Cas to Dean in 4x01: "You don't think you deserve to be saved?" How the turns have tabled.

True, but with a very important difference imo: Dean's assessment of himself was way too harsh, he tends to think he doesn't matter when he's actually so much better than he thinks he is. Cas, however, was wallowing in self-pity and was absolutely forgiven too soon, without proper atonement (and staying behing in purgatory not realizing what that would do to Dean was yet another poor judgement on his part, self-flagelation isn't the same as atonement). I don't know, I do like Cas, but I think his sad puppy face buys him too much goodwill.

THE THICK PLOTTENS. This episode always breaks my heart. The look on Dean's face when Cas lets go of his hand. The sadness and betrayal when he realizes Cas CHOSE to stay behind. The sadness on Cas's when he realizes Dean has been blaming himself this entire time for failing. The callbacks to 4x01 with Cas's wings and "I didn't want to be saved" vs. "you don't think you deserve to be saved." It's SO MUCH I am in ANGUISH.

I love this episode. It's so good. Getting Cas back, dealing with what really happened at the portal and learning more about both of their thoughts and feelings of guilt. Dean rather taking on guilt through making himself think he failed Cas than living with the thought of Cas not wanting to come back with him is very telling and very Dean with his abandonmemt issues and selfloathing. Also Mrs Tran really is amazing. Hiring a witch of of craigslist XD Ps: it's always so funny when you ask to learn more about a story and then get it immediately XD

One of the things I love about the last conversation with Dean and Cas is how Cas' words aren't "platitudes" from an outsider to the situation; "it's not your fault" "don't be so hard on yourself" "no one could have done better", all those things that when you're really blaming yourself sound so hollow and almost outright disgusting to you. Cas just sweeps all conversation about fault aside and talks agency instead, and lets Dean know plainly that it was 100% outside of his control, like that or not. That's a different kind of discomforting knowledge, but it effectively kills the idea of blame. And it simultaneously shows us that despite Cas' actions having had consequences that he deeply regrets, he will still do what he believes he must, despite what others might think. They gave that angel the rope of freedom, and damn it if he won't hang himself with it over and over again.

This was a great episode. Mrs Tran would make a badass hunter with the proper training. It's always wonderful to watch these boys grow emotionaly. Glad surgery went well and you're doing okay. Welcome back!

Aside from Cas return what I love about this episode is the brothers pausing their stupid feud. Dean isn't being hostile now and acting civil around Sam, even opening up to him. Sam isn't brooding and is concern for his brother. Honestly this feud feels to dragged out and is making both brother unlikable, so it was nice to take a break from it.

You loving Crowley simply being a villain is understandable given how lack luster the main villains have been these past two seasons. Raphael, Eve, Dick Roman they all lacked presence and development. So seeing Crowly or any antagonist be more hands on is welcomed sight and change.

Aside from some really great scenes with Dean and Cas, I also love how this episode also delivers on Crowley being a great villain, and giving us Linda being an absolute no nonsense badass! And while the episode answers some mysteries, it raises more; like who is this Naomi?

The things I want to say but can't because of spoilers. Anyway this episode is so interesting to watch upon rewatch knowing how things go adds a lot of layers to an already complex episode. Also this is one of the times where Ackles deserves a damn Emmy
