Great storytelling, filming and location - thanks guys. It’s not (so called) mythical, but I saw a black cat (leopard type of size) in rural England one night. We were driving around the lanes and it appeared in the road. We stopped, having both seen it and then the cat jumped through a hedge and into a field. There are quite a few sightings of big cats in the countryside in the UK, but you never expect to see one so close.

Love listening to this stories. Quit interesting, the familiar sound of some. But maybe because I'm reading icelandic saga stories...

That was great Valur.. I do believe that in all the tales and folklore there is always a grain of truth in all of them and that is why the tales survive.

Had a monster confrontation in Glasgow in 1983. My friend and I were walking past a bombed out building from WW2 and a huge black dog-like creature charged up from the deep pit, banged against the iron barrier, snarling and growling and we held on to our takeout fish and chips and RAN!! Found out later that it was some kind of Scottish werewolf creature, at least according to legend. Scared us to death … almost! Only other monsters I’ve dealt with were/are my two kids, lol.

These things are always demonic - hauntings, ghosts, aliens, BF and the likes are demons who can appear in any form in order to distract humans from the living GOD. Born again Christians have the authority to rebuke them in the name of our Lord and Savior JESUS CHRIST! How to become born again? Thank JESUS for paying for your sins on the cross and HIS resurrection on the 3rd day!!! It must come from the bottom of your heart and don't forget, JESUS is GOD, see John 1! Don't give demons a foothold and don't contact them, the Bible strictly forbids occultism and spiritism. Roman catholic exorcism only make things worse (the Vatican is the whore of Babylon from Revelation 17 and 18, they have nothing to do with biblical Christianity!) Please do your own research on occult practices and items that attract demons and destroy them.

Wow, was this in the day or at night? There is some things I could tell you about GlasGlow and other old areas of the UK. A lot of unknown things by the public, and a LOT of old history.

@@johnnylego807 it was just after the pub closed. My friend and I were walking home to his flat and something very large black and snarling ran at us, rattling the wrought iron fence. In daylight it was almost a perfect vertical climb. Supernatural Glaswegian! 🇨🇦🇨🇦

A very interesting story. I wonder who saw them first, the fishermen? By telling the story and exaggerating a monster is quickly created But who knows very deep in the ocean live strange and creepy fish

The legend of the skoffín (spelling?) being hatched from a cockerel's egg and being able to kill you with a glance sounds very much like the cockatrice in Medieval English legends (sometimes called a basilisk).

Great episode! So, the question is - did those long, dark winter nights before the invention of Netflix and electric lighting mean that 's ancestors spent all their time dreaming up ever more horrible monsters to scare one another witless? Or is that Icelanders now spend all their time with Netflix and electric lighting and don't see all those horrible monsters who are still lurking outside in the shadows? Can't say I've ever met an Icelandic monster, but I did meet a very spooky, VERY big black dog in Greece who guided me home along a dark and winding path who stayed between me and lots of aggressive dogs guarding properties. An hour or so later, when I got to a lit area right next to where I was staying, I looked around - there was no dog...

Very beautiful location you treated us to today Valur, we don’t have many mythical creatures that could be considered monsters, I think it’s very special that these stories have been preserved and handed down over the generations. Other than big foot and the abominable snowman, most of what we get exposed to in English are the tales of Hans Christian Andersen. Your voice is so relaxing it put me to sleep just as the sun decided to come out on a cold day, it made me feel very hoogely (sp?), like being around a campfire listening to stories like in the old day before we had movies to watch. I know that in Norway everyone in a village would take turns gathering together to knit around the fire each night while young children would read to them to help pass the time, I know it was a hard life but I envy how they could entertain themselves with storytelling that must have felt very thrilling, the way we tell ghost stories around campfires today.

Reminds me of Loren Coleman's Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine (would like to see models of some of the monsters from this museum as collections in the International Cryptozoology Museum).

I have a hairy monster who stares at me. It's my Yorkie Terrier. He looks a bit like a fox crossed with a cat. ! I never know what hes thinking. Quite disconcerting sometimes. 😳

The hair on the back of the neck of a horse is called a mane. (same sound as "main") A horse's tail is not called a mane. Only the hair on their necks. So it sounds like it was a kelpie, the water horse of Scotland and Ireland. And these stories really scared me! The hair on the back of MY neck is standing up and I have goosebumps!
