Likewise Sam is in a terrible situation his life has been manipulated and tarnished by demons since he was 6 months old. He's under pressure and probably afraid of himself and his abilities and that's not even including the latest seasons, it's impossible to say one brother does more for the other and who receives more consideration out of the two when their in am impossible situation and doing everything they can just to survive not just together but also to survive each other in this season.

Just putting it there, this is the ONLY time Sam mentions he's as shit-scared as Dean is. And he doesn't even say it outright, just "you think you're the only one white-knuckling it, here?"...

IKR! I've noticed that as much as Dean says that he does everything for Sam and Sam does nothing for him (well not that exactly, but there have been times he's implied that Sam doesn't care about Dean and that Dean is the only one who does what he believes will help his brother the most) Sam actually does a lot for Dean. I mean, there have been so many times that Sam hasn't grieved people properly because he's too worried about how Dean is feeling about it. I mean, when Bobby died we saw it quite clearly. When they were in the hospital waiting for him to go into surgery and the doctor came and said there wasn't much chance he'd wake up, Sam seemed all accepting of it and was telling Dean they had to realise it was possible that Bobby would die. He let Dean deal with how he was feeling and while Dean was around, he was all about having everything covered and all that, but the second Dean wasn't in the room with him anymore he looked like he was going to break down any second! And this was all while he'd still been getting those damn hallucinations! That's just one example. Like you said, this was the only time Sam mentions he's just as scared as, if not more than, Dean. He started out the one who wanted to talk about everything, who just wanted to get Dean to open up and thought that if he opened up he'd get Dean to as well. But then I think he realised that if Dean saw just how hard things were for him, he'd close off and be the one to pretend he's fine. But then he realised this and decided he wanted Dean to open up more, and so he stopped opening up as much, letting Dean be the one to do so. But in doing this, he let Dean forget that Sam is suffering these things too, that Dean isn't the only one struggling with these things... :(

@@Dazzlefae a lot of good points here. I also always thought Sam shut off more bc Dean always pushed him away. You get that kind of response enough times you stop trying to tell the other person anything gn it's easier to just say you're fine. Plus at the beginning Sam had been out of the toxic situation that is their family for awhile. Now he's back I it and had a lot of extremely traumatic experiences he's more messed up now too. And Dean whines about his trauma and says things like "you couldn't possibly understand.". Sam doesn't do that. He just mostly keeps it to himself and seems to believe there's people with it worse (i.e. people got it worse). Dwan said it in the last episode that Sam is stronger than him and I believe that's always been the truth.

@@Dazzlefae oh,and agreed Sam does care about Dean. That's a very manipulative thing for dean to say that Sam doesn't. Sam is much more quiet (most of the time) and he doesn't point put every little thing he does like Dean does.

I feel sorry for both of them no doubt both of them have it hard, Sam has so many issues demon related, and Dean has just been broken down by so much never-ending bad. The weight of the world is literally always on their shoulders he's got the guilt of the devil possibly winning the war and killing everyone if he refuses to be Michael's vessel. And then coping with Sam being Lucifer's supposed host and the pressure heaven is putting on his shoulders, to prevent that and fight him is enormous.

This is why Im a sammy fan. He cops most of the shit. this is why i wanted to slap Cas in the face that episode he called him a monster. Why doesnt he or dean or bobby shut up for a moment and take a walk in sam's over sized clown shoes for a day? See how they like getting the blame. Also I wish ppl would stop telling sam he started the end of the world. it was actual dean who started it in hell, and who thought icing lilith could be bad, i would have! Few, I really needed to get that out :D

Ikr! And actually Cas called Sam an 'abomination' and that I found funny... Thing is to the angels he is so that's all he really knew at that point in time... But I agree completely, Sam has a darkness in him since he was 6 months old... It's not his fault... But then in season 9/10 when Dean had the mark of cain he sort of understood, except he couldn't because technically the Mark wasn't a part of him, it was a curse which could be removed... However the demon blood in Sam couldn't be removed completely... None of them can understand how he feels. Especially as whenever Dean screws up, Sam is always telling him that it wasn't his fault, but then most of the time Sam screws up he's got everyone on his back about it and telling him tat it was his fault... So I completely agree with this... And yes I realise I replied to your comment 5 years after you posted it... :)

Putting into perspective both Sam and Dean's struggle against assuming their destined roles with demons and angels constantly weighing in on it all. With heaven and hell both wanting to go to war, their in an impossible situation and doing the best they can under the circumstances. So I don't think it's fair to say 'Oh Sam needs him'. Sam always needs him for some reason or another. Heaven also needs him. Castiel turns to him how many expectations can be placed on Dean before he cracks.

Sam asking his brother to be there for him emotionally here is reminiscent of Sam asking Dean to just let him in in S3... I love how Dean goes from being emotionally absent for 3 seasons in Sam’s eyes to being there for him in Swan Song, and as a result Sam’s comfort memories of times he ran away get swapped for his happy memories of Dean (which range from the time he actively CHOSE to be a hunter, instead of being forced into it, up until the time Dean sells his soul for him). I swear to God if Swan Song has been the final episode I would not be emotionally sound even all these years later.

I'm just happy that everything is over, I loved the end of the series, it was perfect, Sam and Dean had their happy endings, Dean always said that he wanted to die that way and for Sammy to have a normal life. But Sammy also lived sad for the loss of Sammy. But in the end they both met in heaven and that was their perfect and happy ending for both of them ❤️

@zimgir1098 I completely agree, and I wish they hadn't gotten rid of "big brother Dean" because he's pretty much been nonexistent on the show since S4 :( sigh...there's not really much of a reason for fans of sam to watch at all, it's not like they give a damn about his character. i miss the dean that was vunerable because he loved sam so much, and not the dean who is vunerable because he's always getting butthurt when sam so much as breathes incorrectly :|

Dean just pisses me off sooo much. He forgets that not only is Sam in this with him, but he has it worse!!! And Sam, he beats himself up about it inside everyday and. It. Isn't. Fair. Dean needs to man up and be there for Sam because God knows Sam is ALWAYS there for Dean. But it takes Sam being seriously injured or worse for Dean to care at all. :'( Poor Sammy, you need to know we love and support you :)

As always, when situation is becoming serious, Dean begins to whine and stressed out. My Sammy don't love me as i love him!!! And let the whole world go to hell. And Cass got drunk. God, the only real man there is Sam, this is without a doubt. He is the Lucifer's vessel, everything is becoming darker around him, but he is still keeping fight. That's why he doesn't see brother in heaven. Because for Dean Sam is his lovely toy. Dean is very selfish.

He keeps fighting because he hates the thought of becoming something he doesn't want to be, AKA Evil, demonic, Lucifer's Vessel. Obviously he says yes, but that was the only way they could stop him. Dean is Michael's Vessel, yeah he hated the idea of becoming his Vessel but then he just almost gave up and all that, but he felt he could because Michael is meant to be the good guy. Then Cas is an Angel, and most Angels are good. So Dean and Cas both felt they could give in, well Cas not so much as Dean at this point, but it was because at least they wouldn't be giving in to darkness. Sam however knew that if he gave in, it wouldn't be the same as Dean or Cas giving in because he's expected to be like Lucifer... So I understand why... :) It's sad really... :(

They are both amazing characters! They have put themselves through Hell, and they have put each other through Hell! You know something, Dean would sell his soul all over again for Sam, and Sam would jump right back into the Cage if it meant saving Dean. Yes, they have both made mistakes. But they're only human. Dean fans seem to forget everything bad that Dean has done and make excuses for him. They don't acknowledge that he has put Sam through a lot. They only see the good. Sam fans do often see the bad Sam has done, but they also make excuses for it. And they don't really acknowledge what Sam has put Dean through. A lot of fans seem to forget that they have *both* done bad, *both* made mistakes. But they always forgive each other. There are obviously some Dean fans that realise the bad things Dean has done, and don't just , make excuses for him. And there are Sam fans that don't just try making excuses for everything Sam has done. What I like to do is just realise what's happening in the scene, pick up on both sides of the story because most of the time, they both have good reasons for what they're doing.
