripture. Myths tend to disagree with each other, so some stories are different. But the gyst is, Lilith was Adam's first wife(from Adam and eve's story). But she refused to be obedient to Adam, so she was cast into hell. As a demoness, she loves preying on children. She causes sickness and infant mortality. So that's why in the show, she's a child, to get closer to her victims.
