One of the things love about this show is how the characters feel so real because we get to spend so much time with them. I think that really shows in the way that Cas relates completely differently to Sam than he does to Dean. He has a very distinct relationship with each brother that's really fun to watch develop over the years.

Cass' fucking "Are you kidding me?" face when Dean asks if he can lift the anvil gets me every time. "Can I LIFT this? LMAO bro I could throw a car 50 feet one-handed."

I love this episode, and hunter Cass is everything! One of the best exchanges ever: -I was being bad cop. -You were being bad everything.

That was a great exchange, but I think my favorite is "I've almost cracked him...I'm not done with you." "...Dumbass."

There is a lot in this episode. Some good, some bad, and some gruesome. On the good part, I like Castiel's impersonation of Columbo (the detective played by Peter Falk) becoming a bad cop in the kitchen scene!! I found it hilarious.

Oh I love this episode. Such a fun concept and I loved seeing Cas trying to be a hunter and working with Sam and Dean in that way. Also the scene with the conversation Cas had with Dean was great.

This episode somehow manages to combine silly humour with quite a bit of tragedy, and even has a uniting theme for Sam, Cas amd Fred. It feels like it shouldn't work, but I think it does. I really love that Dean encouraged Cas to open up, and that Cas responded to that so well. And that we also got some nice interactions with Sam and Cas, it's a too under-utilized relationship for sure!

Combining Silly humor & dark tragedy is what Supernatural does best! Also one of the things that bugged me is that Castiel was never a full main character. I agree with you it's fun watching him and Dean bound and would be nice to see more development between him and Sam.

@@patrickmcguire7896 I'm honestly just baffled that they don't do more with Sam and Cas. Sam and Cas both have a strong association with Lucifer. Raphael suggests it was Lucifer who brought Cas back; Lucifer compared Cas' position to his in Abandon All Hope; and in The Man Who Would Be King in a conversation with Crowley, Cas says "you're asking me to become the next Lucifer". Obviously I don't need to explain Sam's association with Lucifer. But that's one thing I wish they'd have them talk about. Another thing is the fact that they have both made a risky decision (against Dean's wishes) because they thought it was the right thing to do (and no one really had a better plan), but their decisions ended up having big repercussions; starting the Apocalypse and letting out the Leviathans (can doing damage while carrying them inside). Using your free will to decide what you think is right, despite being told otherwise, and either deciding wrong (or at least your decision having undesired consequences) feels like something huge both for the characters, and also big thematically for the show, yet we don't get too really see them talk about that. It would be so, so easy to establish a closer bond between these two. And the only reason I can see why you wouldn't, is to avoid having to film more scenes with Jared and Misha, especially attempting to film more serious, emotional scenes. Which, given everything, is fair, but sad for the characters really.

I LOVED this episode! I loved the whacky and still gruesome plot. I loved seeing Cas as a hunter and hilariously failing at parts. But most of all I loved how Dean was there for Cas, asking him what was really bothering him, and trying to comfort his friend. Only downside is Cas leaving at the end of the episode.

Castiel tells Sam and Dean that he has decided to become a hunter like them; they investigate a series of murders that resemble cartoon deaths.

Wow. I love what you're wearing. You look stunning. You're positively GLOWING! Anyhow, this was an amusing, funny episode and also a good stand alone. In many ways, this reminded me of the Twilight Zone movie (1983), the remake of It's A Good Life where that boy had formidable psychokinetic powers to make real life work like it does in cartoons. They even visited cartoonland. The scene where that man steps off of the roof and falls later made men think of the episode of the Friday The 13th TV series The Poison Pen where this happens to a monk. In many ways, Supernatural often reminded my of the Friday the 13th series. Bobby often reminded me of Jack Marshak. Yes, that birthday cake was a blast - literally.

I'm so glad you mentioned the moment between Sam and Cas. I always want more moments between Sam and the side characters because it seems like Dean is the one who gets all of them. So I'm very happy we got this one. Good work Carol the blood-splatter expert!

Your completely right! Sam is friendly and get along with the side character but for some reason the writers think that's enough of a relationship and don't do anything to further it. So as a result Dean gets all the screen time and development with them and Sam barley gets any.

I agree so much about wanting an episode just with, or at least heavily focused on, Garth, Kevin and Linda!
@patrickmcguire7896
@patrickmcguire7896 Жыл бұрын
Agreed! This show has a great supporting cast but there are two downsides to it. One they are rarely in most episodes a season, and when they are they sadly aren't always the main focus. The second is all the supporting cast is rarely all together, like Bobby talked to Garth over the phone but they never physically were together, which really sucks cause they'd all have a killer dynamic and awesome banter!
@ancatdal

@@patrickmcguire7896 I think having characters talk to one another on the phone, or mentioning them in conversation, is a good way of making the world feel more lived in, and the characters more connected, without having to pay for an actor to make an appearance. But yes, there are many characters we never see meet, or barely see interact, and when we do, it's a shame they don't let them take more center stage. Not just because I want to see them, but also because I think it would serve Sam and Dean's characters, by giving us little breaks from them. There's a fatigue with characters you might otherwise like, when they have to carry too much story for too long periods of time, alone; they get repetitive, their actions feel forced because they have to serve plot before character, and they aren't allowed to change/are "reset". Having more side characters allows for new interactions, characters that can believably carry this specific plot, and characters allowed lasting change as a result of the story. And giving the main characters more of a break can allow much better pacing of their drama, with less repeated arguments that go nowhere, making the ones we get feel more important.

He was also in the Stargate SG-1 episode Scorched Earth, with….drumroll….Amanda Tapping. 🤪 Vancouver has a more limited acting pool. Always fun to see a guest actor and try and remember who they were in Smallville, X-Files, Stargate, Fringe, Dark Angel, Battlestar Galactica, The Dead Zone, Eureka, Lucifer, the whole Arrowverse, a previous episode of the show itself….😂

I said it before and I'll say it again Sam's story would've been a whole lot better if we saw him having a breakdown over "losing" Dean. He just seems to well put together through out these flashbacks. And it would strengthen Sam & Amelia's relationship, if they showed Amelia helping Sam through the grief and trauma.

Doesn't help since adding her father in this episode since the whole "we have no one" connection makes less sense. And her dad is about as charming as they made her...awful since Sam has such a huge heart but that relationship felt so sloppy.

Captain B. J. Hunnicutt of the 4077th has Toontown powers which are being weaponized to carry out cartoonish schemes and crimes. ...I don’t think I can improve on that. That’s one of the looniest plots of Supernatural that I have ever seen.

You are definitely right about the Sam and Cas moments, it was sweet but we rarely ever get anything between the two! It's one of the weakest relationships in the series. The only other moment they've had so far was when Sam forgave Cas for breaking his walls, but that felt rushed, and I feel like it only happened cause the season was about to end and they wanted to wrap up that plot point.
